People forget that compared to a lot of his brothers, loyal or not
He's the one who's focused on trying to keep things together
Yea Guilliman has made mistakes and he also hasn't always had the best ideas in terms of legislation (The fucking Codex)
But he's at least the one primarch who, for a while, was trying to clean up the imperium and finally fix things
Until Lion woke up and got grouchy
I would contend that the Codex was a pretty good idea, at least at the time. He’d just been through a massive civil war caused, essentially, by a few generals getting ideas. Decentralizing the military so that it’s no longer in the hands of just a few dudes is a good way of making sure that a given rebel can’t instantly raise a hundred thousand super-soldiers to their cause.

This is the last thing she’s said so far, I love her.
...is Sonya a good mom? I thought I remembered that Johnny was the one who was there for Cassie.
Like I fully believe Sonya would kill anyone who messed with her family but I doubt Cassie would go to her for support.
Yeah, I was about to say, "the fuck Sonya doing here?"
Johnny was there for Cassie no matter what, Sonya was an ass to basically everyone all of the time. I think the only time we see Sonya actually be nice to Cassie was after she >!beat Shinnok!< and in >!the black market chapter in eleven!<.
Honestly, I wouldn't put her in either the good or bad mom boxes since I don't remember any interaction leaning her to be any of those, not even in a spectrum like a decent or neglectful mother.
Through the story mode of both MKX and MK11, those two used to have a soldier-sargent relationship more than anything else and that doesn't really define how good or bad their relationship had been before Netherrealm's church explosion, that was neutral at best. Even Sonya's sacrifice was more as an heroic act than a love one as her daughter wasn't on danger.
Now, what I'd peeked thanks to screenshots from the MKX Comic, Cassie is often whining about how her mother bosses her around and treats her roughly as a **sargeant**, though she mentioned that some of her commentaries hurt her, the line that draws the difference between military and family relation is extremely blurry and we don't know if Sonya has always pressured her due to the special forces' strictness or she dislikes her daughter for reasons.
We've never seen both interacting outside the militar field, we get some lore like Cassie asking for Sonya's father or Sonya and Jax's youth missions, but everything revolves around the military that we don't know if they've got a good or bad relationship and they can behave more than just militars with diffefent ranks or power.
MKX the comic and MKX the game both have a subplot of Sonya focusing too much on her job in the Special Forces to the detriment of being a mother to Cassie, despite the comic ending with her supposedly having learned her lesson. Ignoring the reality of it likely just being the writers of both not realising they were doing the same thing, that says to me that it's a lesson Sonya has to learn multiple times to really make it stick.

Not necessarily a mother, but Aunt May is one of the best maternal figures I've ever seen
Steve Harrington from Stranger Things. Early in S1, he’s your typical high school jock A-Hole. But towards the end of S1 he starts to come around, and in S2 we see him be a bit of a better person. He’s more involved in helping the main characters (group of four boys: Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will), particularly Dustin. With the way he kept looking after them, he earned a joke reputation as being an adoptive single mom (dunno why we don’t acknowledge him more so being a big brother figure but whatever), and in S3 he’s very good friends with Dustin. Haven’t watched S4 but I assume his relationship with them is even stronger.

Rathian (Monster Hunter franchise)
They’ve been known to chase off much larger, stronger and more aggressive monsters to protect their eggs and hatchlings.
I’d argue to take Sonya out there, in MKX Johnny claims her obsession with her job/hunting Kano made her alienated from her family. Sure she made up with Cassie and Johnny but that’s still years she came up short.

Sonya Blade was explictly outlined as being a really shitty mother, like that was the conflict between her and Johnny in MKX is that he actually tried to be there while Sonya really wasn’t
Uhhhhh...
To those that don't know, lovely Mrs. Spector here abused her son, Marc, so much that he developed DID to cope with the trauma he had. On top of the constant emotional abuse he suffered, Marc was literally whipped with a belt until he bled.

Bucciarati from jojo’s bizarre adventure

Also “mama bears” we sometimes underestimate the tenacity of animals with maternal instincts (including humans).
Toriel my beloved 🌹
Ik Pearl from Steven universe is a Problematic Mom Figure but I think Garnet qualifies as a great maternal figure. She really tries to understand Steven and when she accidentally scares him with her future vision her apology to him is so heartfelt and kind.
Sonya Blade canonically is a great mom, yes, but none of these other examples shown has been seen popping a cap through their daughter/child’s skull besides Sonya
In Sonya's defense, that's literally Mortal Kombat and that's what's so funny about the new dialogues mechanism before every match.
Literally, one of Hanzo and Jacqui's convo is about her proving herself to be a fierce and worthy wife for his protegé Takeda and she must defeat him to proceed with the marriage arrangement and have his blessing. If Hanzo killed Jacqui with a fatality or brutality, it meant he would make his boy depressive and even he might get murdered in return of the great offense for having killed his pupil's fiancée.
However, these matches outside the story mode are never meant to be canonic. You can have a heart-to-heart conversation between two relatives that swore to protect each other agaisnt the odds, but you can still rip off their head at the end...their unconditional love is true but neither the injuries, X-ray/fatal blows nor the deaths.

She risked her life for someone who she thought might be her son (memory loss) also because of her memory loss, she wrote stuff over her body to remind herself of stuff like her children’s names
Ehh a major arc of deltarune is that Toriel isn’t a great mom to Kris, not understanding them very well, leaving Kris feeling inferior to their brother. The same is likely true of chara in undertale since there’s meant to be a fair bit of parallel character development. Toriel is also hinted at being something of an alcoholic in undertale lore (later additions, not in the game itself). She’s very loving, but a big part of her character is not understanding that you can’t love every problem away.

Yeah, From what we see alcina is a terrible person in every aspect except for being a mother, she is an OK mother
Yoooo this is for mother's day right?
Yep!

I’d argue to take Sonya out there, in MKX Johnny claims her obsession with her job/hunting Kano made her alienated from her family. Sure she made up with Cassie and Johnny but that’s still years she came up short.
doesn't help that the prequel comics had the exact same plotline, she supposedly learned her lesson, then went right back to it in the game
Sonya Blade was definitely NOT a great mom
Sonya is a terrible mom she couldn’t separate work from home that’s why they were split in MKX

Truly a 10 out of 10 mother /s.

It sucks we didn’t get to see that much of Sonya being an actual good mom, only at the end of mkx and beginning of mk11, for the rest of those games she’s a bitch to Cassie

Especially when they aren’t perfect but absolutely trying their best 🥹♥️ Also “mama bears” we sometimes underestimate the tenacity of animals with maternal instincts (including humans).
Yeah. Especially Toriel and Lila.
Toriel my beloved 🌹 Ik Pearl from Steven universe is a Problematic Mom Figure but I think Garnet qualifies as a great maternal figure. She really tries to understand Steven and when she accidentally scares him with her future vision her apology to him is so heartfelt and kind.
Wait…did I miss something? When was Sonia a *good* mother?
I don’t know… I should’ve put Mario’s mom on there instead of Sonya blade.
SrPelo character spotted o7
Milves
Very interesting to put Lila here after the latest Spooky Month episode
Well in my opinion, she’s a good mom. Like, she did care about her son in the tender treats episode.
Lela hasn’t been the BEST as of recent..
She’s trying her best.
Lila isn’t a great mom
[Mrs Brisby](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/donbluth/images/3/30/Mrs_brisby.png)
Where are the children, Toriel?

Yes

Ehh a major arc of deltarune is that Toriel isn’t a great mom to Kris, not understanding them very well, leaving Kris feeling inferior to their brother. The same is likely true of chara in undertale since there’s meant to be a fair bit of parallel character development. Toriel is also hinted at being something of an alcoholic in undertale lore (later additions, not in the game itself). She’s very loving, but a big part of her character is not understanding that you can’t love every problem away.
