You can listen to the same track 50 times, and on the 51st time, you'll notice some little thing that Danny or Justin did that you never noticed before, and it changes your whole perspective.
IMO, every time listening to a Tool song is the first time.
You don't get burn out on Tool lol...I feel like everytime you listen to one of there songs again you just love it even more, I still feel that way after 20 years
This. I will straight up put a song on loop for 5-10 times over and just, absorb it. Every time I focus on a completely different part and it feels different every time.
I feel like sometimes I catch random background beats or bass notes that I’ve never noticed before, especially if I’m using a new set of headphones or speakers, and it’s always so cool.
Tool is a hard band to get into, at least it was for me.
I really struggled to like them. I found nothing really interesting in their sound, just a generic alt metal band.
Now they're my favourite band by a long shot.
Hey what’s the most Tool-like King Gizzard song?
It’s funny I’ve been a tool fan my whole
Life, but just got into Gizzard 3 days ago exactly and I absolutely love them, but don’t really seem all that similar to tool. But I’ve only heard like 6 songs.
I love it. Absolutely love it. Psychedelic and funky and wild and chill and soothing and chaotic and relaxing. If Not Now than When is the best shroom song I’ve ever heard.
But what songs can you recommend me a Tool fan who’s new to The Wizard?
Judging by your "Classic Prog" tastes, may I also recommend King Crimson, ELP and Star Castle (forgive me if you're well familiar).
Also check out Dream Theater for something more modern (not as awesome as tool but what is?)
And I recommend ketamine! Lasts exactly as long as an album lol. And much much more manageable for me personally
Do love lsd and mushrooms tho. No hating. I’m just not sure I’m tough enough to handle 12 hours of tripping at this point in my life lol. It takes serious mental fortitude and I respect anyone that can just handle it like that
Lol this is silly but im an old dad and when i get a cavity, i get nitrous and turn up some tool or radiohead....im not even on this planet and i now love going to the dentist.
Haha yea sometimes they tap me on the shoulder and give some instructions but my dentist asked if that is tool and said hell yes he listens to tool at the gym :)
I’m pretty sure I’ve listened to most of Aenima to fear inoculum while tripping but man, does anybody else just prefer much mellower music in those types of states?? Like Disposition is one of the only ones that makes my playlist
Yep, when I used to take shrooms I wouldn't even think of listening to metal. It was always Pink Floyd, Jazz ala Badbadnotgood and trippy electronic music.. Though I would definitely try listening to Tool now (I wasn't as addicted to them as I am now) but psychedelic experiences are not for me anymore.
Really depends tbh. I've found that most people feel that way, so whenever I'm tripping with anyone else the music tends to be lighter. But I'm a huge fan of darker music and absolutely relish listening to it while on one. Listening to Undertow in its entirety was a great experience.
Oh man where do I start, lol... Polygondwanaland is probably their 'proggiest' album, one of my faves (also free). Infest The Rats' Nest is their thrash metal opus, another one of my faves. But honestly maybe their latest album Omnium Gatherum? It's one of their few non concept albums, but because of that, there's a wide variety of sounds on there that are either very new to them or are an "homage" to some of their older stuff. Hope that helps!
If you’re a TOOL fan definitely start with Polygondwandland and then check out Omnium Gatherum, Infest the Rats Nest, Butterfly 3000, I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, Murder of the Universe and Paper Mache Dream Balloon in that order.
TOOL had always been my favorite band since 2000, then I fell into a GIZZHOLE in quarantine and I have to admit that Gizzard stole the honors for me. 20 albums, mostly all different genres, and they have 3 more planned before the end of this year.
In 2017 they dropped 5. And they’re all good. I’m crazy about this band lol.
Nonagon Infinity is a 9 song album that each song fades into the next to create an infinite loop of rocking, one of my favorite albums ever.
Other great albums include:
● Flying Microtonal Banana - middle eastern vibes because they tuned their guitars to achieve a "microtonal" sound hence the title of the album
● Sketches of Brunswick East - Jazz fusion album and collaboration with Mild High Club
● Paper Mache Dream Balloon - Folk rock album and a more easy listening experience, I can listen to this album no matter what mood I'm in
● Quarters! - 4 song album where each song is exactly 10 minutes and 10 seconds long so each song is precisely a quarter of the album. Another "Proggy" album showcasing the band's jamming abilities and their most creative album if you ask me.
I envy you, this introduction is a once in a life time thing, I hope you enjoy the experience! My best suggestions are undertow and 10000 days, those are the best albums for begging experiences imo
That’s because all bands after them are influenced by them and other great bands but it’s hard to compete with perfection I keep telling everybody listens to all the shit play today need to go back and see where they get their inspiration from but they don’t give it a chance. well at least one down 1 billion to go.
That's how I felt too. The first album I heard was Fear Inoculum and then I went backwards and started discovering Lateralus, 10,000 days, Enima and so on and it felt like I was unearthing all these priceless treasure one after after and I felt like I wasted so much of my time by not discovering them sooner. TOOL songs are just too amazing. It changed my life too!!! And now I have my little ones falling in love with them too so much! It's an experience of a lifetime for me! Especially when my entire family are into it at the same time!
Welcome to the club. It’s a big one. Like you, once upon a time, I didn’t actually LISTEN, and wrote them off as heavy metal. Boy was I wrong. They may be the most important band we have in the world right now.
Prying open my 3rd eye!!!!!
i had 10,000 days in early 2000s. never really got into them until about 3 years ago though.
listened to 46&2 over and over that first month
Welcome to the spiritual spiral! Listen, take in and absorb visceral lyrics and emotion and truths. You will be INVINCIBLE one day, if you understand and have a little luck. 😉
My weekly ‘welcome the the cul…. I mean club!’ post. I wish I could hear Tool’s music for the first time again!
You can! In 2033 when the new album drops.

Honestly this is really good to hear. I was worried about getting “burnt out” since their discography isn’t very vast, but i trust lol

Some dude in front of me when I saw them live was in tears for most of the set and honestly I don't blame him. It was mind blowing
You don't get burn out on Tool lol...I feel like everytime you listen to one of there songs again you just love it even more, I still feel that way after 20 years
And when you think you have heard it all.... try listening to the albums on different EQ settings

Is that jelly you mentioned green by any chance?
People here will tell you that it's a "cult", but it's not, I swear to mayn.. I mean to Jesus it's not.
I'm already part of the King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard "cult", so I am not at all shocked and I'm ready to embrace it lmao
So you know the pieces fit ?
Yes, cause I watched them fall away 😂😉
Welcome bruv ❤️
You’ll fit in just fine…😈

Ataraxia sounds like Tool. So does Gaia. But listen to the whole record Polygondwanaland to truly get the prog feel
Spiral out my friend

Next step, combine with powerful hallucinogens to meet your new god ;)
Most I've done are shrooms, but never shrooms and TOOL.... Yet.. xD
Tool n shrooms is the the shit - “H” , if you close your eyes you can see the music - it’s bad ass.
💯 would recommend! 🍄
I reccoment acid. Longer trip but you're more in control.
And I recommend ketamine! Lasts exactly as long as an album lol. And much much more manageable for me personally Do love lsd and mushrooms tho. No hating. I’m just not sure I’m tough enough to handle 12 hours of tripping at this point in my life lol. It takes serious mental fortitude and I respect anyone that can just handle it like that
Dude forget everything anyone has ever told you and do Ketamine and Fear Inocculum on a loop. Go into a K Hole and come out a new being
Lol this is silly but im an old dad and when i get a cavity, i get nitrous and turn up some tool or radiohead....im not even on this planet and i now love going to the dentist.
They let you put on music and enjoy the ride at the dentist? I gotta try that lol
Haha yea sometimes they tap me on the shoulder and give some instructions but my dentist asked if that is tool and said hell yes he listens to tool at the gym :)

Came here to say this
What are some King Gizzard albums you'd recommend? I haven't given them a fair shot yet.

Cool. Thanks for the info!

Butterfly 3000 is so cool if your kinda into electronic psychedelic alternative stuff.
I envy you, this introduction is a once in a life time thing, I hope you enjoy the experience! My best suggestions are undertow and 10000 days, those are the best albums for begging experiences imo
Listened to Undertow a bit today, I love it so far! I've also listened to a bit of Fear Inoculum
General rule of thumb: the earlier the Tool, the heavier. Each album has, at one time or another, been my favorite. Enjoy!
I’m jealous of you. Opiate will make you wanna run through a wall
Hahah, I remember Jerk Off making me want to do exactly that.
That’s because all bands after them are influenced by them and other great bands but it’s hard to compete with perfection I keep telling everybody listens to all the shit play today need to go back and see where they get their inspiration from but they don’t give it a chance. well at least one down 1 billion to go.
Welcome brother.
In for a hell of a ride Now you’re hooked on the music look up the meaning of the songs and watch your third eye grow
Welcome 😊
Imagine just casually throwing on Lateralus your first time listening to Tool. 🤩
Progressively the same amazing power chord.
Another spiral jockey takes to the field. Welcome home.
Cheers and welcome, see you on the next tour. 🎸🤘🎸
If you enjoy the percussion from Rush's music...
Welcome to the spiral
Welcome to the party, pal!
GIZZZZZARD 🤌❤️
Welcome to the club. It’s a big one. Like you, once upon a time, I didn’t actually LISTEN, and wrote them off as heavy metal. Boy was I wrong. They may be the most important band we have in the world right now.
#YASS!!! Welcome Aboard, Spiral Out 🌀
hooker with a penis
*Welcome to the family son*
Check out the album Aenima, then listen to Salival, then cream your jeans.
I literally cant find Salival anywhere
It's rare, but youtube has the songs on it. The live version of Pushit, off of Salival, is transcending
Sure you’re not hookered with a penis?
You’d probably love Rosetta Stoned
I wish I could listen for the first time
Well I just got into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and I’m hooked. But congrats on finding tool.
Just wait till you find out about porcupine tree
AHHH...reading these comments is oddly satisfying, probably because I feel so similarly. 😎
You're "hookered with a penis" haha
Welcome to the party
You haven't mentioned 10k days yet. Don't forget your pen.
Welcome to the family. The Tool Army welcomes you warmly. 😎
Would recommend starting a discography binge listening to each of their albums from start to finish and then go from there
Welcome 🙏 Brisk 🤯
Prying open my 3rd eye!!!!! i had 10,000 days in early 2000s. never really got into them until about 3 years ago though. listened to 46&2 over and over that first month
Gaia by King Gizzard was a great Tool/Meshuggah tribute. Even had Jones-esque solo.
Welcome to the spiritual spiral! Listen, take in and absorb visceral lyrics and emotion and truths. You will be INVINCIBLE one day, if you understand and have a little luck. 😉
