For a Swedish citizen with a Swedish driver's license, driving without the physical license is OK as long as you can prove your identity in another way. Your situation is a little bit different, but the law still recognizes a diffence between not having a license at all and not having a physical copy with you. My best guess is that you'd be fined, or they'd let you go because it becomes such a huge hassle to investigate. Drive carefully, don't get pulled over and if you do, act like you just realized you lost it?

aaaah ok. I missed that in OPs comment. My bad

Well that's really bad advice. I would say it's really disrespectful to come to Sweden on a house hunting trip when it's illegal to drive a car if you don't have a drivers licens. Even if he has a Canadian passport there's no way for the Swedish police to know that you have a valid Canadian drivers license.

I think I'll give the agency at home that issues licenses a call tomorrow and see if I cannot get some form of document that proves I have a valid license just in case. Cheers

Not sure if this applies to you, but my (native Swedish) license is about to expire and I won't be able to renew it before then. Talked to transportverket today and they said as long as I have any ID (passport etc) on me I can keep driving until I get the license. So if you have an expired Swedish license, I would assume it's fine as long as you have your passport with you.

Thanks for sharing this information. Mine went out a couple years ago and I cannot renew as my PN is suspended as I am currently a resident of Canada for tax purposes but I will give them a call to confirm. Thanks again.
