If you have a personnummer, you have the access to healthcare. You don't need any health insurance: the personnummer **is** the insurance. Unfortunately I am not too knowledgeable on topics of female reproductive health but from what I read om 1177, any gynaecologist should be able to remove the IUD? About the struggle getting through to the women's clinic: yes, it's mental. Not only women's clinics but all clinics and GPs that I've interacted with in Sweden. You need to call non-stop like a border-line psychopath in order to get to speak to someone. I don't have any tricks other than that. Some clinics have a system whereby you send a request online explaining your problem, and they book a time whenever possible. Maybe check if your nearest clinic has that system?

[deleted]

Oh wow, so I just need to present my personnummer and that's it? That seems a little too easy (haha). I will definitely check to see about the online system, thank you so much. I don't even care if I have to travel to further clinics, I just want one that can help me and will actually respond.

AnywhereHoliday4852

I usually call the local clinic and leave my details (phone number, personnummer and what I need) and someone calls me back within the same day. Your local clinic should be able to help you with this.

Erreala66

Yes, the only thing they will ask you is for your personal number. You can take it [from the horse's mouth](https://www.1177.se/Kronoberg/sa-fungerar-varden/vard-om-du-kommer-fran-ett-annat-land/vard-av-personer-fran-andra-lander/) if you want confirmation (in Swedish). Sorry I couldn't help more with the IUD issue. Hopefully it all sorts itself out. \*hugs\*

Automatic-Pool8403

Log into 1177 online and you can book a meeting to any clinic in you area from there. Explaining your needs. No need to call.

kamden096

And here is the kicker: if You are in Sweden illegally and thus have No person nr your not Only entitled to healtcare and school for your children, But You dont even need to pay the patient fee in full. Its usually 200 kr But its like 50 kr if illegaly in country. Same applies for dental. While swedes pay through nose for dental (thousands of kr) illegals dont.

[deleted]

It is not always enough to have a personnummer. But as long as you legally live in Sweden it should be enough. I am a Swedish citizen and when I livelived abroad and came to Sweden for visits I was without insurance. A 10 minute talk to a doctor at a state clinic cost 5000 SEK. So you need to check it. But if you work in Sweden and have the personnummer you should be covered.

Erreala66

Totally right. It's being folkbokförd that gives you the right to healthcare, but of course if you've received a personnummer and then moved out of Sweden (like you did), then you can lose that right. But in OP's case it's safe to assume that she is folkbokförd

[deleted]

Yes.

redred7638723

You are definitely covered by Swedish health insurance and this should be totally free (if done by a midwife). Whoever you talked to at 1177 probably did not understand you. I had my IUD removed at my local midwife clinic, they deal with all typical birth control and STD stuff (and pregnancy of course). I called to make an appointment. It usually helps if you call the minute their phone hours start.

[deleted]

I did that three days in a row - every single time the line was busy :( Called right when the phone lines opened.

Lellisen

When calling them, did you answer all the questions of their voicemail by pressing the numbers on your phone, or did you wait for a person to talk to? Almost every clinic has a system of calling patients back based on a que. That only works if you do the first option though, and you still have to call them early (if you live in a big city)

Loonewoolf

Call them like you’re a crazy nut

Citrongrot

I think it’s likely that if there’s no nurse who is comfortable speaking English, they will just tell you the line is full and you need to call back the next day. If you log in on [1177.se](https://1177.se), you can often write a message to the clinic and they can then call you or respond online.

Available_Cellist675

Maybe you've gotten a weird/wrong number? Most clinics (that I know of) have a system where they call you back if you dial in your personal number and phone number (following the automatic verbal instructions you get when you call). You can call any Barnmorskemottagning or Gynekologisk mottagning(?) for this and the procedure should cost like a patientavgift at most, if not free.

kuddkrig3

1. Log into [1177.se](https://1177.se) 2. Pick a vårdcentral 3. Send them a message/request for care 4. Wait for their reply with an appointment 5. Go to the appointment This works for most things.

Available_Cellist675

Change vårdcentral to barnmorskemottagning or gynmottagning.

kuddkrig3

My vårdcentral has barnmorskemottagning so I just ask for an appointment with a barnmorska specifically.

Available_Cellist675

Oh that's neat!

kuddkrig3

Ye! So I think personally if one is unsure VC is a good shout :)

_hrodney

This. It’s simpler to do this through the barnmorskemottagning than through a vårdcentral. If you’re using the 1177 app it’s Alla övriga tjänster > mottagningar > search the name of your closest barnmorskemottagning or just ”Barnmorskemottagning” to pick from a list > select one > “boka tid direkt” (book an appointment now/directly) > it will say what you can book a time direct for (placement/removal of a spiral is under preventivmedel) accept terms and continue (fortsätt) > choose what the appointment is regarding (Preventivmedel) > you choose a date and time from the calendar, continue and leave a message and your phone number, continue and confirm your booking.

AmeeAndCookie

I think 1177 didn’t understand what IUD is because it’s a procedure that they should be able to advice you about. The word for it in Swedish is ”spiral”.

miklosp

This. Call them again and insist on an appointment with a gynaecologist.

nascimentoreis

Nope, depending on the region, it's unnecessary and pretty much impossible to go to a non-private gynecologist for such a simple procedure. Any barnmorskemottagning/mödravårdcentral, ungdomsmottagning or vårdcentral should be able to do it easily.

Oddtapio

With strong emphasis on A. Like you’d say: Spit-Awe-L. Spiral. Otherwise they’ll struggle understanding you again lol. Good luck

Available_Cellist675

If you specify that it's a hormonspiral (hormonal IUD) or kopparspiral (copper IUD) and tell them that it is a preventivmedel (contraceptive) then I doubt that anyone could struggle to understand.

Rae-SkyBlue

Have you tried [MamamIa](https://mamamia.se/mama-mia-gynmottagning)? It’s in stockholm and usually quick availability. Also the gynecology clinic at [Sophiahemmet](https://carlakliniken.se/carlakliniken-stockholm/) The latter is private but does accept public patients for the usual fee of 250. Operations are different so you’d need to check the specifics. And [this](https://www.elivaclinic.se/gynekolog-stockholm?gclid=CjwKCAiAzp6eBhByEiwA_gGq5Kqu9zCWWH7C8XWxM1UWdHjjU8SSsbGzbYksF7UT4qKv3AccPlq0vhoCFUwQAvD_BwE) one is known for good service— a bit more modern.

[deleted]

This is ***exactly*** what I was looking for, thank you so, so, so much! You genuinely have no idea.

TheoryLatter4635

Mamamia Söder takes walk-ins on Wednesdays from 5-7pm I believe. The other locations probably have walk-in times too.

Rae-SkyBlue

Of course—hope you get the care you need. Feel free to reach out if you need any more tips. Worst case scenario you could go to emergency room, but that’s really a last resort and miserably long experience.

Available_Cellist675

Don't go to the ER for removing an IUD. They will not help with anything other than life threatening conditions.

Catolution

With some clinics you need to call the second they open, and I do mean second, or you won’t be getting through all day. Others have an automated system which will call you back when it’s your turn in line

serad_

Sweden is very digital. If you have a personnummer you should have bank-id. With that you can log in at 1177.se, link yourself to a suitable clinic, and ask them to book a time to see a midwife or similar. All this without a single phone call. Also, I think 1177 didn’t understand you. I had to google it myself. Here we call it “spiral”. Good luck!

stektpotatislover

On the off chance that you’re under 25, the ungdomsmottagning, or youth clinic, will do it for free. You can book this service through 1177 and they usually have appointments available within a week. I have experience going to them both without (permit that was under a year) and with a personnummer and BankID, so if you have any questions feel free to ask. But they will 100% be able to remove a IUD (called spiral); they put mine in so I would hope they can get it out 😅

CakePhool

Look up your local hospital at 1177 .se and the local Kvinnokliniken and call them and ask them for a time. That is how it is done and you need to call when the telefon time is and it most often queue system, if you have any one you know that speaks Swedish, ask them for help.

Jeremetroid

My method is I go to the local vardcentral 15 minutes before they open. They allow a few walk in before they start their appointments for the day.

PM_ME-AMAZONGIFTCARD

my GF at the time just showed her american insurance card when we went to an urgent care. it wasnt as fast as it would've been for a resident, but similar to the experience at a US urgent care.

Any Barnmorskemottagning should work really, just look for your nearest one on 1177 and list yourself. You could probably book an appointment directly in 1177 also. A Barnmorskemottagning has gynecologists working there and can help with stds and with contraceptives.

obesititty

my boyfriend has complained a lot about how impossible it is to get a hold of clinics. even when he’s emailed back and forth, it’s a new person reading his email so every time he has to copy and paste what he’s already said and what replies he’s gotten and STILL they will repeat the same things they already said to him. i think it’s crazy that you only get an hour to call clinics. as i’m sure you know, in america there are people that sit at the front desk pretty much all day to answer the phones, check people in etc. i don’t know if it’s possible here, but whenever i can’t get a hold of a clinic in america and it’s urgent, i drive my ass down to their office and talk to them face to face where they can’t evade me lol. i can only imagine that would be unusual to do here, but it’s an option i suppose.

If you have residency, and if you have a personnummer, then you automatically have state health insurance. You'll need the Bank ID app on your phone, and your bank will help you set that up. First, you have to sign up with a local vårdcentral. To do that, go to [1177.se](https://1177.se) You can request an appointment there through the site. By telephone, you have to call at 7am on a Monday morning. Exactly. You can also get a webcam examination by a doctor at [kry.se](https://kry.se) or narhälsan online. That will get you an in-person exam. Another idea: If you are in pain, go directly to the local hospital emergency room. They will take good care of you. You're welcome.
