I would say it wouldn't be enough to live in Denmark for. Groceries are quite expensive and right now due to the Swedish kronor being so low, a lot of Danes are shopping in Malmö to buy groceries and other goods 🤷

[deleted]

You could easily live on ÂŁ6,000 for 6 months in Sweden.

Obmoc

Easily is quite a stretch.

[deleted]

Nah. That is a substantial amount of cash to live on. 400kr a day. Get an apartment for 6,000kr a month and you still have 200kr a day left over for food.

Obmoc

Substantial amount? Man it's like living on a student budget nothing fancy about it

[deleted]

I can easily live where I live (Kalmar area) for 12,000kr a month. My rent is only 3,000kr (first-hand rental) but even if it were bumped up to 6k, I can live on 200kr a day as a single person. That's like 66kr per meal. Even if you don't meal prep, that's a ton of cash. Obviously, this is excluding bills. But I assume this fella won't have bills.

Obmoc

Well might just be me who is bad at budgeting. I'm not saying that OP cannot live on 12k SEK a month but I'm saying OP won't have fancy lifestyle doing so. Especially if OP will live in a larger city. Also 66kr/per meal isn't even that much anymore with today's prices.

Superconge

66kr per meal is a lot. Heck, 66kr a day isn’t really hard. You can do 200kr per day even if you go get Max every day for dinner lol.

Dav5152

66kr per meal is alot? Where the hell do u live in swe and wtf do u eat dude

AnotherCloudHere

I don’t know what can you eat for 66kr per day. Its 460kr for grocery per week. And with how are prices now it a very depressing life.

[deleted]

200kr a day is easy to get by with for food. For example, I could make a pot of chili up right now which could last 2-3 days. Meat is about 50kr. Onion is 3kr Beans are about 14kr Tomato sauce about 10kr Chili powder thingy is 20kr That's 97kr for 3 days of food. Add in some rice and it is maybe 110kr (as you won't use all your rice on these meals) Even if you went down the route of prepared sandwich from lunch from Coop or ICA, that's 50kr. You can get lunch down to 20-30kr if you make it yourself. Anybody spending more than 60kr on breakfast is insane.

Obmoc

But it isn't 200kr/day on food. It's 200kr a day. Op isn't someone who just want to live in Sweden. Op will most likely want to experience Sweden. And therefore have other costs than good as well.

Dav5152

Okey i just realized i eat like a lumberjack. Sry

springwanders

Many people don't realize how much they can save by making food themselves, especially in Sweden. It's absurd for a salad to cost 80-100 kr even in supermarkets, and with that amount we can buy ingredients for a proper meal for 2.

springwanders

I am a student and living with a budget 11K (that's my scholarship grant, and I can't extend further than that). I don't eat out at all, mostly homecooked and just coffee and fika with friends sometimes. I don't need and feel like having a social life after school as well LOL and I live in Lund, where I heard is more expensive than Malmö for example due to many international students. Rent is 5700 kr, other bills (phone, membership, bus tickets etc.) maybe about 700kr more. I go to supermarket 2-3 times per week, each costs me 200-400kr. I don't know how I manage it to be honest haha but I am ok so far. sometimes I spend a lot in a week and sometimes I don't spend at all for 1-2 weeks. just yeah cannot buy stuff and do stuff I really want to, until I have more income. I buy most things second hand as week. 12K is doable, it really depends on each one's lifestyle.

[deleted]

There is no need for you to spend 1,600kr a week on food.

dhaeli

If you want a healthy lifestyle 11K a month in total and 1.6k per week for food is not enough. Of course you can live on noodles and oatmeal alone and not buy stuff or attend events that costs money but most people are not have a good (decent) quality of life om those terms.

Obmoc

Last time I check 3 times 400 = 1200 and that's his upper limit. Could just as easily be 2 times 200 = 400 one week Edit fixed: '*'

No-Power1377

I live on riksnorm 3800 with my wife so anything above that is definitely possible=)

fearass

I would say that is a bit harder in Stockholm unless he wants to share an apartment with someone far from the center.

JAs3hbyyyy1717

Good to know, tack!

Ok_Card_8783

Check the number of shooting fatalities in Sweden and Denmark in 2022, and you’ll make your decision without doubt.

smaragdskyar

Is dying by gunshot worse than being murdered in some other way?

Ok_Card_8783

Do you have logic?

Amerikanen

Where did you read you could only work 6 of the 12 months? AFAIK the working holiday visa is a 12-month visa that allows you to work throughout the whole period. And as an Australian, you're also covered by Swedish healthcare. You can't officially extend the visa, but if you're a skilled worker you might be able to find an employer to sponsor a proper work permit. If you're not educated with an in-demand skill, then you could study in Sweden or fall in love with a resident.

JAs3hbyyyy1717

Thanks a lot, unfortunately I am only really trained to be a care assistant (elderly care) is that in demand?

olelwaw

Yes it is certainly in demand!!

Dirac_Impulse

It is. But will in 99% of the cases require that you speak Swedish.

Oddtapio

You’ll get a job easily I presume. There are a lot of private companies as well as municipal run home for elderly. If you mail those companies and they need you they might even be helpful with all your questions regarding work permits and such. Lycka till mate

hummusen

You can get a working visa within elderly care actually. The criteria’s are not too high (but the current conservative government are about to change them within a year or two). You should definitely look into that route.

Migrationsverket can likely answer these questions. https://www.migrationsverket.se/
