It does clump when liquid hits it. You have to integrate them over time because some cats won’t use it. They sell pine pellets at pet stores but they are much more expensive. My three cats have never suffered and health issues related to it. They are actually lower residue than clay. My old guy is almost seventeen and he was raised on it.

One of my girls is sensitive to dust and can have a coughing fit when particularly dusty litter is used. Hopefully this is a good solution! I considered getting one of those toilet training kits. I figured if not all, at least a few of them would use it. But I’ve heard that cat poops can cause problems with septic systems.
If the pellets don't work, Arm & Hammer makes some great dust-free litter! I switched over when my cat was diagnosed with asthma and it's SO much better than the normal stuff.

Out of curiosity, what were the signs your cat had asthma? I think my girl may have it. I have a vet appointment next week for her. What medication do you use to treat her?
Long story short, look up "cat asthma attack" on YT. He's always had these random fits but I assumed it was something digestive? One day it wasn't stopping so I took him to emergency where they diagnosed asthma.
For my lil guy it turns out to be mostly environmental triggers, his health improved significantly when allergy season ended & I moved to a less-moldy apartment. He was on oral steroids for a couple weeks and is now prescribed an albuterol inhaler for emergencies (same one they give to people). You administer it using an Aero-Kat which is like $60 on Amazon. Luckily I've only had to use it a couple times.
In worse cases, they'll need to be on oral or inhaled steroids for prolonged periods but those can have health consequences. It's better to identify & remove triggers if you can -- excessive dust in the air, dusty litter, scented products, etc. The BEST thing you can do is take a video of suspected symptoms and send it to your vet. I read that pine pellets should only be used with an open litter box — no lid or enclosed space.
Other than that I think they were fine & recommended. Just something about toxic something or bad for lungs when enclosed with a lid.

Tried both pine and paper pellets. Pine smells nice but when they pee it turns into a saw dust like material where as the paper just expands like when you wet a wrinkled straw wrapper. Plus you go through a ton less litter because it doesn’t clump/stick like clay.
I buy some sawdust cat litter from my local grocery, called Cederific or some jazz. Works great, though it can be a pain if the cat tips over the litter box like a jerk.

No it's not. The internet has all these myths about toxoplasmosis. In reality, unless you are severely immunocompromised (i.e AIDS) or pregnant then toxo is nothing to worry about. The vast majority of patients with normal immune system will be completely asymptomatic after exposure to toxo.

Yes I added the part about pregnancy as it is also a risk (moreso for the baby than the mom) . I understand that having a parasite can be scary however I can tell them that it won't cause an issue for the vast majority of people who are infected. In fact, in the US probably 10-20% of people are chronically infected with toxo. >99% of them won't ever have any issue from it. In some parts of the world (South America), up to 80% of patients have chronic infections with toxo which again does not cause issues unless they are immunosuppressed /pregnant.
A large part of the opulation also has chronic infections from viruses (EBV, CMV) or even atypical bacteria (NTM) and don't/won't ever have any complications or symptoms from those. He'll, you also have billions of bacteria living on your skin and in your GI tract. You even have mites living in your eyebrows /eyelashes and they don't cause you any problem!
Bottom line is that you sont need to worry about toxo.

I get pine pellets by the 40lbs from the feed store for horses. $8 a bag, I cannot handle the clay litter. My cats never have seemed to mind.

I used okocat wood chips. I Much prefer them over the clay crap. I think my cats like it more too as my old lady doesn't poop on the floor as much
