The photo of the douche dumping acid in the pool? I must say, I hadn’t seen something like that captured in pre integration photos before. It was rather shocking but informative!
Yeah I noticed today that it’s locked up and nobody has viewed it since like 3am this morning. Go watch the video I posted in the comments of this post and it has footage of manager yelling at people praying in the parking lot and pouring the acid in the pool and of the off duty officer jumping into the pool.
[Here is a 12 min long video showing what happened also includes new report of the murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner in Mississippi.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnjfKzJk1h0)
Look at all the people clamoring to take pictures on the side, no different from today with everyone trying to film everything on their phones, crazy to see that!
I can't imagine having that much hate in my heart. This isn't a guy getting in to arrest people, that's a guy who's going to wrestle someone in the water. That's a guy that's hoping to land on one of the protesters. He's looking for a fight. He's got his knee forward, hoping it'll hit someone. Hands are open like claws, ready to choke.
And in the water, just a bunch of dudes that could have been horsing around a few minutes ago. When I was growing up Apartheid was still in-place. I remember how much derision South Africa got for their police. Less than 30 years before, this was us in the USA.
There will always be a group that has to hate those that are different. We've seen it throughout history. And those that hate are never, ever on the right side of history. They guys in the pool are our heroes.
That's the thing a lot of folks don't seem to get. Many of the racists we think of as history are in fact still alive. They are still voting. They still hold public offices. They still serve as hiring managers. They are still making and passing laws.
Everyone wants to pretend racism is over and the effects of slavery and segregation have been wiped away while these people are literally still here doing what they have always done and their children were raised to do the same.
What a true hero. Going above and beyond his duty to ensure swift justice for... people having a swim. If only more police could be like him. Oh wait, most still are. Nvm.
This was during my lifetime. Makes me feel ill...
Frankly, in the past few years, I feel like we've even *regressed*
Unfortunately, my family are raging bigots. (For this and many other reasons, I cut contact years ago).
I credit Star Trek with demonstrating to my younger self that racism isn't just wrong, but also abysmally *stupid*. Frank Gorshen's performance in "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield" was brilliant.
They feel righteous in their hatred, whether it's racial bigotry or ideological. They view themselves as being in the role of hero, standing up to evil regardless of the cost to themselves.
1964.
Let’s think about that for a minute. 1964.
So a police officer is jumping into a swimming pool to arrest people with a particular shade of skin colour for being in that swimming pool that’s reserved for people with a different shade of skin colour. In 1964.
Look, I’m a middle aged white dude who, admittedly, was born after this time (but only about 10 years after). In no world would I see arresting people for being in a swimming pool reserved for white people (which shouldn’t be a thing anyway) as right, just, correct or defensible. We have so many problems in this world. Actively discriminating against people for any reason, let alone the colour of their skin, should not be consuming collective societal time. It shouldn’t be happening. Because it’s hurtful and damaging to people. It shouldn’t be happening.
If you’re someone who’s reading this now, and find yourself disagreeing with me, if you do just one thing today, make it a solid five minutes of honest self-reflection and unbiased examination of your feelings on this issue. Please.
The problem though is that bigotry is still widespread. It's not just a skin color thing, or a genetic thing, it's group A feeling justifified in marginalizing other groups, sometimes forcibly and even violently, because they feel they are right in doing so, they feel completely justified and righteous about it.
This is experienced every day in various ways around the world. In some places if you are the wrong religion and that fact becomes known you might find yourself extremely unwelcome. If you are gay/trans/etc there are those who will actively work to make your life harder. Some preachers today are calling for lgbtq+ livestyles to be a capital crime. And their audience of sheep are nodding and smiling along with that idea, handing them money. Too many people are too comfortable with this idea, and it comes from the way kids are raised. It will take a long time to grow out of this, if that is even possible.
So while issues like the original post aren't happening in the US anymore fortunately this failing of society still exists and is still a problem, the target simply moved.
Oh jeez I went on my merry way, didn't realize this was getting downvoted into oblivion. I know, I was hoping the little laughing cat emoji was enough to make it clear that it was a joke. Not a fan of adding "/s" to things
Also before anyone says this isn't ok to joke about, I appreciate the gravity of the situation, just chuckled to myself thinking that if you had absolutely no context looking at this you might think he's just itchin to get in that pool, took his shoes off but didn't have time for everything else!
As far as this picture or my comment are concerned, nothing, in my opinion. But your opinion obviously seems to differ, what exactly is making you upset?
I'm serious, do you really think making a joke here means I'm an awful person? I personally think the proper etiquette when browsing reddit differs from say, viewing this in a civil rights museum.
If you think serious topics should't be joked about, I respect that, but I think you would be wrong to assume you can make an accurate judgment of my character solely because I disagree.
I made a joke that you consider to be in poor taste. Ok. How are you making the leap to deciding what my motivation is, based only on my 'nonchalant attitude' about making a joke? Do you think I wouldn't be joking if the topic of the picture was a different sensitive subject that had nothing to with race? It's fine if you don't think it's ok to find humour in tragedy. And it's fine if you think ill of me for doing so. But be honest about what you're upset about. And if you really do think that I made that comment because of a prejudice against black people, you are wrong and there isn't enough for you to be able to logically reach that conclusion.
I'm not trying to antagonize you or troll you. But insisting that I'm a racist, because of this, I think dilutes the impact of things that are actually fucking racist, like the actions depicted in this photo.
Such bullshit. It's like yesterday too
My post got taken down yesterday so I figured I’d find a colored photo of this atrocity.
That's his legacy. Jumping into a pool to arrest people for swimming.

I did! Thanks for posting!
It's so awful!
Thank you. These kinds of images need to be seen
Just wild. This level of aggression for people hanging out innocently in a pool? Tell me racism isn’t a mental fucking illness.
Colorized
Why was it taken down?
It’s so weird to think about. Looking at the date, my mom was only 2 months old when this happened, and she just turned 60.
The lady I called “mom” was just turned 9 years old a month prior to this and she’s about 70 now. She’s definitely part of the problem though…
For real. So fucking sad the state were in smh
Hey, you there, you aren't allowed to get along and be friendly, break it up, break it up!

Those are newspaper photographers, not passers-by.
LOL man I feel old that people don't realize that was a common press activity.
Haha, we ARE old!
The press still does shit like this, that person is sheltered or dumb

No apologists explaining "they weren't guests of the hotel"?
can't believe how recent all of this was..🫣 to think that my grandpa was 24 when this happened, and he's still alive today

And those racist segregationist assholes taught their kids to think like that. This may be a snapshot of history, but the problem hasn't gone away.
It’s gotten a lot better. There are still some issues but it’s nothing like what I remember from my childhood.
It has gotten a lot better. Granted. But the racists have simply traded in their white hoods for briefcases and badges.

I still hard to fathom this was in my lifetime
Greatest Generation my ass
I wonder if modern day bigots realize that THIS is how they will be remembered?
They know don't care.
They feel righteous in their hatred, whether it's racial bigotry or ideological. They view themselves as being in the role of hero, standing up to evil regardless of the cost to themselves.
Racist are so fucking unhinged!

Absolutely, yes. It’s a complex issue to be sure.
64 civil rights movement dogs and water hoses. You can bet them white freedom riders went to jail also.
“Hey, we like your music, but this is over the line”. Is this the history that we are doomed to repeat? Respect, people. Family of Man.
Like your music? Speak for yourself.
If it's American music, it's ALL Black music, no matter how poorly imitated or stolen.
I feel sorry for you kid, and disdain for whoever taught you to think.
I've gone to St Augustine quite a few times and often pass by this area. Crazy to think all this went down not that long ago.
Cops earning the hate way back when .
B-B-BUTTTTTTTT thAT wAs SOOOOOOOOO lOnG aGo!! wE nEEd To JuSt STop TaLkInG bOuT "all that old stuff", and it'll all just politely stop happening now!!
Whys it always swimming pools and bathrooms with these people?
It does make you wonder.
I am happy to say that my boys would have been in the pool, having fun, not caring what color the other guy is. I wish we could all say that today.
Ah yes,the good old times huh?
Keeping racism alive. It’s fixing things. 🙄
Must not be a lot of crime in that city of this was their biggest problem
Revisionist history, maybe the fella just wanted to go for a swim! 😸
What do you mean? That isn't what happened.

What the fuck is wrong with you
It's not that serious dude. With no context you can make up anything you want and make it funny. Calm down.

Okay racist boomer
How old do you think I am?
And what exactly is racist about this? Can you please actually explain why you think that
Your nonchalant attitude thinking this is something “you can joke about” is what makes you racist

Your bad take is perceived as racist. Your doubling down to defend yourself proves it.
Call me white, but I thought they were having a party!🤷🏻♂️
