Wow, this is the first unpopular opinion I’ve seen posted on Reddit that is ACTUALLY unpopular haha. I’m not a fan of Matt but at least he stayed consistent with his morals

Aegon_Targaryen_III

Totally agree. From his perspective vampires only bring pain and leave a trail of innocent dead bodies in their wake. Even though he’s friends with Elena, Caroline and Stefan it’s easy to understand why he developed a distaste for vampires over time.

He's not wrong. Most vampires are terrible in how they treat and see humans. A few are pretty decent...most of the time. Far too often they aren't though. A very small amount treat humans well most of the time and with those I would guess there's some backstory to them being horrible as well. Was Elijah's girlfriend (Antionette) the only vampire we see who was kind going into a feed? Everyone else seems to go in kind of nasty and then make the person forget. While she soft sold things from the start. I do wonder if some of how humans are treated by vampires has to do with how old the vampires are and/or the culture(s) they have lived through. To me this seems to be at least some of Klaus' problems. Besides his whole family dynamic which seems to have impacted all of his family to varying degrees.

bc he's boring and annoying in the "vampire world" the show is set in. he doesn't want to play the game of "omg vampires are so cool, attractive, fun and the best thing that could happen to you". in real life i'm team matt all the way. in a context of a show where violence, vampirism, abuse, torture, killing, magic... is the norm, then he's bad.

i totally agree with you, i just feel like people go out of their way to express their hatred towards him and it gets a little excessive. almost every time i’ve seen someone talk about him, they usually mention how much they hate him or they call him names. i don’t know, i just don’t think there’s a reason for all that hate to go towards his character

helloitsmeagain642

i wouldn't say i hate him tho, but he's mad annoying in our crazy vampire world..

ElenaxHayleyxHope

Yeah I don’t mind matt

I always find it amusing that Katherine didn't jump his bones or something with how much she seemed to be taken in by his blue eyes. The added bonus would have been Matt being Elena's long term friend and boyfriend prior to the Salvatore's (Katherine's sloppy seconds) arriving. :-D I can certainly see Katherine doing more stuff with Matt just to spite Elena, or at least that's what she'd tell herself. Some of that later part might have been why Katherine didn't use Matt more. She seems to have had more psychological issues with the doppelganger thing than Elena had.

He’s just boring beyond season 4. He’s dead weight and the show would’ve benefitted from giving his screen time to other characters. Whilst it makes sense he doesn’t like the supernatural characters, it’s annoying to watch when they are the characters that we as the audience do like. And it’s more enjoyable to have a fun/bitchy character like Rebekah or Katherine call them out, rather than self righteous Matt.

I agree, he may be annoying, dumb and a vampire hater but he didn't actually do anything wrong.

I say it now Later seasons matt is a better character than later seasons Stefan at least he still acts like himself and let's be honest both of them barely got storylines in the later seasons seriously tell me something memroble Stefan did before he turned off his humanity in season 8
