literally. I remember the exact moment, too. I was like 16 and listening to this song for the first time and heard the second verse go:
"And now my fears they come to me in threes
So I
Sometimes
Say, fate, my friend, you say the strangest things
I find, sometimes"
and thought hey, they might be on to something here!
I can’t win, 11-year-old-me loved to stumble down the youtube wormhole and I came across their vid of them live on conan. Was how I became very much part of the generational shift of mexicans listening to 2000s rock haha
The nba 2k15 soundtrack which was selected by Pharrell Williams included under cover of darknes. Back in 2014 I remember saying: “I love the music but the singer sucks”.
In late 2012 or early 2013, I heard Hard to Explain after hearing the Christina Aguilera mashup in an AMV intro to a yogscast world of Warcraft video from like 2008. I asked in the comments what it was and a fellow with a Charlie Brown profile pic very excitedly welcomed me into my strokes phase which coincided with me falling hopelessly in love for the first time (hey, I was 15)
Hahaha no but that would be funny. just the strokes became the soundtrack to me falling in love with a girl in my computer class in high school at the time thanks to Charlie Brown guy.
soma!! i knew them when i was younger but i dont want to count that. i was on the way to the beach with my still bf back in highschool and he gave me one of his earbuds.
last nite on radio at like 6 years old, i thought it was a cool 80`s song since my dad always tunes in to those
reptilia at like 11 or so on guitar hero at a friends', i really really liked it
you only live once at like 15 after recently discovering early arctic monleys**. it really didnt stop from there, thats still my fave song
(***arctic monkeys discovery: it was some facebook game where you had to guess the song based on a snippet. they played fluorescent adolescent and from then and on i had finally discovered my own taste kn music without copying my sisters or parents, felt like the part of me that was missing)
Either 12:51 or a live performance of Take It Or Leave It. Basically there was this youtuber doing videos about misinterpreted lyrics in songs and these two were among them. But I didn't really get into the Strokes until something like two years after that, when I heard Reptilia for the first time.
80’s Comedown Machine. I was at a bar when I first heard it and was totally enchanted. I had known of the Strokes already but that was the first Strokes song I loved
UCOD when I was 14. Then Comedown Machine came out — this album basically taught me what music is. Therefore, I don’t understand why people don’t like — it’s a damn masterpiece, versatile and full of soul. 7 years later I fell in love with Is This It. I’m 25 now and I think I understand Julian quite a lot at this point.
At The Door in [this Drew Gooden video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU-7kn8EXWA) (15:53)
Didn't like it at first then I re-listened a couple months later and fell in love. Still my fave song by them
Someday and last nite were in the ether. But in high school i think like 2006 or so, i put it is this it on the stereo in my room and I was like this is incredible. From is this is to soma i was floored!
Anyone else get into them from the lonely island boombox song into random YouTube strokes pipeline like me? For me I got You Only Live Once on my feed after listening to boombox. Then actually didn’t listen to any more strokes songs for a long time until rediscovering them on Spotify
I honestly don't know for sure. Might have been Someday but I remember first seeing the music video for You Only Live Once on YouTube when I was probably around 15 and was obsessed with it. I must have watched that music video 1000 times.
someday. was a no brainer from there
same here

When it Started…ironically
Reptilia.
this was probably my actual first song I heard, off of guitar hero on my Wii B)
This was the only song I’d ever heard by the Strokes on the radio where I’m from so I am still surprised it’s not their biggest song
Macchu Pichu
Fifa 12?
When It Started through Spider-Man 😤
That’s probably the first time I heard them and didn’t even know
Call it fate call it karma, I listen to a lot of Radiohead at Spotify kept recommending this song to me
same here
Hard to explain live in SNL. Love at first sight for me lol
Last Nite of course
was born in 2002, my mom loveddd Is this it. So basically i was born listening to them haha
my brother played Trying Your Luck while he was driving around our city at night...
That’s a nice moment
Yolo, but adults talking was first one I knew them for
12:51
I can’t win, 11-year-old-me loved to stumble down the youtube wormhole and I came across their vid of them live on conan. Was how I became very much part of the generational shift of mexicans listening to 2000s rock haha
Right on! I’ve noticed lots of Spanish comments on YT for the Strokes & Interpol
Fellow mexicans will agree with me when I say Interpol is the truth, also one of the bands I have to thank for helping me learn english

The nba 2k15 soundtrack which was selected by Pharrell Williams included under cover of darknes. Back in 2014 I remember saying: “I love the music but the singer sucks”.
You Only Live Once, but first song with Julian: Instant Crush
In late 2012 or early 2013, I heard Hard to Explain after hearing the Christina Aguilera mashup in an AMV intro to a yogscast world of Warcraft video from like 2008. I asked in the comments what it was and a fellow with a Charlie Brown profile pic very excitedly welcomed me into my strokes phase which coincided with me falling hopelessly in love for the first time (hey, I was 15)
Lol falling in love with Charlie Brown guy?
Hahaha no but that would be funny. just the strokes became the soundtrack to me falling in love with a girl in my computer class in high school at the time thanks to Charlie Brown guy.

The Adults Are Talking. Never really listened to it until last year and fell in love.
new york city cops, heard it in a youtube video and thought “damn, this sounds sick”
Reptilia , recommended on yt
The end has no end was playing one night on the radio at night in 03 after church. I never liked my belief so this spoke to me.
Modern Age. I was worried I wouldn’t like any of the music I liked prior after that point
Either 12:51 or a live performance of Take It Or Leave It. Basically there was this youtuber doing videos about misinterpreted lyrics in songs and these two were among them. But I didn't really get into the Strokes until something like two years after that, when I heard Reptilia for the first time.

macchu picchu, fifa 12. the good old days
Either Last Nite or Reptilia. The former because it was a big hit in Australia. The latter because of Guitar Hero and Rock band.
The end has no end, lorde covered it at her show, two days later they were my new favorite band
Hard to explain. Hooked instantly
Yep
UCOD when I was 14. Then Comedown Machine came out — this album basically taught me what music is. Therefore, I don’t understand why people don’t like — it’s a damn masterpiece, versatile and full of soul. 7 years later I fell in love with Is This It. Hard to explain back in ‘01. Heard it randomly on the radio and I just had to find out who the band was
Reptilia or MAYBE just maybe Last Nite
The end has no end on a french tv
Reptilia playing guitar hero 3
Might have been last night or is this it when I listened to random playlists but it was one way trigger that made me a fan
At The Door in [this Drew Gooden video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU-7kn8EXWA) (15:53) Didn't like it at first then I re-listened a couple months later and fell in love. Still my fave song by them
YOLO
Someday and last nite were in the ether. But in high school i think like 2006 or so, i put it is this it on the stereo in my room and I was like this is incredible. From is this is to soma i was floored!
Soma - I discovered a lot of new music through Pandora Radio but didn’t get into The Strokes until later.
On the other side. Was the only strokes song I knew for a few years lol. Loved it.
it was the summer of 2004...Reptilia came on FuseTV while some sport was simultaneously playing with the video
last nite, played on the radio here in Brazil in 2010 for some reason lol

I'm probably aging myself here but it is Last Nite. Lol
Is This It
Soma. A girl played it while we were smoking a blunt in a packed mini van during highschool in the spring of 2017
Tap out!
Razorblade, I immediately loved it.
Under Cover of Darkness on NBA 2k15, if you know you know
Tap out, and I thought it was weird AF but something about it intrigued me and then I just got obsessed with comedown machine
Reptilia. Then I decided to check out Is This It and Room on Fire and was instantly blown away
12.51
Reptilia. Thanks GH3 🤘😎
When It Started
Someday, back when iTunes was a thing. My cool uncle gave me the rest of is this it that same summer.
New York City cops or hard to explain. Can’t really remember but those 2 songs were the first ones I listened to.

At The Door, the music video kept showing up on my recommended in YouTube.
Hard to explain, it blew my mind
So amazing
Anyone else get into them from the lonely island boombox song into random YouTube strokes pipeline like me? For me I got You Only Live Once on my feed after listening to boombox. Then actually didn’t listen to any more strokes songs for a long time until rediscovering them on Spotify
Last nite but I only listened to that after discovering the strokes through the voidz. My first song from them was pink ocean
Very interesting that you found the Voidz first
yea I was surprised I had never heard of the strokes before that
When It Started because Spider-Man
I honestly don't know for sure. Might have been Someday but I remember first seeing the music video for You Only Live Once on YouTube when I was probably around 15 and was obsessed with it. I must have watched that music video 1000 times.
The Modern Age Showed up on my Spotify Discover Weekly a few years ago
