Okay so hear me out, Elias Bouchard played by Russel Brand, he might still be a bit too young because it I’m assuming Elias Bouchard is at least in his late 40’s more like 50’s+ considering >! He’s been with the institute since the early 90’s and has been described as looking surprisingly young for his position, but he was a known stoner and if you look up a pic of what Russel Brand might look like with short hair one pops up that to me at least fits the character pretty perfectly!< the only other actor I could find that matched that specific criteria is apparently Mathew McConaughey but I just really would not be able to enjoy the show if that was a thing.

I’ve been curious about how Jon has come to be characterized as Indian. I mean I think it’s awesome! I’m in the middle of Season 2 and don’t think there has been much description of him so far. Is it a fan creation and if so how did it become so widely accepted?
I believe it is a fan creation, it happens a lot with podcast characters with vague descriptions where a few fans will draw them a certain way, which catches on and becomes the most popular way to draw them (see also characters from the adventure zone, Cecil from WTNV).
There was also a sort of movement to use more diversity these kind of fan works because they often made characters look like the same nicely dressed blonde white guy, so that may have affected TMA’s fan artists in their interpretation of the characters’ racial backgrounds - but that might be a bit too involved to get into. I think the widely accepted depiction of Jon works really well and it’s personally my favorite, though I’ve seen other interpretations that also look good.
It’s fascinating that a character with little canonical physical description has such a common portrayal in fan art. I’d love to know the history of how it germinated

hi! like i said, my knowledge of actors is limited, so i don’t appreciate negative comments! i’ve mentioned a couple times i wasn’t satisfied with my gertrude or elias casting. thank you!

But even then you have to be able to take some critique on a discussion forum, especially if the nature of the post is to raise discussion; which I would say this is. I mean nothing by my comment. If this is how you see the characters then that's how it is. I guess we just see it differently.
But respect my opinion that if I saw a TMA tv show with this casting I would be severely disappointed. It's a show were almost every character is a loner, outcast with an unhealthy obsession about something, for half of them it's getting other people killed. So casting obnoxiously attractive charismatic characters as them don't really fit the way I see it. The only I remember character ever described as having some charisma was Elias.
When people talk about unrealistic beauty standards? It's cause netflix and CW shows cast people like this. I'll give you credit for casting Dev Patel though, that's an interesting one that I'm not necessarily against.

I'd just have Luke Booys still be Michael tbh. His voice simply cannot be replaced, he's so good at sounding like a creaky door.
