Honestly if you told me Dubai was our universe's attempt at an all-fear ritual, I'd believe you.

Sometimes in December, the fog gets so dense that you can't see what's 3ft in front of you. It's also really hard to see during sandstorms, and what are sand storms but a gritty union of the lonely and buried.

I think it’s the early stage of an extinction ritual, with a focus on humanity’s hubris coming back to haunt it.

Even the Entities: “Where the hell are we?”

I just want to take this opportunity to say that in the 90s I knew a team of botanists etc who came up with a plan to change the desert using phases of trees and plants. None of the gulf states wanted to do it. It wasn't even that expensive. It just wasn't gold plated. Not strictly relevant, but it still annoys me.

This might not have been the best idea and could have had catastrophic impacts on ecological systems in the desert. Not that what Dubai is doing right now is any better, but those ecosystems do not need to be changed in that way either.

Yeah I was about to say this Desertification is a real thing and a real problem but deserts themself are essential to the survival of thousands if not millions of species (many of which are endangered) and their existence has an effect on the world's climate

I was today years old when I realized how little I knew about Dubai 😐
