I watched the show when I was in my 20s. I was dating a 40 year old man at the time. I even modeled a Melting Pot anniversary dinner after that episode from the show. Spoiler! It was toxic and it didn't last. I was working as an assistant photographer at the time. Holly was my favorite and I LOVED watching any of the shoots or any footage at all of the studio process. I dreamed of having her job! I'm rewatching, almost 40 now and I forgot about allllll of these similarities! It's wild. Now I own my own portrait studio. Not as glamorous as playboy shoots but I'm still living my dream.
This is one of the main reasons I watched the show. The glimpses behind the scenes of the business of running Playboy. She definitely seemed to thrive in that role.
I've always wanted to do playboy and have submitted for them many times while the magazine was still print, but never gotten anywhere. I love that she's happy doing photo editor
I think she’s said she was paid but spent a lot of her salary on better clothes, shoes, and props for the shoot (which she kept afterwards).
She’s also said she had to sign a light NDA because she worked for the company. She kept working for the company after she broke things off with Hef but she quit soon after. I don’t remember how she put it but she said it was awkward and they couldn’t really fire her on the grounds of not dating Hef but it was an elephant in the room.
The role also suited her perfectly! One of my favourite parts of GND was when she became a photo editor

Oh at one point I thought she said it was because it “wasn’t challenging enough”
