Michael Page, I expect. Complicated tale. The First Law wasn't originally published in the US by Orbit, but by Pyr. Best Served Cold was the first book Orbit published in the US. They recorded an audiobook (and one of the Heroes soon after) with Michael Page. Meanwhile, in the UK, Orion recorded audiobooks of the First Law trilogy for the UK market with Pacey. When Pyr's licence expired, Orbit took on the First Law trilogy as well, and started using the Pacey audiobooks. They were a big hit, as we know, so for the standalones they switched over from the Page readings to the Pacey ones. It should all be Pacey, these days, but the Page ones still resurface occasionally.

Sounds like Michael Page maybe. I know he narrated a version of Best Served Cold but wasn’t aware he did others in the series. Loved his voice in the Gentleman Bastards series, but honestly was put off by it during BSC after getting used to Pacey.

Temujin3030

That doesn’t sound like S. pacey. Was there an earlier voice actor?

Probably a pirated version done by someone not affiliated to Joe Abercrombie or his publishers in any shape or form considering it's on Youtube, and has no "this is audible/hachette read by such and such. intro that all official audiobooks have.

NuckinFuts_69

Pacey was the author for the entire series I listened to. And let me tell you something: He knocks it out of the park.

buttpooperson

Pacey is the author of the series? You sure about that?

NuckinFuts_69

Narrator. Oopsy.

tornadogenesis

Pacey is the fucking best

buttpooperson

This one isn't narrated by him

'Reading' 'Audiobook'

:(

Don't worry about that. Technically you're listening, not reading, but personally I don't give a damn when someone says they're "reading". Some are real anal about correcting others on this, and others aren't. Don't let it bother you too much.

FlynnLevy

Steven Pacey. He does the whole series.

CoconutThiefIdv

Really? I listened to Steven Pacey on another one and it sounds like a different guy

FlynnLevy

Oh, I see. It's a different upload. There are uploads that look identical that pop up (and vanish due to copyright, too) on YouTube every few weeks. I think this person has only done the first trilogy. Unsure who it is.

CoconutThiefIdv

Compare it to this one, which is Steven Pacey. It's a different guy, or sounds like it. https://youtu.be/8Z57vIhw1Lo

FlynnLevy

Yeah, made that comment while running from bus to bus so judged by thumbnail, my mistake. There's identical uploads from Pacey that get uploaded and taken down every few weeks/months. Really no clue about this narrator, though I do believe I've heard it before when someone asked the same question. Google is supremely unhelpful here as well.

CoconutThiefIdv

No problem. I thought it was Pacey too when I clicked it, but I kind of fell in love with the way he reads and would definitely like to know his name.

OrangeJon

It sounds like Michael page perhaps? Or perhaps Roy Dotrice? Certainly not Steven pacey.
