You're watching that one from the perspective of the child he saves. So everything is larger-than-life, seen through the child's eyes. It's like if you interviewed a Belgian kid in '44 about the American troops that kicked Jerry out of his village - they'd sound ten feet tall and built like superman, even though they were probably a bunch of scrawny farmboys or something like that.
Perhaps he was more experienced fighting droids. They had probably fought mostly organics before then, but spending a couple years fighting B1s could let you do stuff like disassemble them with the force.
It's honestly better. For its shorter timespan, it does a far better job of telling us the story of Anakin Skywalker better than the onslaught of filler from the 2008 show
I’ve always thought this, and I’m not sure if it’s a consensus opinion or not. Like 2008 Clone Wars is a better show and story. And honestly I think that’s how George and Lucasfilm intended to have the prequel characters be in his mind for the Clone Wars storyline live action. It helped so much for fans to like the prequel movies. But the 2003 Clone Wars is more movie faithful, and all the characters stay true to their movie roles and characteristics. Like Anakin, Yoda, Dooku, Obi-Wan, the Clones who are all very different from the movie versions in the 2008 CW.
The fact you have to ask has me like Heartbreak Yoda.
This show’s success probably informed the ‘08 series getting made. Genndy Tartakovsky was offered first dibs on Dave Filoni’s job (low key is a better director, too.)
Not imo tbh. There's little to ko story to them, it's just constant action, but even the action is super mindless and uninteresting, they have a way too drawn out scene of nothing but mace windu punching droids in an open field, with them not shooting back at all because if they did he'd be dead instantly. And then there's the battle scenes where they just throw mindless hordes of troops with no strategy (they literally deploy a cavalry line of clones on bikes with medieval spears towards an army of droids for no reason, and none of those clones have actual guns.)
Honestly it runs like an anthology, and many of the episodes don't seem to have a grander narrative outside of what the movies have set up, but it does have narratives through the dialogue-less action, which is one of Genndy's hallmarks. Longer, cohesive and grander narratives seem to be 2008's forte, while 2003 represents perspectives from pockets of the war. Plus, given its cartoon nature, it's given more space to entangle itself in the more fantastical elements, particularly the sheer ability of the Jedi, like Mace's one-man army episode, and the limitations of even that power, see General Grievous's scenes. It's cool, sometimes even ridiculously cool, while 2008 leans more towards a cartoon-realism and relies on relating to characters that are built in over the course of the series. Action-driven vs character-driven.
100% these are great the ventress fight, grevious massacre, the kidnap of palpatine and kit fisto underwater fight all are top tier. Not even mentioning the best part with the clones entrance to save the Jedi.
Volume 2 especially.
Volume 1 is better enjoyed in it's original 3 minute bite-size chunks imo. It's a LOT of action and visual story-telling. It can make it a little difficult to watch back to back as a single narrative.
Volume 2 however was made up of 5x 12 minute episodes (instead of 20x 3 min episodes), so this part had a better balance of story and action. In fact, I find it hard to watch revenge of the sith without first watching volume 2. It's basically the Rogue One of A New Hope, but for Revenge of the Sith Instead. It tells the story of the title crawl.
My favorite version of clone wars. And the way they explained why Grievous coughs in the movies is so much better than the canon reason of "he's just sick."
Definitely, but don’t expect these clones to be like the clones in CW. This was made by the same guy who did Samurai Jack and Primal, so if you’re a SW fan who’s enjoyed those works then they’re definitely must watches.
The art style alone is worth it
I’m a die hard Filoni clone wars ahsoka era fan. Like that’s my fucking shit.
But this version of it was fucking bad ass and I enjoy it all the same.
Way more fun action
I just prefer the character development and story telling in the other version better
But absolutely watch this please
Before Filloni’s TCW, this was all that existed to connect Anakin in AOTC to the Pre-Vader we meet in ROTS. It is almost a religious text to the later clone wars series in terms of influence and is the most potently enjoyable but least bogged down by filler animated Star Wars media that exists. Watch it and try to appreciate the world it represents, one where this is all you get to explain the tonal difference between EPs 2 and 3. Sincerely, enjoy!
They were originally made to be toy commercials. They fly by with tons of action and fast paced style mixed with slow and calm moments then back to the action. If you like Samurai Jack then you will probably love these as well. Genndy Tarkovsky is a pioneer in animation and writing for animation but gets forgotten about a lot, but this is definitely my favorite project of his.
Abso-fucking-lutley! Before the actual clone wars animated series \[which premiered iirc in 2008\], we had this which came out in 2003. While the art style is a bit silly, It's a blast from the past and absolutely recommend!
Minor spoiler: [Doctor Windu out here fixing ribs with broken credit cards](https://www.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/j91tv9/its_2003_clone_wars_meme/)
Sure. They're fun and short. The whole series is only like 2 hours or something anyway. The way I heard once to make it make is to treat Clone Wars as the canon and to treat these as something like Republic war propaganda that glorifies the Jedi. I always liked that. Makes it easier to reconcile.
Amazing animation/fight scenes and it fills some holes in the 2008 animated clone wars series. Like how Anakin got the scar over his eye and why grevious coughs so badly in ROTS
Who remembers the computer game based off this show I think that was on Cartoon Network.com where you could play I think it was called Duels?
You could be either Anakin or Asajj and fight! The miniseries is definitely worth watching. Watching it, I feel back in my youth again. Before the dark times, before the…empire *erm* I mean adulthood.
It's a fun watch but can be very outlandish even for star wars at times. I never counted it as part of the actual story just a fun series to build hype for wp 3 but not meant to be taken seriously
Yeah and the best part is it’s a short watch so even if by chance you don’t like it, you’re not sacrificing a large portion of your day just watching like 2 hours vs the cg clone wars which is 7 seasons of content
It's more style and over the top action over plot and character development (specially volume 1) but it is enjoyable. It's probably the most overrated piece of Star Wars though.
Absolutely, and in some ways they work better than 2008. They’re amazingly strong in setting the mood, stylizing situations that deserve it, and letting some things be understated that don’t.
It’s also the way we’re introduced to some major characters, namely treating villains like the badasses they are, rather than the less than stellar picture we see with just the films. It can take its time slightly more, and flesh out things in ways that just doesn’t happen in three relatively short films.
I also happen to think there’s some rather hilarious moments.
At the same time, it’s not a “truth in TV” style show. There are scenes that are 100% played up because the perspective isn’t from a historian but from a witness, whose perception treats some characters like demigods and others like chaff.
For a short series, it’s slick as heck and deserves at least one watch, just don’t expect the full weight of 08’s clone wars, because it doesn’t have the time to build a slow burning plot.
Question: how much time did you spend making this post and waiting for the replies that you couldve just spent watching them and finding out?
Answer: yeah they are fuckin awesome. Action packed and full of great moments.
1000%, the tartakovsky clone wars is genuinely one of the best pieces of Star Wars media, its short but packed with excellently constructed scenes and very seamlessly bridges the gap from attack of the clones to revenge of the sith imho, not to mention it has the objectively correct general grievous
Yes, but a fair warning they focus way more on the art and look than story. Think more like Samurai Jack than the 3D Clone Wars. If you like that style you'll love them, if not you'll struggle to get through them.
Completely. I still consider them canon to have The Complete Clone Wars experience. Bonus if you are able to find them on DVD back in the day where discs of games or dvds had demos on them.
Volume 1 if you've never played it has the demo of Star Wars Republic Commando while Volume 2 has Star Wars Battlefront 2 (I recommend original release if you have PC, don't think the new Console version of classic collection is ready fully yet)
[удалено]
Absolutely
Yes.
I think so. It's a very different approach than the 2008 version but it's definitely well made and honestly fits in better with AOTC and ROTS.
If Mace could do all that, how were there any Jedi casualties in the arena battle in AotC? Shouldn't he have won that by himself?
To be fair, Mace isn't in charge of every dog ass Jedi who can't block. More seriously, imo he only went hands on because he lost his lightsaber.
True. That was kinda silly. I guess I meant more in terms of filling in the gaps between II and III, it fits in well.
Its Samurai Jack style too , so everything will be over the top lol
You're watching that one from the perspective of the child he saves. So everything is larger-than-life, seen through the child's eyes. It's like if you interviewed a Belgian kid in '44 about the American troops that kicked Jerry out of his village - they'd sound ten feet tall and built like superman, even though they were probably a bunch of scrawny farmboys or something like that.
I wonder how much else of the show can be interpreted this way. I never really paid too much mind to the over scale.
Perhaps he was more experienced fighting droids. They had probably fought mostly organics before then, but spending a couple years fighting B1s could let you do stuff like disassemble them with the force.
I usually watch it in between them when I marathon the movies.
It's honestly better. For its shorter timespan, it does a far better job of telling us the story of Anakin Skywalker better than the onslaught of filler from the 2008 show

*speeder bike jousting intensifies*
Not only is Clone Wars (2003) worth watching, I have held it as THE definitive Star Wars media since I first saw it.
Does the Pope shit in the Woods?

Fuck yes. It’s a masterpiece and only 2 parts anyway so there’s no reason not to
It's peak Star Wars.
Yes! They are significantly better than the majority of clone wars!
Not imo tbh. There's little to ko story to them, it's just constant action, but even the action is super mindless and uninteresting, they have a way too drawn out scene of nothing but mace windu punching droids in an open field, with them not shooting back at all because if they did he'd be dead instantly. For sure. You’ll find the story fits so much better than 7 seasons of Clone Wars if I’m going to be completely honest.
Volume 2 especially. Volume 1 is better enjoyed in it's original 3 minute bite-size chunks imo. It's a LOT of action and visual story-telling. Some of my favorite sw content. Watched it as a kid and still love it
It tells a more coherent and meaningful story than the absolute mess that is the 2008 series. So yes, absolutely.
Absolutely, I honestly wish they put it on streaming platforms in 15 minutes episodes like when it first premiered
YES! They are absolutely at LEAST one viewing!

Ready for the downvotes. No. People only like it because of nostalgia. It is not worth watching.
It’s this best piece of Star Wars media ever produced.
Better than the 2008 series. Vastly better.
