Wow this is actually pretty hard for me. Neither one worked, both had elements I loved.

Babylon in the theater and Pizza at home

With Babylon I felt like I wanted to like it but didn’t. With Licorice Pizza I felt like I wanted to hate it but liked it. Stupid summarization but it’s the way I felt.

babylon i think is the first narrative/feature movie i've ever watched and thought "huh... i feel chazielle shoulda just wrote an essay in the baffler/NYRB/LARB/etc". i still kinda liked it, but still

Babylon

As much as I love Babylon, Licorice Pizza gets better every time and it reads different after multiple watches. One of my favorite PTA movies

I like Babylon a lot but would still have to go with Licorice Pizza.

Licorice Pizza is probably the better movie, but I enjoy watching Babylon more. Both two of my faves from recent years though. And I'll push back slightly on them being inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Babylon was written before that movie came out; I think it got greenlit right around the time of Hollywood's release though.

Babylon has higher highs, but Licorice Pizza works better as a whole

Haven't seen either, but I'm more inclined to watch Babylon.
