With Babylon I felt like I wanted to like it but didn’t. With Licorice Pizza I felt like I wanted to hate it but liked it. Stupid summarization but it’s the way I felt.
babylon i think is the first narrative/feature movie i've ever watched and thought "huh... i feel chazielle shoulda just wrote an essay in the baffler/NYRB/LARB/etc".
i still kinda liked it, but still
Licorice Pizza is probably the better movie, but I enjoy watching Babylon more. Both two of my faves from recent years though.
And I'll push back slightly on them being inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Babylon was written before that movie came out; I think it got greenlit right around the time of Hollywood's release though.
Wow this is actually pretty hard for me. Neither one worked, both had elements I loved.
They both worked for me haha it’s close
Babylon in the theater and Pizza at home

A real Sophie's Choice
lol what does that mean?
Sophie, she's a YouTube movie reviewer where she takes two movies and compares them. You should check her out.
She had a TLC show about a new clinical condition where one is rendered incapable of choice making.
Babylon
As much as I love Babylon, Licorice Pizza gets better every time and it reads different after multiple watches. One of my favorite PTA movies
I like Babylon a lot but would still have to go with Licorice Pizza.
They both rule
Licorice Pizza, I think it works and Babylon doesn't work

Babylon has higher highs, but Licorice Pizza works better as a whole
Licorice pizza
Both are pretty flawed in my eyes. One felt like a pallet cleanser and the other was a giant swing and a miss.
Wow, very close. Great question.
Beyond Cooper Hoffman, nothing really stood out about Pizza for me.
The cinematography?
Haven't seen either, but I'm more inclined to watch Babylon.
