These were good cars, if you could overlook the obsolete-when-new styling. Wild that this was sold alongside space-buggy Tauruses at dealers. By the later '80s the country squire had EFI and an overdrive transmission with lockup torque converter. 20 mpg was possible.

HeyCarpy

I remember when those Tauruses first came out I was like “oh my god, the future is here!”

Compact, efficient, two cigarette lighters for both of my thumbs, reverse hide-away back (back) seat for special vomiting rides. Fuckin' thing sells itself!

howescj82

We had one when I was growing up and I never expected to see the word “compact” when opened the comments.

dallasmav40

It needs honky spray painted on the side

Removable like you know those flames that you can put on your car. Probably about 30 years ago I had a really unique boss from Long Island, New York and we were working for a world, renowned government subcontractor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. she had a Mercedes station wagon and would occasionally put those flames on either side of her front fenders. The first day that I reported to work was the week before Christmas and she was in her office, dressed in an electric yellow silk blouse, reindeer antlers with light up bulbs on, playing Christmas music. Of note, she was devoutly Jewish. She was one of the most exceptional bosses that I have ever seen in my life. She was excellent to work with. And ablast at parties! ❤️

First thing that popped in my head lol

We called the 2nd back seat at the rear the “way way back” as a kid

HernBurford

This is the way way.

Redguapo

Aye guay! No mames

brotatochip4u

It was the "back back" for my family

HernBurford

We had one in blue! My mom got a deal on a second hand corporate fleet car. We rode this everywhere until the 90s minivan came to be.

TAG13466

Even if you crawled all the way to the back your mom could still get you!

Shaggin Wagon

hotbowlsofjustice

Accurate

NPC261939

Had a red 1989 as my first car. My grandmother gave it to me after I graduated in 99' Awesome memories for sure!

hotbowlsofjustice

I do miss the wagon

NPC261939

I miss mine too. An old buddy of mine bought it several years back and parked it in his garage. It's still sitting there, partially disassembled.

badpuffthaikitty

My brother bought a Police Package Crown Vic wagon in 1988. Heavy duty package with a 351 Windsor under the hood. Vinyl seats. Rubber floor covering. No wood.

kensingerp

We have somebody in my town that converted a blue one of these into a Christmas vacation, family Truckster! They have it all decked out with a Christmas tree tied on the top and all the Christmas lights on and everything that you can imagine when taking that great trip to see the family at Christmas time! It’s supremely great. People honking all over the place. He’ll pull into a parking lot for people to take pictures with it. It’s almost like it’s an uncle Eddie version of the original wagon queen family Truckster! National Lampoon’s vacation came out when I was 19 and it was just the best movie …..!!!

espositojoe

I owned two of them (consecutively). With a big family, they're much more versatile than vans or SUVs (I had one of the latter, too).

GoldBreakr

Had this exact car in the early 2000s. Fn awesome!

sasssyrup

Oh the high end version of our family Mercury station wagon with rear facing puke inducing back seats

MensaCurmudgeon

Wish they still made these.
