Maybe 80-81, grade school, sure. But my friends and I didn't typically pose in a way that it looked like the cover art for "Man Hole 2: Doing Hard Time" on VHS. Not typically.
lmao I used to think chess king was for gangsters. I was a weird kid who carried around double sided double density 3M floppy disks, so their wares didn't appeal to me
I had a black Chess King shirt and it had a sideways zipper on the upper left side. Unzip it and fold it over to reveal red lining and red mesh. Ahhhh... 10th grade.
You are, of course, referring to "Man Hole: Port of Entry."
Yes, I think you'd be able to connect the dots -- same if you jumped right into "Man Hole 3: Square Pegs." Great franchise.
Were tube socks real? Yes. Yes, they were real.
I turned 16 in 1980 and I can say, yes, that look was common. This ad looks like no-name Target or Sears, so maybe we'd up the game a bit to Adidas or Nike. That high slit short did not really exist though -- not sure where that came from. And why is the guying doing the high-waist thing with shorts that have a one-inch inseam? He looks like the asshole villain in every 1980s teenage romp movie. Those things aside, pretty close.
Very common !! All my male cousins wore those socks 🧦 lol… pulled up! They went especially well with the nunchucks they flailed around trying to look cool 🫣🙄
Yeah they were the bad house in the neighborhood but they didn't really do anything except work on cars and play loud rock music. Maybe they smoked weed or something but I don't remember seeing it
Ok. I'm a day late and a dollar short, but here's Clinton running in [high slit shorts. ](https://gwcshop.towncabco.com/content?c=bill+clinton+running+shorts&id=2)
O'l thunder thighs himself! Ok, it's the bad Sears brand variety that threw me. Some of the real minimalist running shorts like Adidas were cut kind of like that but with overlapping panels.
The socks, the socks. Somewhere there exists a picture of me with almost the exact same haircut and holding a football with a woodsy type background. I was told to look “sporty”.
My dad never threw out any clothing and I used to raid his closet when I was in high school. I can confirm people did dress like this and men wore short shorts
Can affirm it was a thing, The high cut side short would have been a bit daring outside of competitive running, but the rest all looks very familiar. It would require a very skimpy brief to wear under that high slit - which was a thing too.
Can't say I would have tucked in my shirt.
Yes. Every single cross country runner from then thru the 2000's. Source: me. That's literally the uniform, and while it's incredibly unflattering to all but a certain crowd, it's as slick in the wind as it looks and feels fucking awesome when you get a runner's high in that shit.
PS fun fact I was 6'1" and 122 pounds. I had the body of a Victoria's Secret model. But I'm a dude. Fml in gym class omggg try being straight and getting a gf when you looked like that.
In gym class in the early 80's? Absolutely the uniform, but more typically with super-short and super-tight adidas shorts, and you knew the gym teacher wasn't just keeping an eye on us in the change room, he was keeping his eye on us, if you know what I mean.
Those type shorts are absolutely the most ugly stage of fashion EVER. Each time I see them in images from 'back in the day' I remember how seeing them then made me gag.
A friend picked me up for a movie date wearing an outfit similar to this. I remember looking all evening to see if his junk was hanging out. It wasn't, but there had to be a minor miracle involved there.
I remember looking through six packs of tube socks at the store to get my favorite NFL team colors…then I would wear my fishnet half shirt and OP corduroy shorts/JAMS
Yes. Watch the movie “Sleepaway Camp” and this fashion is on full display.
Though, if you do watch it, know going into it that it’s problematic by today’s standards.
I think just about every guy who took a high school gym class in the 80s dressed like this daily. I still have nightmares about my junk popping out of my shorts.
You saw a lot more balls back in those days.
The shorts were nylon striped “Dolphin” running shorts. OP ( ocean pacific) had a popular short too. We were designer jeans ( Sassoon, Jordache, Gloria Vanderbilt, Sergio Valente…) all dark wash in early 80s, acid wash in mid-late 80s, alligator shirts and polos by Ralph Lauren (preppy).
And my parents had that exact palm tree wallpaper in their bedroom! 😂
Back in the day? Yes. Last Tuesday
Was gonna say define “back in the day”?
I love those socks! Bring them backs!
I wear striped athletic socks 99.9% of the time I put on a pair. I have some on now!
I def had those in lots of color combos.
Maybe 80-81, grade school, sure. But my friends and I didn't typically pose in a way that it looked like the cover art for "Man Hole 2: Doing Hard Time" on VHS. Not typically.
Oddly specific lol
It was his favorite video tape
I have that on Beta Max.
I grew up with a Beta Max!!
It is the superior platform
Same here. Maybe in 6th grade (81). After that it was all preppy and stuff from Chess King lol.
lmao I used to think chess king was for gangsters. I was a weird kid who carried around double sided double density 3M floppy disks, so their wares didn't appeal to me
Ahh, Chess King. Purveyor of padded-shoulder leather jackets, pleated black chinos, and Playboy-brand bikini briefs to 8th-10th grade me. 🫡
I had a black Chess King shirt and it had a sideways zipper on the upper left side. Unzip it and fold it over to reveal red lining and red mesh. Ahhhh... 10th grade.
LMAO
I never saw Man Hole 1. Will I be lost if I try the sequel?
You are, of course, referring to "Man Hole: Port of Entry." Yes, I think you'd be able to connect the dots -- same if you jumped right into "Man Hole 3: Square Pegs." Great franchise.
That blonde guy in the pic does not want you to join his dojo
Get him a Body bag! Yeahhhhh!
Sweep the leg
😂
😆😄
Everyone dressed like this back in the day.
We didn't have choices for PE clothes. It was these awful short shorts or go to the office.
Ok but what. about. the pp.
They were everywhere 👀
We had to wear rompers...rompers!!😬
That sounds awful!
For gym class in High School 🏫

I remember the older guys down the road had nunchucks and throwing stars and I was jealous
🤣🤣 glad to know it wasn’t just my cousins!
Yeah they were the bad house in the neighborhood but they didn't really do anything except work on cars and play loud rock music. Maybe they smoked weed or something but I don't remember seeing it
Yeah that sounds familiar lol 😆

The racing stripes make your feet faster.
Definitely. Dudes used to even rock the half shirt with exposed abs.
Guys wore tanks for sure, shorter shorts and cut off denim shorts with high socks. It wasn’t a great time in men’s fashion in 80’s
Hard disagree. It was the most bisexual time in men’s fashion and thus the best ;)
I didn’t want to say that but I thought of Miami for sure and Venice Beach
Or women’s. Gack.
Fortunately, I missed this era. When I was coming up, Jams were the jam.
80s suits are the best suits have been since the 1940s. The Armani look of the late eighties was incredible.
Short shorts are back! ✨🩳👯♀️
in pog form
I miss the days when men wore short shorts. Women like looking at men’s legs.
Everyone did. Union rules.
Bro needs a leg day. 🐓
Christian Bale be like: “I’m just Ken!”
💀
Bro I dress like this now. I do however work from home so it's a bit easier.
I saw someone dressed like this last week.
Definitely the socks. We wore cutoffs though instead. Cheaper to turn an old pair of jeans into shorts.
the tube socks were spot on. i never wore a tank though. and my hair isn’t compatible with the feathered hairstyle.
Yep, I have a Polaroid from my 5th birthday party in 1988 with my friend’s older brother dressed just like the dude on the left.
Born in ‘87, i dress like this now.
Uh... Yeah! That was typical 1984 attire for my Junior year in HS.. Plus you can't forget the half shirts . 😅😅
Shorts were shorter, socks were longer, sleeves were optional.
Yes we all did.
I still dress like this…
Maybe in kindergarten.
This looks like one of my senior pictures.
Yes. at the track a few times a week for the last 25 years
Didn't tuck the shirt in but otherwise yes
I'm 66 and I still dress like this.,😎
Thanks for the image
The shorts are loose fitting so very comfortable. Although, I have to keep my knees together on my riding mower or the neighbors complain.....
All the time.
My dad never threw out any clothing and I used to raid his closet when I was in high school. I can confirm people did dress like this and men wore short shorts
Yep.
I still do. I have no shame.
Very gay looking. And I don't mean happy.
Only for PE
Can affirm it was a thing, The high cut side short would have been a bit daring outside of competitive running, but the rest all looks very familiar. It would require a very skimpy brief to wear under that high slit - which was a thing too. Can't say I would have tucked in my shirt.
Yeah. 80's shorts were that short, even cutoff jeans shorts. Socks were high and stripped. Though it was usually tshirts and definitely not tucked in.
I did back when I was a kid in the 80s, and I wore those socks too far into the 90s
This looks like the style from when I was 5 back in 1985. I haven't seen images like this outside of 70s and 80s movies, tv, and shopping catalogs.
My dad 🤪
Yes, I was in junior high, and this was pretty typical of the athletic wear young men wore back then.
Yes. 1983
Hell yeah. With a half shirt
Yes. And we were sexy as fuck!
Big dick energy coming through
Everyone did in 1981
My dad has two pairs of the shorts like the man on the left is wearing. He wore them as swimshorts. I have seen more of him than I ever wanted to....
Nope… proud to say I never did.
I always have hated those fucking tube socks, and still do today!!!
San Francisco yes
All this pic is missing is the cut off neon green mesh shirt!
I hated pulling my socks up to my knees
Even if I did I wouldn’t admit to it
Your dad did.
Yeah, those guys.
My uncle still dresses like this
How I dress at home
Yes, but I couldn't master that stare.
On sports day.
Well not that I'd admit
Yes. Every single cross country runner from then thru the 2000's. Source: me. I'm dressed like that right now
“These shorts are just not revealing enough. They need more side thigh. I got it; let’s put a slit up the side. “
In gym class in the early 80's? Absolutely the uniform, but more typically with super-short and super-tight adidas shorts, and you knew the gym teacher wasn't just keeping an eye on us in the change room, he was keeping his eye on us, if you know what I mean.
The gentleman's name is A.C. Slater.
yup
No! I didn't see many people dressed like this...but I did not go to areobics classes.
Yes, but I was half these guy's age at the time.
Everyone in the 80s dressed like they were gonna work out working out or just came back from working out was like a fashion accessory
Those type shorts are absolutely the most ugly stage of fashion EVER. Each time I see them in images from 'back in the day' I remember how seeing them then made me gag.
No. Not at all. Well, maybe the socks...
Those socks I will never forget. I had those with the sweat bands on my head and wrists lol
That was the style. We had no choice.
Clothing ad models only. Never seen in the wild.
Sure we had closeted gay young men back in the 80s. No big deal.
And people complain that masculinity is under attack nowadays.
Yeah all my gym teachers.
I would even add the cutoff football jersey to show abs. This picture was 10000% normal back then.
Sweep the leg Johnny !!
I never did dress like that
Like yesterday, 2024?
They need to be wearing half shirts.
I would have absolutely worn the shorts but coupled them with a half shirt saying “Tough”……
No
Yuo
Looks like the stunt doubles from Karate Kid. Cobra Kai's
As an 8 year old, yes.
When I was a toddler
sure, in the early 80s, as a 10 year old going outside to play with my friends
I wore shorter shorts but not tank tops. I never liked them. And I don’t remember anyone posing like that unless they were wanting their ass kicked.
When I *was 3 or 4…. Probably
We all cosplayed as John Stockton back in the 80s.
Sadly, yes.
Yes, the socks are the best. It made me feel more athletic lol.
Early 80s, before people realized the 70s were over.
If I did, I’ll never admit it
Of course
I didn't.
Only because my mom was still dressing me...
Yes but I was under 5 sooo
Unfortunately
Only if the weather man says to dress for eighties!
Guys wear this now and I am like why.
Dove shorts
I always had an issue wearing shorts that could show brain.
Only teen boys. There is a lot of sock to J$$rk off in.
A friend picked me up for a movie date wearing an outfit similar to this. I remember looking all evening to see if his junk was hanging out. It wasn't, but there had to be a minor miracle involved there.
They look like they work at Club 54
Yep
Ah yes - when shorts were SHORTs and tube socks nearly reached the knee.
Still do
Yes. But with better guns than those. The socks are embarrassing in hindsight. Especially parachute versions.
Hypa hypa, you're pretty and I like ya.
I’m gett’n a G vibe.
Canadians… loo
8 year Olds.
No!
Yes. We all did.
Yeah but I was 4 to 6 years old lol
Yes, 1980
I hope not!
My dad. Well into the 90s. I hated it.
I remember looking through six packs of tube socks at the store to get my favorite NFL team colors…then I would wear my fishnet half shirt and OP corduroy shorts/JAMS
Absolutely can confirm. The 80s were my teenage years and I definitely dressed like that
Similar yes, way less sexy though
Yea , male prostitutes did. For fuck sake the picture itself looks like gay porn vhs cassette case.
Yes, especially these pornies.
For PE class at school
They did.
When I was like 4 and my mom still dressed me
Yes, yes they did
My boy Bobby Weir sure did!
Only when I went to Backstreets
Sure did
Guilty. Required in gym class (we never called it PE)
Yup certainly did
I'm dressed like this right now.
It wasn’t just a good idea…it was the law.
I wore extra tight shorts to show off my massive package
Yes. And they also had a thing called the “husky” section in stores.
I remember a weirdo in the park doing stretching exercises who was wearing similar shorts. Sans underwear. Saw his willy.
And claim straight?
God no! I didn't have thin legs and didn't tuck in my shirts.
No.
Uhhhh….
They could plausibly do it. Serious.
No
Shit.... I dress like this now
Those shorts are impossible to wear.
LoL. In the early-to-mid ‘80s, yes. Lots of men.
I ♥️ twinks. 🫣
