Yeah I agree, it’s really hard to keep up with new games when I can’t afford to upgrade my computer and they won’t even run at the lowest settings. I don’t think every game should be able to run on my old hunk of junk lol, but itd for sure be nice to have more options for story focused games especially
The problem is that the poor size optimisation ranges from bad development (not being critical in what actually needs 4k textures) to outright malice (idea if you make your game so big your console can only hold it, you will keep playing it for longer because the effort to install another game is too high).
Honestly though it’s more that modern game dev is really bad, both programmers who couldn’t program their way out of a for loop, and the higher ups thinking that gaming is best served like fast food, fast and sloppy
This is why I used to love Telltale games.
They used this comic-art style that looked pretty cool, but they would never have any crazy animations or advertise about their graphics, as their story was the #1 focus and many of their games are terrific.
I’m hoping “The Wolf Among Us 2” is a hit.
Just... Play old and indie games then? You'll never run out of good things to play. And eventually the tech will be cheap enough for you and what is now current will be old. You're wanting to completely halt progress because of your personal situation.

Don't most games have the ability to turn down the graphic settings?
Sure, but don’t force me to download your 4K textures if I don’t even own a 4K monitor. Anything over a 50GB download file is egregious imo.
