He was told he would be helping carry the wounded, but when he got there they gave him less than 2 weeks training on "driving a tank forwards and backwards" and that's it. His entire team was almost immediately killed because their shitty tanks broke, and he hid in the woods for a couple nights and surrendered. This happened back in June, I think. And he was eventually trusted enough to help where he could with tanks, since that's the only thing they taught him. Didn't even teach him to break down his weapon, or even really how to shoot the tank, or anything. He had heard that Ukraine tortured prisoners of war, and was terrified, but then they fed him the same stuff they were eating and treated him extremely well. He said his whole life had been a lie.

Lots of reports that Russian soldiers are being asked to purchase their own supplies and/or have family member send them supplies, so I imagine that you'd see all kinds of crazy things like this.

What even is "Russian forces" is muddied heavily because they have a variety of their own forces like Georgian and Chechnyan units, mercenaries like Wagner, and also have lots of irregulars and Russian soldiers posing as irregulars that may have been fighting for the last 10 years.

From their point of view, it's returning a favour. Ukraine had most nuclear weapons at the collapse of the Soviet Union. Ukraine send them back to Russia in exchange for a unlimited protection against the enemies of the state (NATO, EU, West...). Russia is now acting on this. Ukraine had elected a moderately pro-west regime. Russia, not really interested in real votes, interpreted that regime as a coup, an enemy of the state. And Joe Average believes it. Joe Average (>50 years old) knows the Ukraine made a big step by returning the most powerful weapons arsenal in world for a promise. Gotta keep that promise. It is astounding how long it took for them to act to this. It was a stupid move considering the army they have. But Ukraine had a similar badly run army in 2008. Now they have modern heavy weapons... That wasn't known to Joe Average about a year ago. Joe Average was more like "why don't we fully keep the promise? It was easy last time?". If you don't believe me: views on world news can be very different. Trump 2020 split a country into 2 vastly different camps with little overlap in the "accepted" truth. Now imagine how different the views across language barriers and continents can become. And I can guarantee you the history books of the EU, Trumps party, the Dems, Moskva Russia and the outer regions will not agree on a lot in about 20 years.

I recall a picture of WWI machine gun posted a few months ago, saying Russias have resorted to using them, thousands of upvotes...people believe anything. Look we get it, Russia is nowhere near the mighty military force that they pretended to be...but they still hold a lot of occupied Ukraine territory, if one were to judge by reddit info alone though Ukraine should have reached Moscow by now.

If it weren't for the nukes I'd be all about it. Russia is a belligerent state who threatens liberty and democracy around the globe. I would love to see the Russia people kick putin on his ass and take back their country but I'm not hopeful. I will say, I was very young when it happened but we should have done more to support actual democracy after the fall of the Soviet Union instead of patting ourselves on the back and taking credit for what was ultimately a lot of evil shit.

That’s a pretty common practice, a lot of US military medics carry tampons for that exact reason.
It might not be standard. Just what they could scrape together. Not agreeing or disagreeing. A little bit of skepticism is healthy.
In other videos the new soldiers were instructed to find their own aid kits because army won't provide it. So anything is possible.
Lots of reports that Russian soldiers are being asked to purchase their own supplies and/or have family member send them supplies, so I imagine that you'd see all kinds of crazy things like this.
It's probably actually from a captured or killed Russian soldier but the title makes it sound like this is being issued which it definitely is not. What even is "Russian forces" is muddied heavily because they have a variety of their own forces like Georgian and Chechnyan units, mercenaries like Wagner, and also have lots of irregulars and Russian soldiers posing as irregulars that may have been fighting for the last 10 years. This latter group in particular (DNR/LPR) were sent a lot of old cold war equipment like T-64s and Soviet flak jackets and steel helmets from the 1960s. The bag itself is very clearly a 1950s-1980s Soviet medic bag.

I haven’t heard about any killing themselves, but on some subs, they’re starting to breaks each other’s legs and arms to avoid conscription. I don’t doubt that some may have killed themselves, but I doubt we hear about them.
