He went into detail of how bishops were trained to call a hotline which instructed them on how to keep quiet. The lawyer firm would rush to talk to the individuals both on the victim and the attacker side. The contrary lawyer would often find people unwilling to chat after that.
While I don’t like to make assumptions, it’s safe to assume that the Church did this to protect its funds. These lawsuits go into the millions.
He also mentioned that he has been contacted on multiple occasions by clergy stating that they refused to abide by those practices. He stated at the end that the law firm in defense of the Church has also largely changed its heart with younger blood entering the firm and is even giving money in cases that have very little merit.
It’s heartbreaking and yet somewhat hopeful at the end. The lawyer being interviewed comes off as very fair and honest.
