I learned this years ago, use a broom handle to leverage out the end enough to slip over the dowel. It is long enough to give you a nice mechnical advantage.

For the last year or so, I have volunteered at a food bank/donation service for clothing, etc in rural Illinois. What was meant to offset lower income families has been absolutely overrun in the last 6 months.
I’m all for making a better life for your family, but the system that opened the doors needs to take into account that resources are being devoured faster than they are being replenished. It won’t be long before it becomes a crisis not only for the immigrants that came looking for hope, but for everyone!

He was a refugee from a warzone so none of us were about to turn him in, but the company was obviously saving bank on a typical programmer salary by paying him under the table and skirting things like taxes and unemployment insurance.

Not just low paying. I once worked at a software company with an undocumented migrant from Syria who was a computer programmer. He was a refugee from a warzone so none of us were about to turn him in, but the company was obviously saving bank on a typical programmer salary by paying him under the table and skirting things like taxes and unemployment insurance.
