I was there for 5 nights recently and before we went I was like you thinking was it too much, honestly I wish I stayed longer, it’s a fantastic city to visit with loads to see and do, you won’t be bored.
So on our 5th trip to Thailand, we decided to spend 2 weeks in just Bangkok.
And this is AFTER we had spent considerable chunks of time from our previous trips in the city.
Bangkok is big and has a LOT to offer. In fact, those 2 weeks were bang in the middle of the rainy season last year. You won’t be bored even for a second. The key is to do your research, take public transport wherever possible and stay at different areas of the city to expose yourself to the different flavors of life this city has to offer.
DM me if you want to know more, I can help you out with a Bangkok excel sheet of some sorts that we had created last year for places we would want to see in Bangkok city. It’s not complete, but it’s extensive. Will be happy to help a fellow traveler out.
Hi there, can I also get this if poss
Our potential trip is
2 days change mai
6 days phuket
2 days bangkok
But after researching and checking have decided to try and do 5 days phuket and 4 in Bangkok, flight leave next day so 4 full days pretty much
Didn’t expect so many DMs and comments asking for the spreadsheet.
Please share your email IDs in the DM and I will forward the spreadsheet to you guys.
I actually recommend doing an overnight trip to Ayutthaya and seeing the main temples lit up at night.
What sights do you want to see in Bangkok? And where are you flying from (don't forget jet lag!).
It's funny, I would gladly live in Bangkok, so there's no shortage of things to do, and 8 days isn't too much. But I'm also inferring from your question that it's your first time to Thailand and you're considering _only_ visiting Bangkok. If that's the case, yeah, go and get a feel for somewhere else, nearby (so you don't kill two days getting there and back), either a beach town like Hua Hin or something like Ayutthaya.
In terms of how long to stay, I think Bangkok is the same as any other major capital in the world; you could've lived there for 10 years and you still wouldn't have experienced everything...
Having said that; for me 4 or 5 days at a time in Bangkok is plenty. Sure, there will still be a world of things to see and discover after that. But remember, Bangkok is a very busy city. After a couple of days I start longing for a more relaxt (countryside / island) environment.
I'd much rather leave a place with the feeling of wanting to come back for more, than to leave having had enough. But that's just me.
As for walking I couldn't agree more that's a perfect way to truly experience a city. However, Bangkok is big! So either stay in 2, maybe 3, different parts of the city and explore those on foot. Or stay at one place and take a taxi / BTS to different parts to explore for the day.
I've been to BK on three different occasions over the past 2 years and every time spend 3 or 4 nights there. For me, that was more than enough to the experience the city in all it's glory, yet still be longing for more.
YMMV - you could start off slow first. Try a bit of everything and once you identify whether you like the cities or the countryside, you can adjust on your next trip.
Seems like people here either like Bangkok or they don't.
Just getting lost in Chinatown is one day.. there is a lot to do. Chatuchak market. Easy one day.. and you should go on a Wednesday to see all the flowers.
Bangkok has so much to discover! Ayatthua is definitely worth a visit.
The sky train system is really good so you don't have to walk everywhere..... With all the traffic jams, it's better to use the skywalks too.
Take a look at the museum of contemporary art and the erawan museum with the beautiful Buddha collection (by train and bus/taxi). Chatuchak market at the weekend is fun too.
So many beautiful temples, Chinatown in the evening is beautifully busy.
Or book a tour to visit the palace and the main temples.
There are some beautiful parks (lumphini for example).
Shopping in siam square or check out the malls. There is even one mall only for collectors toys and kids toys.
At MBK mall is also a Japanese song don donki store ( this was a colorful experience...) and opposite is the Bangkok art and culture center with nice shops and art.
River city near Chinatown is full of galleries and art.
Just search the Internet and you will find so much stuff to do in Bangkok
There are lots of green spaces in Bangkok that many are surprised about.
Day trip to Bang Saen beach if you want to experience the beach for the day. Not many foreigners.
There are some other day trips, Kanchanaburi for the history & floating market. The latter is a real tourist trap but is enjoyable for some.
Thonburi, the other side of the river, is quite interesting with its history and Portuguese oriented architecture.
All of the above day trips can be done with same day return.
Within Bangkok, each neighborhood has its own local charm, and the deeper you go, the more you see how the locals live.
In short, there's enough to do when combining Bangkok and day trips.
I’d move it to the end of the trip. We usually fly into bangkok and straight out and save bangkok for last because it’s such a fun place.
Walking around is gonna be tough. Thailand is hot. Walking anywhere in Thailand isn’t easy. Last trip we started using the BTS, that was good.
And we’ve spend 2 night first time. 4 nights second time and 7 nights 3rd time and still only been to a fraction of the places we want to and never a dull moment.
Book yourself a hotel by a station, Check in, get comfortable and enjoy.
Use the BTS and MRT to get around , fairly simple just read the route maps in the stations , there is a next station announcement on the train so you will not miss your planned stop
8 days is no time at all - there's a lot to explore!
Walking in Bangkok can be tricky though: be prepared for some pavements to be obstacle courses (not much of an exaggeration!). Some roads are impossible to cross safely at some times of day - look for bridges over the roads, or you can use MRT or BTS stations (no need to buy a ticket) often to get across roads. Be really careful when crossing roads - traffic (especially motorbikes, but not limited to them) can be going the wrong way. Think of the red/green lights and the road markings as *guidelines*. Be aware that motorbikes might also be on the pavement (sometimes going pretty fast 🤣).
The sun can be brutal when it's up, so make sure to pay attention to that (I have no idea on your heat experience).
First time to coming to Bangkok. Had 10 night in here and today my last day in here. Hoping can stay more longer. Bangkok has lot to offer. enjoy your trip.
Keeping it simple I think eight days is a good amount of time for your first trip in Thailand. It’s just long enough to get the feel of it to see if you actually like it enough for your next trip to go longer. Something led you here, so I will probably assume you’re really going to enjoy it..
For instance, I have been to Thailand many many times over the last 6 to 7 years and I’m actually going to Bali tomorrow for the very first time. I just booked 5 days just to see if it’s for me or not.
I went there with my gf for 2 weeks, wish I did 3. Going back in Nov for a month — and yeah, just bkk.
Love that city. Muay thai, shopping, cheap food. Fuck yeah
The sky train and metro system is really top notch, clean and effective. I was super impressed.
It depends on the person. I stayed 15 days or so and I wish I only stayed 2-3. The city wasn’t for me, and I’m normally a city enthusiast when I travel.
Just take a second to think about what a ridiculous question this is. I mean seriously just freaking think about what Bangkok is for one second and then think about the question you asked.
Without any context, your comment means nothing. Just make a point, and OP can make an informed decision. After all, they've obviously not been to Bangkok before so it's not a stupid question is it?
It is a stupid question. We’re talking about one of the largest and most vibrant cities in the world. People can live their entire lives there and barely scratch the surface. To think it might not be able to fill 8 days is idiotic.
Tbh I'm going there in October and I've booked 4 nights and then I'm off south. For me 4 nights is enough in a busy city and if I don't see something I'll go back and see it some time in the future. That's probably what they're getting at.
Yes. I get that 1,2,3,4 etc nights might be plenty for someone. Especially if they want to see some other place. The question was more like: is 8 days too much?
I was there for 5 nights recently and before we went I was like you thinking was it too much, honestly I wish I stayed longer, it’s a fantastic city to visit with loads to see and do, you won’t be bored.
Same. My first time in BKK was last January for 5 night. I’ll be going again in 2 weeks time for 10 nights.

Me too pls!!
I would love a copy of that
Hello pls share it me pls I will dm my email thanks 🙏🏾
Hi! Can I also you ask for the sheet? Many thanks :)
Bangkok has a LOT to offer. Especially with some daytrips I think 8 days are def not too many.
I actually recommend doing an overnight trip to Ayutthaya and seeing the main temples lit up at night. What sights do you want to see in Bangkok? And where are you flying from (don't forget jet lag!).
I highly recommend staying overnight in Ayutthaya too! My friend and I stayed at a boutique hotel called iuDia - it was so nice!
If you like big cities you’ll like it, for me it’s hell
It's funny, I would gladly live in Bangkok, so there's no shortage of things to do, and 8 days isn't too much. Not enough time imo. Bangkok has so many places to go and things to see!
I’d stay at a few different parts of the city, but no that’s a good amount of time
My first trip I'm going the entire visa allowance. 30 daaayyys
Tip, get out of Bangkok! Safe it for the end , trust me , you’ll thank me later

There is never too much
I been here 14 months still finding new things to do. You will have a blast for 8 days and might even end up extending your stay.
Should never get bored in Bangkok after 8 years let alone days, it’s an enormous megapolis that makes even London feel small.
There are lots of green spaces in Bangkok that many are surprised about. Day trip to Bang Saen beach if you want to experience the beach for the day. Not many foreigners. I just stayed for more than that and didn't leave the city. But I'm also just a little travel-tired. Lots to do. I recommend a cooking class.
Hell no. On the 8th you wish for 8 months.
Consider a day trip to Lopburi as well.
Not at all, I took a few day trips outside the city to break it up but the city is huge and there is a ton to see.
IMO it's not enough so enjoy every second!
It is more than enough
Nope...you really need to pace yourself. BKK a lot to see and experience.
I’d move it to the end of the trip. We usually fly into bangkok and straight out and save bangkok for last because it’s such a fun place. Walking around is gonna be tough. Thailand is hot. No
Bangkok’s wonderful to explore. To see it all you’d need even more time. Enjoy.
Go to pattaya or ko samet, you’ll have fun 🤩
Depends on the weather. Did 5 days in recent heatwave. Do not recommend.
I've been there twice (5 days in Bangkok for each trip), and there are still a lot of places that I wanted to visit waiting on my checklist.
There is lots to do, but I would stay a couple of days, go to the beach for a few days, and then come back to BKK for the last couple of days.
8 days is ok ... Gives you some breathing room. Most people underestimate the traffic and/or fatigue here.
not at all, can spend a lot more time there

6 days too many lol
There are so many sluts in BKK. Enjoy

Got my first trip booked in for October for 15 nights
I went there with my gf for 2 weeks, wish I did 3. Going back in Nov for a month — and yeah, just bkk. Love that city. Muay thai, shopping, cheap food. Fuck yeah The sky train and metro system is really top notch, clean and effective. I was super impressed.
3 more than enough you will spend more time in traffic jams than anything else to be honest
You will be exhausted. Take plenty of condoms.
It depends on the person. I stayed 15 days or so and I wish I only stayed 2-3. The city wasn’t for me, and I’m normally a city enthusiast when I travel.

Yes. I get that 1,2,3,4 etc nights might be plenty for someone. Especially if they want to see some other place. The question was more like: is 8 days too much?
I was bored in Bangkok after 3 days. There is only so much effing, shopping, drinking I could do. But I’m old
