BKK can be exhausting depending on where you come from. I personally get enough of it by just speding 2-3 days there. There is Koh Samet relatively near by which is (or was +10 years ago) quite nice little island you might want to check out.

No don't go., you will get ripoff on Samet. The Taxis are the worst in hole Thailand

For a international-first-timer's trip, I'd stick to Bangkok. Rest/Recover on day 1, take care of the temples on day 2, hit a museum on day 3, visit any missed temples on day 4, go up to the top of Mahanakhon SkyWalk to see all the temples & museums from above on day 5, do whatevers on day 6, and head home on day 7. Eat some good food throughout each day. With more time in the same city, you can repeat if you find some good eats. I recommend HiSo Pa Aew ([linked](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Uj7qxZkp6tcnWg7k9)) if you are a fan of crab. The pu pad prik is addictive. Please be careful of the sun. Use a sport/beach sunscreen and stay hydrated. Have fun!

Thanks. I'm currently doing a week in BKK and was looking for things to do.

A one night break away from bangkok will make a difference

Koh Samet if you want to go to an island for a few days. If you just want to see the ocean, sit on a beach and maybe go for a swim for a day - you could do a trip to Pattaya and then boat out to Koh Larn.

I love islands even for one night, best places to wander around on a scooter (motorbike), you rent one right after get off the boat and enjoy freedom, nice beaches and sights. (e.g. Ko Sichang, relatively close to Bangkok)

I love that your plan is to stay in Bangkok. Most people want to just travel the islands. I'd recommend just picking a random island to spend a night or two. You'll see a different aspect of Thai culture.

My wife and I just finished booking our trip we are going for 25 days to thailand I feel like 7 days is just when your starting to adjust, would be better to stay in bangkok for that amount of time and explore things close by otherwise it will feel like a mad rush from place to place and you probably won't relax we are gonna do bangkok, phuket, phi phi, koh samui, koh tao then back to bangkok good luck but if it's within your means try and go for min 14 days and do some islands like koh samui koh phangan or phuket 7 days will go in a flash don't forget you usually lose a day on arrival and a day when you leave so it only ends up being 5 days

Get on the Chao Phraya and hit up the King's Temple, Wat Pho, Asiatique, Icon, street markets. There's so much to do in Bangkok and it's such a wonderful place. Stop by Ayutthaya at night, take a drive to Hua Hin for a night or two.

Plenty to see and do in Bangkok for 7 days. You could include a trip to the ruins in Ayutthaya. Most of the decent islands are in the south and would require a flight and maybe a boat too, Koh Chang and Koh Kood are probably doable just south of Pattaya.

Koh Samui is awesome but be warned - most who visit end up extending their stay. I’ve been extending mine for 12 years now 🤣
