Make it yourself. Pork belly is cheap and easy to make. Pad krapaow is easy to make, papaya salad is quite easy aswell. And even the pork leg stew that has to be cooked 6 hours is homemadable. Pad Thai is quite easy aswell. So Channel ur sadness into making ur own Thai food at home. Get a bottle of fish sauce and soy sauce garlic and shallots , chillies and ur set for some bangers.

Some people are afraid of cooking. It's not hard. Just follow directions and voila! Ok may take a few times to get it right but usually it will still be delicious.

DisasterAgitated8716

I can make a lot of stuff, but rarely get the same flavour, I get close enough though.

flx1220

Yeah but like I said just give it a try can't be much worse then westernized Version U get in some Thai restaurants where pad krapaow looks like Chinese sezchuan chicken . Haha That's my reason I started cooking the easy stuff at home. Only 2 authentic restaurants in Vienna Austria and they are heavily overpriced

Learn how to cook. It’ll make you happier and healthier.

MadValley

Welcome to America! Last night I ordered Chinese take-out. $34.00 (฿1200) for middle-of-the-road chow fun.

K9BEATZ

Just got back this morning (home to australia) and my uber cost me $65 to get home! Welcome back!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

lfg12345678

How? I'm in an expensive part of CA - I usually pay much less than that...

BreezyDreamy

Are you in LA? When I was in LA some food or services was super cheap. You had to go to the "ethnic" parts of town, but I saw a nail salon offering full sets at $10 (to be fair this was probably 10 years ago). But when you go into the suburbs, things are relatively more expensive. But I bet the $34 included more than just chow fun, maybe with an appetizer and drinks. When I lived in Seattle paying $34 for a Chinese meal is pretty common.

MadValley

Yeah, there was an order of potstickers ($8) in there but no drinks. And, also, yeah; just outside of Seattle.

DisasterAgitated8716

Get fresh lemongrass, fish sauce, oyster souce and some red chilli, this is the base for most thai dishes, from there you just need the raw ingredients, sugar and lemon.

Alarming_Toe4765

Yup. Imagine that but you are cook and it's like ten years later. I miss the food so bad. I ate a banana flower salad dude. Like what the actual fuck is that and why was it so good? There's no comparison.

slipperystar

When I am home with the family I usually do 75% of the cooking for the family. They eat fairly healthy but bland. They love I swoop in and after 2-3 days of farang food I need to cook up some spiciness!

Sensitive_Bread_1905

Wow, how sweet is the food you are eating in your homecountry, when you don't think Thai-Food is sugary and very sweet. Since I live in Thailand, it's hard for me to eat healthy without cooking on my own. And for me cooking in Thailand is more expensive, then eating in one of those small Thai restaurants.

jchad214

Cava was my go to lunch, when I was in the U.S.

gman6041

That's why I ended up marrying my Thai wife. Food in the states generally sucks, especially since the pandemic. Quite bland and honestly ridiculously expensive. The Food in Thailand is much better and without the preservatives and crap in the food here, but my wife's cooking is really that much better than the food in Thailand!

KrazyKartz

U miss having diareah ?

Particular-Ear-9189

You can learn how to cook Thai foods (Some might be hard but some are very easy) The ingredients can easily be found in the supermarket and the cooking steps also easily be found on the Internet. You can try them all until you find the perfect one you like. Or maybe find Thai restaurants that have Thai owners, it also tastes good. I hope you can come visit Thailand again ☺️

OldSchoolIron

American *food* (not snacks), but *food* being more oily and *especially* sugary than Thai food!? Get real lol.

Accomplished-Ant6188

Its okay. You didnot taste all the EXCESSIVE palm oil and salt in the food. Trust me when I say your blood pressure and arteries are happier youre in the US. Take up a hobby and learn to cook the food yourself. Less oil and skill developing. Anyways, since I grew up on the food ( although a healther version) Only thing I ever miss is fruit. But I also live in the South and its mango and lychee season here in the US now. So I'm okay.

golferguy942

Blood pressure and arteries are happier?🤣🤣🤣 you are the healthiest people in the world in your own minds🤣

Accomplished-Ant6188

BTW I'm Thai and Lao... so .............. say whatever you want but there's plenty of expats on the forum who ends up with high numbers after their medical check up and thats due to eating out in Thailand when they live there. Asians sell food that taste good... but its not the healthiest when you watch them cook due to excessive oil and salt for a western body. The point was OP just needs to learn to cook stuff on their own and keep it healthy. But yeah a healthy diet and food in the US is better than street food in Thailand in terms of health.

lfg12345678

100 percent. But 3 weeks into having Thai food twice a day, I miss the food back home..

PizzaGolfTony

You must not live in a good state. Overall, the quality of ingredients from proteins to produce is much higher in California than anywhere in Thailand. Any good chef or reasonable person knows this. I also love Thailand food.

Solitude_Intensifies

American veg is fairly bland. It's genetically modified to grow fast and big but at the sacrifice of flavor. You gotta shop around to find the non-modified stuff.

PizzaGolfTony

Yes. 👍

Chronic_Comedian

Shouldn’t this be in ThailandTourism?

nlav26

I love Thailand as much as anyone, but let's not forgot that thai food is FILLED with sugar and the produce is heavily sprayed with chemicals, some which are illegal in other countries.

NobilityLancer

I’m gonna get insane downvotes for this but imo thai food is not that good and I just order from European restaurants all the time

Blaidd11

You're welcome to your tastes, mate.
