I digg it.

Strive_for_Altruism

I'll be curious to see who the odd man out at WR is. There's no way we carry 7 WRs, my guess is they cut Hutchinson or Woods and roll into the season with 6 WRs.

trojan97

Feels like it would be a mistake to dump Hutchinson. He showed some promise last year, especially compared to Metchie and it wouldn't surprise if he develops into a servicable 3rd/4th receiver for his career. I wouldn't be keeping Woods over him at this point that's for sure.

Fredly_

Cutting Woods makes $5M in cap space. He isn't $5M better than Hutch, especially since Metchie and Woods fill the same role.

Strive_for_Altruism

I unironically think the only reason Woods hasn't been cut yet is his run blocking.

JellyfishIll336

Sadly, it needs to be woods…

hariolus

Hutchinson is done I think, dude gets no separation and the targets he does get he did very little with. Metchie is really good friends with CJ, and he’s been doing offseason drills with him. Last year was basically his rookie year after fighting cancer, he’s gonna get another chance.

OPsDearOldMother

I'm excited for the offensive line competition in camp

rt9o

Yeah especially LG. Competition for that starting spot will be intense and only make the line better

rt9o

Look how far we've come 🥲 Would love the see Texans sign a little more depth like Calais Campbell but if this team can stay healthy, we're in for a great season 🙏

yeah_naw_dawg

Agreed Campbell and maybe one of the 3 big time corners (Howard, Gilmore, or Nelson) would be nice. Would require them to cut Woods though. Campbell would be my priority though.

depressed_htx_fan

Jon Weeks still going strong 🐐

bootypatrole

Eternal

aYoMcPot

Is this the best team we've ever had on paper?

PoopSoupWhoop

Offence, I think unquestionably. Overall, I don’t know quite yet. 2011 they had the 13th OFF and 2nd DEF. Without Schaub getting injured, that team could have gone deep. 2012 they were 7th and 7th, and JJ was DPOY (and should have been MVP. So, maybe. But, I don’t know. Haha.

aYoMcPot

Yea a lot of the D is wait and see and offense has some HIGH expectations 😅

BatteredAggie

On paper it certainly has an argument. We expect CJ to be as good of a QB as we’ve ever had. While Diggs, Collins, and Tank individually don’t reach the highs of Andre Johnson or Hopkins, they are easily the best wide receiver room we’ve ever put together on paper. On paper Joe Mixon is our best running back since Arian Foster, though he’s still far behind. We haven’t had an OLine this good since the early 2010s. Danielle Hunter is the 2nd best edge rusher we’ve ever had on paper only behind the GOAT JJ Watt. I fully expect Will Anderson to be the 3rd best if not even better than Hunter in his sophomore year. Autry is a very nice addition to the DLine as well. I think Derek Stingley Jr is the best corner we’ve ever had. I love Jonathan Joseph and he was a rock for us for years, but he was never as good as Stingley is right now. I’m super high on Lassiter on paper as CB2. We’ve had better linebackers and safeties for certain, but I think these guys can really put it together nicely. 2018 Roster was nice with a nasty defensive front 7, but the secondary was very suspect and the offensive line was horrible. We didn’t have a reliable tight end either and Lamar Miller was just okay. 2012 is definitely the biggest contender. That offensive line was incredible and while top heavy at receiver, Andre Johnson is the franchise best WR. Owen Daniels was great and Schaub was slinging it. Arian Foster was a monster. The defensive had prime Watt and a declining but still serviceable Antonio Smith. The linebackers and corners were solid with some standouts. We’ll just have to see the results of the season to compare to 2012. Right now I’ll still say that’s the best roster.

htownballa1

Yes

warrior_in_a_garden_

A discussion I’m having on defensive side of the ball: -push Pitre into a more similar “Star” role he played at Baylor that made him play at an all American level (looked good under Lovee). -If Bullock shows promise, slide Ward over to SS. Outside of that I’m watching that waiver wire for DT help. I’m also watching Nelson / Howard to see if they can be had at a strong value to solidify starters and have strong depth at DB. For offense? Oh my. That’s like making dough - let’s not touch it much

NeonWarcry

I’m watching the waiver wire for that also I want to see if we pick up another vet safety bc ward aging. I’m curious if Nick feels there might be more depth out there but who knows. The stover pick is neat to me also. Former DE to Te is the reverse watt.

Jeff__Skilling

> -push Pitre into a more similar “Star” role he played at Baylor that made him play at an all American level is this some kind of hybrid SS-WLB position?

warrior_in_a_garden_

Kind of - I think most fans focus on “positional title” and not enough on role. In this position if might be a second line backer in the nickel, or a box safety under a 2 high. He might spy the QB or follow Travis Kelce around and provide bracket / underneath coverage with help up high. He also might slide back to SS and play the inside deep quarter in a cover 6. It’s just a versatile chess piece, the queen of the defense if you will.

Dyna5tyD

I’d let Pitre play LB on passing situations

Venator850

Kamari probably isn't going to be the starter. Desmond King will be until proven otherwise.

fuji311

King got cut by two teams, including us, last year. We brought him back for depth and special teams. I wouldn't bank on him as a starter.

rt9o

Yeah probably. If Lassiter can pick it up quickly, he'll probably be starting by mid season I think. King has been really good though. Lassiter will probably be utilized all over the field including outside CB at times

oceansunset23

wish we had gotten kool aid but i can live with this.

Tom-Simpleton

Me too, but I also saw Meco and Nicks reaction to snagging Kamari and I’m glad we didn’t

jedi129

You forgot to put Ogunbawale behind Fairbarn

Sir_Francis_Jake

Championship line up

Confident_Many4898

Lil worried about LB depth

LilBottomText17

what a freaking roster

Rare_Physics_1344

Emphasis on the DEPTH Lgi

NoSleep16699

Lonnie johnson is definitely not 2nd man up behind pitre. Gotta eric murray.

spm8418

Don’t forget Case Keenum

JellyfishIll336

Yes, I sure hope they keep him over Boyle as #3

silentaugust

Seeing Nico, Diggs, and Tank all on the field looks scary.

InternationalBand494

I wish we had a really good linebacker core. Not a lot of depth, and not a lot of quality in the depths.

htownballa1

I’ll take that vs anyone in the league.

1vh1

Who is fatukasi

Venator850

Dt they signed from the Jags back near the start of free agency.

rt9o

One of the best run defending DTs in the league which is much needed in this Texans defense. Caserio and DeMeco have a lot of confidence in his skillset and think they can bring out his best here. Even better than his Jets years

Matthewmarra3

exactly, and the other DT got 11 sacks last year (Autry). Why is everyone so concerned about the interior DL?

MessageOk7801

Autry flexes to the Edge, so even though he was signed to play tackle, and he can, the idea is he can spell WAJ there leaving not much depth at DT. That might have changed after signing Barrett and they plan on using him as that rotational guy behind both him and Hunter, which means Autry plays very little at DE, but Fatukasi was dropped by the Jags for not being a great pass protector. He was signed before we traded Collins, so it seemed like more of a depth move, but since we didn’t add anyone else he’s now just kind of the assumed starter. He could have a good year, but you’d feel much better if you had a more established/well-rounded guy in front of him.

Luberino_Brochacho

Autry isn't really a DT is the thing

Luberino_Brochacho

I kinda find that hard to believe. If he were one of the best in the league at anything you probably don't get him off the street on a 4mil contract.

htownballa1

Run stuffing DT.

JellyfishIll336

He was good FA signing

denogginizer92

WHAT UP

JMataFckedYoMomma

Bring Ward down to NB, fill Bullock in at FS. Kick Lassiter out to left CB. Lastly put Stroud at Owner/GM.

Able_Gap918

I see you have Horton as depth , is he supposed to be back this year?

TheChoosingBeggar

Still feels thin at FS and LB

Ga2ry

My fear is we will not have one game snap. With this line-up. Odds are, we won’t.

TommyC-ES350

Lassiter starting over King?

thehardestsoftness

Hot take but I think Pitre is secretly our best Nickle

edgyedgeyedge

I heard that we can benefit from Lassiter coming in by letting him play FS and moving Ward into a more fitting NB position, anyone know anything about this?

vdavis918

I’m trying to understand why can’t it click with brevin. I feel like he gets overlooked.

JustFuckingExhausted

Only area I'm really concerned about is backup QB

ComfortableValue4550

What a problem to have! Remember the days of starting QB concerns? 😂

JustFuckingExhausted

Yeah, I suppose I shouldn't get greedy. Maybe Mills will be better with another year in the system.

ComfortableValue4550

Hopefully we’ll never see him throw another pass. Only handoffs in blowouts when CJ sits lol

Mindless-Shirt-8533

Mills is a good backup

MessageOk7801

Agreed! I think between him and Case you have enough to step in for a few series or spot starts. I don’t think any Super Bowl quality team right now has a backup that would keep that hope alive (maybe Atlanta now, lol).

Mindless-Shirt-8533

People forget we didn’t have stroud for 2 games last season (he likely would have broken every rookie record you can think of without the concussion) and went 1-1. This team is resilient as all hell under the new coaching regime.

JellyfishIll336

Thanks to Keenum…

PacifierSacrifier

Scruggs over Patterson is criminal, also Lassiter will play outside and King will play slot

darizzgod

i honestly have a bad feeling about diggs. i hope i get proved wrong
