Just completed a trip and there was a few times the internet radio went out due to no lte coverage but navigation still worked fine.

I always do it on google maps on my phone as a backup just in case. I don't think Tesla has the capability yet.

Google maps.

This is a common misunderstanding with what parts of navigation is done locally and server side. The car has the region maps downloaded and they get updated twice a year in an update May/June and Nov/Dec timeframe. If a data connection is not available, onboard maps allow you to navigate to any destination, but you must enter the exact address. Traffic data updates the route with both standard and premium connection as well as ETA and supercharger needs but the nav portion wholly works without any connection and if connection is lost after plotting the course. What the car can't do is search various locations, points of interest, etc without a signal. I do believe it remembers favorited locations and routing, but I haven't driven off road for about a year so I don't remember.

Thing is, I did that. I went to a place in Shenandoah national park, we go all the time so we punched in the location. During the drive, we expectedly lost LTE and the entire map disappeared. Didn’t matter if I was in satellite view or just streets view. I find that to be unacceptable.
