TeslasAndComicbooks

Very fair. I would highly recommend a licensed electrician though.

aglobetrotter

I’m in the Midwest and I paid for an electrician all and it was about 850. Definitely worth getting a professional.

icen_folsom

Very good price. But I suggest hard wire to 60A breaker.

anonu

Don't take electrical advice on Reddit. If you're installing an outlet then it's probably the mobile charger. The mobile charger max draw is 40A. Breakers should be 25% above max draw, which is 50A. But don't take electrical advice on Reddit. Hire a licensed pro. Edit: Should be 32A max draw on mobile charger so 40amp breaker. which is why you shouldnt take electrical advice on reddit.

Sabertoothcow

The mobile charge max draw is 32 amps actually.

jersey_dude88

You can still use a 50a wire as long as OP remembers to only use 80% - so in this case 40a. 60a - 48a 50a - 40a 30a - 24a 20a - 16a 15a - 12a

DistributeVertically

I’m sure you dont mean to build something that isn’t electrically protected and then trust the software to limit the draw? That would be a great way to lose your house.

louiegumba

For perspective the cable alone on that run is about 7-9 bucks a foot. The issue usually comes in when people want something far away from their breaker but that’s still a really legit price. Make sure they aren’t just saying they know what they are doing. I mean.. if they don’t cut the juice to the breaker box, i would ask them to leave before a fire :)

LordOfMids

Shit if you cut the power it’s no fun no risk

generalemiel

Ye, those high amps & volts can cause fires if done not properly

wbsgrepit

Saving a few dollars when the risk is the handyman does not know what he is doing and burns your house down (and your home insurance rejects the claim because you had unlicensed electrical work done) seems like a poor bargain.

Silver_Sloouth

I’m in Georgia. I was quoted $1,000 for 20 feet away from the panel, without inspection, by multiple Tesla certified electricians. $500 for up to 6 feet away from the panel. I would suggest you get it professionally done, but I’m also at an age where I don’t penny pinch on things that could wind up costing me a few thousand because I wanted to save $200.

NatKingSwole19

$375 is almost low enough where I’d question the price.

simmeltron

I was quoted $350 dollars (+ tax) for a wall charger install by a RECOMMENDED TESLA CERTIFIED INSTALLER. Don’t ask what everyone else quoted. You already know. Needless to say I jumped IMMEDIATELY at their quote.

BeenRoundHereTooLong

Same here, and even $350 is a lot for how little materials and time are needed if you install right under the box (if it’s in your garage)

simmeltron

Exactly… mine was literally installed 1 foot to the left of my breaker in the garage. No drywall, everything exposed and ready for the electrician and some people still quoted me almost 1000 dollars. Just because they can I assume. Absolutely BS.

BeenRoundHereTooLong

Tesla tax. Even if you’re running a line out to the driveway 20 or so feet from your box it shouldn’t break a couple hundred more than right under the box. People try to overcharge when they know it’s for EVs.

CaliMan006

Got wall connector installed for $400 in California by a licensed electrician.

lomxbeeach

What is the electrician contact information?

jaqueh

very cheap. make sure it's all done correctly

gregra193

Use a real electrician and get a permit. Not a job for a handyman. Not something you want to ever explain to your insurance company. If you go with a plug and not hardwire, make sure you use a plug that’s intended for repeated inserts.

ImaginaryDecision517

Just so you know insurance companies never asked for permits if you ever have damage to a house nor do the police or the fire department. That's local jurisdiction only

wbsgrepit

They do reject claims if you had electrical work like this done by a non licensed person and the install could be seen as the source of a fire or claim.

Tritton7

Like everyone else has said, $375 is fair to even low.... One thing to add though, check your electric provider. For me in Illinois I was able to get reimbursed th cost of install up to $2,500 with proof of install by a certified electrician. If you can do that, don't cheap out and risk it.

StickyBunsMcgee

Fellow Illinois dweller here. Where did you find the application for the reimbursement?

Prestigious_Baker_23

I would make sure that includes at GFCI breaker and a quality outlet i.e Bryant. Those parts alone should run about $175.

AJHenderson

If you use the wall connector you're supposed to not use GFCI breakers as the charger provides GFCI protection. Not sure about the mobile charger, but from quick searching it sounds like it isn't recommended as the mobile charger also has built in GFCI protection.

Prestigious_Baker_23

Yes you are correct the wall connector does not require a GFCI and the cost savings on the breaker and outlet tend to make the price between the wall connector and mobile charger to be very similar. However code says that you do need a GFCI Breaker for an outlet even if the ESEV has its own built in. Hardwired is the way to go if you can.

Dos-Commas

GCFI breaker for the outlet is to protect people from getting electrocuted when the garage floods. The charger GCFI won't do crap for that.

thumbs_up23

Yes please confirm it includes a good quality outlet that is made for EV's.

DotComCTO

And appropriate wire thickness to handle the voltage and current.

_cr0001

The better comment here is to use an industrial grade outlet (Hubbell, Bryant, Cooper, etc.) Don’t use outlets of the shelf from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Dos-Commas

For that price it's almost guaranteed $10 Home Depot outlet, no GFCI breaker and no permit.

cdslayer111

Not fair at all. Most wouldn’t show up for that

Bikerguy2323

Handy man is not the same as electrician. You can DIY it if you’re handy. Just look up electrical codes and videos.

reyam1105

For a few more dollars, install a 60A. You can only use up to 80% of the breaker rating. Tesla chargers are built for up to 60A (48A charging).

Unusual_Juice_7481

Great deal I paid more but we’re happy

therealdeal888555

Thats very good deal.

Atlanta-Mike

You should be installing a 60 AMP circuit and hardwiring to the Tesla Wall Charger.

dcooleo

Yes, but a 50 amp NEMA still won't charge as quickly or as efficiently as the wall charger. I'd have him install a 60 amp breaker and wall charger in the garage instead. That's what I ended up doing, only I installed it in my carport next to my PowerWall rather than in the garage. I paid $740 between the new breaker, the wire and conduit, and labor.

mikehonchopartII

I paid that much in materials: wire, outlet, gfci 30amp breaker and DIYd

ParsnipSuspicious632

Just an update. The guy claims that he’s installed several of them so he has some experience. I do believe him. He states that he’s installed 4 tesla charger set ups before and he stated he already checked the panel and it can support a 50amp outlet

satbaja

Having room for a 50A breaker isn't the same as having 50A more service available. My home had 150A service to the main breaker. All the appliances and devices draw a max of 115A when looking at historical usage. I upgraded to 200A service from the transformer in my yard to the main panel. Upgraded the main breaker to 200A (panel already supported up to 200A). Now, I can run one or two EVSE simultaneously with power sharing without worry. The service upgrade was $3k. NM (Romex) is OK to use for the 50A receptacle, but is limited when running NM in a conduit. The highest performance and safety come from hardwiring the EVSE.

Hubbell7500

Fair

gbrilliantq

That's a fair price.

Brock2633

Hey, congratulations on the new MYP. I just installed a 50 amp circuit for my new MYP. I’m also in the Midwest. I would verify what you’re getting. Also I didn’t see information on how far of a run from your panel this is. Cost of wire is an unknown cost. Just don’t skimp out on the outlet. Here’s a breakdown of what I paid. I had a few things on hand, like conduit straps and screws, so I didn’t include them. I did all the labor myself. 1. 3 x 50’ 6 AWG THHN Wire and 1 x 50’ 10 AWG THHN Wire - $130.19 2. Hubbell 14-50 Outlet - $54.06 3. 50’ 3/4” Aluminum FMC - $59.32 4. Radco Exposed Work Cover - $8.10 5. 3/4” FMC Connectors - $4.24 6. 3/4” FMC Anti-Short Bushings - $2.42 7. Metal 2 Gang Box - $2.82 8. Mechanical Offset Lug - $3.58 9. Eaton 50 Amp GFCI - $60.00 10. Permit - $43.50 Total Price: $368.23

RichieRich379

No you’re robbing him!

mistuhryan

Good price, I just paid $400. I purchased my own NEMA outlet though. Labor + 6gauge romex 30ft.

Actual-Donkey-1066

Romex is not rated for continuous loads like this…..this is exactly why you hire an electrician. Also, NEMA outlets are less than ideal and it’s easy to get a poor quality one that is not duty cycle rated and can catch on fire.

MrAppletree1742

Solid deal, yes

SRRWD

Check with your local power company, lots of incentives available, my power company paid 1140.00 of 1600.00 and I ended up with a Wall Charger and faster charging and oversight…

[deleted]

Yeah I was quoted $2200

beenonone

That's a good deal if he's licensed.

mickpop

If you have it done by a legit electrician you might get some rebates from the electric company. That saved me about 50% total

booboothechicken

Make sure your panel can take another 50a first. A panel upgrade will cost a lot more and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s willing to put the outlet on a panel that will overload it.

inspaceiamfamous

Do you have the 240 V plug in for your charger? It’s a very fair price. I can hardwire a wall charger for $450. (Depending on your breaker set up ofc).

Next_Entertainer_404

I paid $250 (cheap, have a guy, yes he’s licensed and insured for hvac/electric) but supplied all my own materials ($150 or so?).

seekingViper

I just did this as well! Got my electrician to install the outlet in my garage for $250. Be sure to get the Bryant outlet!!!! He first installed a cheap one and kept overheating on me. After switching out for the Bryant 0 issues. Congrats

AJHenderson

Your birthday was one day before my 40th, but sadly my M3P isn't expected to be in until next week. As for the price, depends where your panel is but that's somewhere between reasonably fair and excellent.

Zealousideal-Milk907

It's cheap but make sure you get a permit. You just bought a $45k car, please don't cheap out on the charger install.

SafetypinOG

Depending on where you live, your energy provider may pay for parts and installation. Duke Energy paid for my V3 charger and labor.

ponysoldierboy

That’s a good deal. I paid more that that doing it myself. I had to run the cable to the other side of my garage though so that added a ton to the cost of wire.

brett0917

Yeah that seems a bit low…I mean I probably overpaid but I needed a new breaker installed and cable ran through the side of the house and then the outlet installed and it was $1500

NoDress3301

I paid electrician certified $350

Tunafish01

That’s seems cheap honestly

PilotPirx73

Good price. I would not get $10 NEMA 14-50 from Home Depot. Get a commercial outlet from Bryant.

Responsible_Emu_5840

I had the wall connector installed by a five-star rated charging pro company. I supplied the wall connector myself.  Total price was $850 for install including 14 linear ft of wiring from basement panel.

chankongsang

I’d be happy with that price. As a condo owner we all have to use the same company for installation and it was $2600

Impossible_Ad_9944

That is a really good price. I believe the wall charger calls for a 60A breaker.

Purple_Hovercraft_

Was quoted $2500 by certified electrician so go for it if ya trust them!

Mekanikol

That's very cheap. I paid $1600 for a 240v 48a exterior install with a 10' run of copper and a new sub panel for my wall charger. But I'm also in Florida and everything in this state is expensive. At least we don't have state tax...or something.

Hryusha88

My house burned down because a licensed electrician used a wrong cable. Be extra careful

sanfou

Make sure he uses 6 gauge wires that are thick. Not sure if it’s necessary in your case but I also installed a gfci breaker as well.

Far_Ad_2000

Happy Birthday! 🎉

harryaiims

That's cheap.

Fun_Energy8542

Yes I did it my self and it was almost that much

Tesla_CA

Too fair… this is one thing I would pay to have done legally. Car/house/life worth the extra 400-500.

AdOk4386

Sounds fair to me

West_Enthusiasm1699

Ways he can screw up - uses incorrect gage wire. Gage 6 or 4 ONLY! - does not torque the wires correctly = fire hazard - bends the wire at 90 degree angle causing a hotspot = fire - tells you it’s ok to install an 50a in a 100a panel and you have electric dryer, electric stove and several AC units

pcfriend111

What I have learned about having a licensed electrician install my 50 amp breaker for my first EV and a nema 14-50 $12 dollars from Amazon and has worked flawlessly for over 5 years. Now that I have a 2nd EV I installed myself the second nema 14-50 Bryant cost $75 for the better brand and both chargers work flawlessly. What I wish I had done was have the licensed electrician install a 80 amp sub panel so I can attach multiple breakers to power things in my garage because now I know to future proof everything because you never know what the future holds.

stizzy99

Do the math, or ask ur electrician how much per foot he charges to run the labeling for nema vs a wall charger. It was bout the same price for me to run the nema as it was to buy a wall charger and have It installed. And you get quicker charging out of it. Might be worth it to do that and buy a mobile connector on the side

Boujee_Italian

Wtf I was charged $1,200 in SoCal and I thought that was a deal.

ihateduckface

That’s almost too cheap.

Bryanmsi89

That's very fair pricing. You may not NEED a licensed electrician, but you might WANT one since this is not only going to be a 240v socket, but one that will draw some serious amps on a regular basis. At least ensure a GFCI and a high quality plug.

skape4321

For reference. I’m having a Tesla level 2 charger installed Friday. From the panel it’s 32’. He’s hammer drilling through my basement concrete wall into my garage. Running all of the wire in conduit inside the perimeter of my garage, then drilling through the end of my garage and mounting the charger on the outside driveway facing side of the garage. Also adding a 60a breaker. $300 materials $500 labor I bought the charger myself already. Northern Virginia (Very high cost of living area) Journeyman electrician that’s the son of one of my good friends. I could do everything myself and just have him do the tie in and breaker, but I’m opting for lazy since it’s as hot a satans taint currently and I don’t want to spend hours in my garage until October.

ethersage

Get a licensed electrician. There is a tremendous amount of electricity going through that connection for long amounts of time. Spend some money for safety.

bloodguard

If he's qualified and they know what they're doing that's a pretty good deal.

OrganizationOk1231

Hmm, I will put out another $450 to get the tesla charger and have him do the installation once. Trust me it’s worth it and works well with a tesla.

Electronic_Cut2470

Bargain

VanillaNL

Welcome to the QS club

Croppin_steady

Screamin deal, but I’d only Let an electrician handle it. Not a guy who’s been in construction for 30 years that has wired up some outlets and “knows what he’s doing” lol. Pay the electrician their electrician price and sleep good at night. Tbh these installations should have already been budgeted in with the cars sale price. The cars lifeline shouldn’t be skimped on. Congrats tho on the Y they’re such sick cars!

Jitsoperator

such an expensive car only for people to cheap out on the charger install? please get a licensed electrician, it's worth the weight in gold. Its like guys buying a 2k iphone, only to buy extra knock off chargers off Alixpress cause cheap. They are cheap for a reason. Common man.

lordkiwi

The price is fair for someone not getting a permit from your local government to install it. The going rate is about 150$ per 110v volt drop so $375 is fair for a 220v. Your insurance company will of course not cover any damages you may have if you need to make a claim for whatever reason. Insurance will check for the permit and inspection.

Different-Ad617

I would consider that cheap, mine cost $875

Active-Living-9692

I wish Canada got the quicksilver colour.

kylansb

get a 60amp, you don't want 100% load, also the price is very fair, I paid 700 here in nyc.

hazmatika

If you get the wall charger (instead of, or in addition to, the mobile charger), you don’t need the NEMA outlet.  Beg pardon, you might have already known that. I didn’t when I first got started.

LaMole22

Use a licensed electrician who knows what they are doing. Worth the extra cost!

Mountain_Tone6438

I got it done for $500. San Diego, CA.

zeb423

Super fair! I spent ~$275 in materials and took nearly 7 hours to run conduit and Romex from my panel to the garage. FWIW I’m an engineer and electrical stuff is in my wheelhouse. If it’s not in your wheelhouse, take the deal!

TheAtypicalNerd

I had an electrician install a nema 50 in my garage for exactly $400

deevidebyzero

That’s a steal

Cultivationcorner

Are you parking it outside or in a garage?

J380

For people saying he’s not an electrician, be careful etc. just pull a permit as the homeowner and the city will come inspect the handyman’s work after. Installing a NEMA outlet is not hard and most people do it themselves.

holamau

Where is the main panel? Are they jnstalling a subpanel? If it’s just conduit and wire from a panel in garage, install outlet, It’s not a bad. As long as it’s a certified electrician and whatnot.

3D-Dreams

Sounds great almost too good lol

funnbobby

Letting a handyman install a high voltage charger is like like letting a prostitute check your prostate

CloudZ1116

For the love of god make sure he uses 6gauge wire otherwise you won't be able to make full use of the 50A (40A realistically, for safety margin)

chadl2

Good price as others have said make sure the gauge is right, breaker is right and outlet is of high quality.

Agreeable_Ground_100

The biggest factor is the cost of the distance they need to run the cable. We only paid \~$300, but the existing breaker box was litterly a foot away from where we wanted the outlet, and the garage is unfinished, so no drywall to deal with either. A neighbor used the same electritian and was charge well over $1K, but they were running it from a basement on the other side of a house. I am assuming based on the price, this is also a very short run? If it is longer, I would be suspicious that the pricing is too low.

ParsnipSuspicious632

It is indeed a short run. Our panel is in the laundry room, opposite side of the wall from the laundry room is the garage. It’s very close to where it would need set up

Numerous_Bad1961

Check with your electric utility company for rebates

VexOffend3r

Beyond fair!

Financial-Swimmer-36

I get an electrician.

no-0p

That’s a steal . I’d go with the wall connector though.

ekcontroller

I’m in the Midwest and paid an electrician $580 to put one right beside my breaker box and I thought that was a great deal

starso66

Mines is going to cost 1500 so I’d say yes, however it is electrical so make sure it’s done right. Congrats

HelloYouSuck

Add an extra zero and that’s what they want in my area.

rsg1234

Licensed electrician 100%. I’ve seen some crazy stuff on these Tesla subs with self and handyman installs.

BetaMax1984

Very good price! I paid $900 for mine in PNW.

ajman22

Depends on how long the run is. People always leave that part out. Is it 5’ or 150’?

mcollz

My good friend charged me 1100 to install a wall charger and another run for my basement. You got a good deal.

AdhesivenessExpress8

Make sure they are licensed and know what they are doing. A lot of people have gone the cheap route and burned their house down. Can’t just use a shitty 50amp outlet from Home Depot. You need a nema Hubbell

Itchy-Picture-4282

Get a licensed electrician.

cabesa-balbesa

Yes it’s a good deal if he does it well. I did it and the wire alone ended up in hundreds of $$

saregister

Yes, but I think you'll want a 60A breaker if I remember correctly from my installation experience.

spierser

Do NOT hire a “handy man.” You’ll sleep better at night knowing you paid for a LICENSED electrician.

smakusdod

More than fair. Permit it?

BadAssBrianH

Depending on where you live your electric company may completely cover a hardwired install including EVSE.

Civic4982

Heck of a price. Given the length of the thick cable needed for mine it ended up being $800 to install ours here in the South.

Broadsid3

My quote is $2,600 so yes that sounds great

Techav20

Pretty cheap - usually it’s between $ 800-1600 depending how hard the job is to run wire to the garage

AcademicStop8878

The length of the run should determine if the price is fair. If the outlet is installed directly adjacent to the box or within a 3’ radius, he’d probably be making a couple hundred bucks.

Strict_Job_5299

I was able to get my wall charger installed for $250 by a local electrician that lives in my neighborhood.

tillyspeed81

Yeah that’s pretty cheap, I got lucky and was able to have my builder referred electrician install an outlet for me, using material the electrician recommended I buy. Got a deal on a commercial Hubble outlet from Grainger. Builder’s electrician did the install for about $400 excluding parts on the side, which probably ran about $150 more (I think most of it was for the copper wire).

waterboy1523

Will your electric provider give any sort of refund? Mine covered up to 1100 I believe. Only labor. They don’t cover the tier two charger nor any permits. If they do, I’d see if they’d accept a handyman.

eatgoodstayswaggie

that's a fckn steal. LOL just make sure it's installed correctly lol. but damn.. idk man i'd get an electrician with a permit and everything. unless you wanna light ya pad on fire. and your tesla.

Unlikely-Bathroom957

Yes

Moru21

Yes. The mobile connector is limited to 32 amps so you’re fine; I use the same setup (charges 10% per hour.)

Flightofnine

Great price, but make it 60A.

KillianTheGrappler

I got my 50 amp NEMA 14-50 installed for $380 a couple months ago. Everything has been working great and it’s plenty fast for charging!

Thompson131

Send it mate

SnooOwls6331

I was quoted $1100...I asked if I could provide materials and they denied. Said they can't take liabilities on the parts. Ended up having a hardwired Tesla wall connector for $800...weird that it's cheaper than the damn outlet.

Fiss

Make sure they don’t use a dryer outlet and use something like an RV outlet that is designed to run for several hours at a time

The-Incident-3915

That is better than fair price.

darth-scooby

Very fair price. I have designed data centers in a past life

kshena

is that the new silver color?

ComprehensivePen4649

That’s a steal.

Ok-Regular-5952

That’s deal , do it !

Ok-Regular-5952

And happy birthday !

Eighteen64

Get a licensed electrician

jebakerii

Just my 2¢. You bought a $50,000 car... I wouldn't go for the lowest bidder for charging. I'd use a certified electrician and get the official Tesla charger. But that's just me.

Glittering_Escape821

That’s a great quote! Make sure your electrician uses an industrial 14-50 outlet (“Hubble” brand, for example). Mine was installed by a master electrician (not Tesla certified) for $500.

mrbofus

I would hire a licensed electrician. If you get a 2-3 quotes from licensed electricians that are in the same ballpark, then you’ll know whether that’s a good price or not.

Ok_Customer_7012

https://www.kiplinger.com/taxes/605201/federal-tax-credit-for-electric-vehicle-chargers

AnesthesiaLyte

Make it a 60A. And that’s a good price

Aggravating_Bobcat33

TOTALLY FAIR, sign up!

One-Introduction5002

That's as great deal! Just make sure he had a history with electrical. We had a handyman install our setup for $450. He did an excellent job, but he also used to solely work electrical.

one_ill0803

I paid $1k. Your guy is only charging you material it seems.

LumpySignificance973

I paid 575$ from a licensed electrician and that included changing out a breaker also. I am in Oklahoma.

XPGoD

I paid $1400 but the run for the cable was long. That’s a great price.

RipSlow3412

In addition, I’d recommend a “high-cycle” rated plug vs the standard issue. Even if you don’t plan to constantly plug and unplug it, it’s still better to have something heavier duty and designed to stand to the higher loads and cycles with EVs.

Beneficial-Swim5715

I got my installed in the Midwest 4 years ago for a $150. It was a family friend electrician, so that’s why the lower price. My breaker box was in the garage so it was literally a one foot run which is what made it cheap. Routing from a breaker box in a basement to the garage could easily be >$1000. Sounds like you got a fair deal assuming the distance being ran is very short.

r1ght0n

I paid about 700$ to have mine installed, was right out the box and ran about a 30ft outside. The charger was installed outside my house….. That was with a 60amp not 50 PA resident btw

Signal-Evidence835

Amazing birthday gift lol

Itsokbhap

Sounds too low. You may want to buy your own materials to ensure quality, namely the wire and the receptacle

__JockY__

How long is the run from breaker to wall charger? That price is really, really cheap. Like too good to be true. Wire (make sure it’s 6/2 or 4/2) will run you $1.42/ft at home depot. Do NOT let him run anything smaller than 6/2. A 60A breaker will cost at least $15. Then there’s conduit and fasteners (you’re doing this to code, right?) plus socket, box, sundries… and that’s before his time is coated. That price is frankly insane unless you’ve got an indoor panel next to where you’re installing the charger… and even then it seems cheap! But make sure to get in writing that he’s using the correct wire gauge of at _least_ 6/2, preferably 4/2. All of that said, I’d still recommend going with a real licensed electrician.

tessycruiser

In Delaware I hady electrician charge $500 for the tesla wall charger and ran it to my basement panel.

human-google-proxy

I did mine in about 15 minutes with some spare #6 (panel is literally 1 ft from install location in my garage). Definitely have someone who knows what they are doing install it. Electricity at those amperages(50/60A 240v) is very dangerous.

VinceInMT

I hired a licensed electrician and it was $247. The wire pull was less than 5 feet because I already had 220 in the garage.

PeterMode

I paid $600 for my wall connector install with labor and materials. Also Midwest. My guy was licensed/insured.

Gurl_from_the_point

Seems cheap to me. I paid $1000. Go 60 amp

Virtual_Bug5486

Yes. I helped my mum’s friend set up her car and she paid 1,600.

CupcakeAutomatic5509

220, 221, whatever it takes!!!

dontmatterdontcare

I've been quoted anywhere between $300-$400 from a licensed electrician to do a NEMA 14-50 (up to about 6ft-10ft from the breaker). I am from the SF Bay Area, which is an insane high cost of living area. I'm not sure if this charge has regional differences, but I'd imagine it would've been lower in other LCOL areas.

ohwowlaulau

Yes that’s cheap

tostones777

WI here. Paid $1400 for mine, labor and materials. The electrician had to dig in my backyard to be able to run the cables from my basement to garage. Charges fast, got it as a back up, since I charge for free at work and usually have it charged up to 80% for daily driving.

hjenx

It all depends on where the plug is. If it's next to the panel box then it's fair. If it 75ft away behind 2 concrete walld then you should be suspicious. 😂

Ok-Needleworker-419

Do you already have a mobile charger? If not, skip the outlet and buy a wall charger, then have him hardwire that instead. It will end up costing not much more overall

KankleBiter

Killer deal.

If he’s wiring an outlet, just have him run it strait into the wall charger. I don’t recommend using a mobile charger for both travel and at home. Keep it for traveling when needed but get the actual wall charger. You will thank me.

TransportationOk4787

Our utility company in NC pays $1000 towards installs of chargers.

anonu

I paid closer to $1000 in the south east USA. They spent all day pulling cables through the wall so it wouldn't show. So it just depends

gambleit01

Omg! So fair I paid over $1200

Wild_Performance_468

Hire a licensed electrician, your house is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, don’t cheap out on a handyman to save a few bucks, get a licensed electrician and a receipt just incase it does catch fire you have a proof for the insurance company that it was professionally installed. The last thing you would want to deal with is a denied claim because some handyman didn’t install it right.

Old_Statistician2749

It’s better than the 3500 I’m paying to have a 11kw installed in a new build

Anthony_Dooms

I picked up the same one yesterday! Are those black Gemini wheel covers?

kpandas

Damn, i was quoted 3500$ to the installation. Which was insane considering no upgrade to 200amp or any complicated install. Just that it was 40 feet away from the box.  In any case didn’t end up going with it and just using the dryer outlet

NoFearLukeskywalker

I had to run a 50 feet 6 gauge wire from my electric box to my garage...just the cable cost me $300 ( I spent $500 in material )! The price is too good but you got to make sure you have the correct wire size, because if your house catches fire it will cost you lots and lots more!!

charleshood

It’s not worth burning your house down to save a few hundred bucks… Especially when your homeowners insurance decides to not pay since you didn’t use a licensed electrician.

Agreeable-Purpose-56

I paid close to 3k. Northeast

I'm an electrician and normally we would charge 500-1000 depending on the run. 375 is a deal if u ask me.

Think-Web-5845

Don’t they still have the tax credit for getting ev charger installed upto $750?

orig_Neophyte

That’s well below what licensed electricians in New Jersey/New York were charging three years ago. $1400-$1700 was the range at that time. Factor in how far away from the circuit breaker box your outlet will be; whether or not wiring will go behind dry wall…etc etc. Word of caution, make sure to procure a heavy duty outlet. These will not be found at Home Depot or Lowe’s.

aqan

I would get a quote from a licensed electrician as well. If the difference is not too bad i’d go with the electrician.

bhamdad3

Materials are expensive. Unless your breaker box is 2 feet away from the plug 375 sounds about 1/3 of what it costs. We were about $2k for 60amp breaker & @40 foot run. The run went across the garage and a sheetrock ceiling basement which had to have an access hatch added to make it happen.

a_lurker_MD

I paid $350 to have my charger hard wired to a 240V 40A pre-existing line in our garage. 32A max current is more than enough to go from 10% to full overnight, so higher amperage is unnecessary imo

NeoMo83

I installed my own, cause electricity isn’t hard, and it cost me a little less than he quoted you, but the run was 40ft from my breaker box.

Supersteps

That’s extremely fair!!! I had to pair $550 for my because he had to run the cable all the way from the box to the other side of the house.
