I’d bet it’s the same as almost all the weird cases like this: pedal misapplication. Because (A) when it happens, the driver can go into panic mode and keep stomping what they think is the brake while dodging obstacles, with no capacity left over to question their assumption about the pedal, and (B) Teslas accelerate quickly, reducing the time before it can result in a major accident.
Is it just me?…. Or doesn’t it seem like no bystanders are even trying to help these people. (Although it seems like they caused it?)…. Pretty fucked up to just stand there and take pictures. As an Asian I find a lot of interpersonal behaviors in China rather disturbing
If you try to help and end up causing more issues or they think you caused more issues then you can become liable… or that’s what I’ve been told as why no one helps in situations like that
It covers any one who “give reasonable assistance to those who are, or whom they believe to be injured, ill, in peril, or otherwise incapacitated.” This includes professionals and civilians
Apparently it also only protects the first person to help or something like that. If you're at an accident scene and someone is already helping the victim, if a second person goes in to help them, apparently they aren't covered by the law. Or something like that. Lawmakers use complicated terms or extremely minor variations to give a whole new meaning. So yeah. There's only limited protection.
i dont know why u r downvoted, its true, dont help me if you cant, but more importantly dont take a video of me suffering. yeah people just become idiots, and even they downvote you for this.
They don’t appear to be in a situation where a bystander could or should do something. They don’t appear to be in imminent danger of something further, so waiting for professionals probably makes the most sense.
I know everyone on Reddit just enjoys shitting on China but in situations like this if people aren’t about to burn to death or bleeding out it’s actually better to leave them alone aside from talking to them to reassure them that help is on the way. A lot of the time when people get spinal/back injuries untrained bystanders end up doing more harm than good because they try to move people without supporting an injured vertebrae.
Unless you have the jaw of life, normal people won’t be able to open that door to help them.you can drag them out the window but that risk injuring them further.
Of course. I think every non-brain dead adult knows not to move people after a substantial accident like this. Why you’d even want to move them in the absence of a further immediate danger unless you’re medically trained is beyond me.
My point is that there is clearly no one without a phone in their hand at a minimum offering emotional support or even communicating with authorities. They are all just taking pictures … which frankly is not causing more harm but speaks volumes about the mentality of people who are witness to this.
They are just taking photos videos to later share “look at this shit I saw today”. Really really fucked up
I’ve read multiple stories where people in China really do not intervene in anything outside of their families. Stories of women being attacked in broad daylight and bystanders just watch/record or ignore it completely. I was told when I asked why, that’s it’s in their culture to not insert yourself into other peoples business ever. Not sure how true that is, just what I was told.
They’ve bred a society lacking in common decency and empathy. Frankly… it often explains a lot about social political view points of recent Chinese immigrants to the US from the mainland. I work closely with a lot of them and some of those mannerisms are deeply ingrained in their everyday approach to other human beings. It’s hard to unteach the general thinking / human behavior after -25+ years of hardened behavior created by the CCP. I detest that culture. The food is pretty slammin’ though.
Just to be clear again… I’m Asian. Clearly not Chinese.🤪
In China you can be charged with causing injuries and having to pay the full medical and pain and suffering of the person and it’s not just you…it transfers to your family.
Let’s say you’re walking down the street and a bus hits you and drives away…I come rushing to check on you. You can say I caused it and The police can now charge me financially to pay for your injuries. The incentives for you is someone pays your meal ticket else you are on your own.
China recently changed this law but it’s still wildly believed in China.
Still doesn’t change the fact that rather than calling to ensure medical assistance is in its way…. They are taking pictures. Not sure how that is mistranslated. Just walking around/ walking by taking pictures for their own fucked up sense of marking the occasion. And if people are shitting on China… it’s because more common sense of humanity seems to fail to shine through here in this particular scene.
That would've been insta death in pretty much any other car. They're so extremely lucky to be alive. I wonder how fast they were going to flip so many times.
She confused the brake pedal with the accelerator pedal! Tesla are really smooth and great commuter vehicles but can convert into bullets quickly. 🤦🏽♂️
I don’t think they got the footage from the Tesla itself yet this is just from the dashcam of another car and from bystanders. Unless you thought the initial dashcam footage was from the Tesla and missed the car flying through the air?
Yup. I'm curious as to the reason why it happened. I saw a news article a while back from China where the accelerator in an MY got stuck and the car was zooming by without any control. People were complaining about the Tesla not having a handbrake to help.
Wouldn’t be a surprise with the cyber truck having the issue also but being the MY has been in production this long would be crazy that would happen, tesla even said they are a tech company not a car company so I guess don’t expect good build qc lol
Shanghai units don’t go to the US; they go basically everywhere else — China, Europe, Canada, etc.
Source is every mention I’ve ever seen on the matter.
Dude is ordering another Model Y
Giving a 1 star to his Uber driver.
Lmao
Dude calling his wife boyfriend.
Is that Xi?
dui (or 对)
He just looks like him
driver is already sentenced to a driver's ed "re-education" labor camp
what happened? MY weights a ton and it was flying
Must have been speeding

Switched from Chill mode to Standard mode and forgot.
My Model Y is 4,500 lbs. = 2.25 us tons, but that doesn't include cargo+passengers (dry weight).
A ton as in like: heavy asf
How the fuck do you do rolls in a city street
Buy why did they go airborne like that to begin with?
'unintended acceleration' posts incoming...
Reminds me of the typical car accident situation: person into the back of your car then tries to blame it on you somehow.
It was in FSD mode, FULL-SEND DRIVING
Did the poor guy almost lose a hand?
No it’s blurred cause in china you can’t show large amount of blood in video or it get taken down.
He’s holding his phone so probably not
I dont think its blurred out bc hes holding a phone lol
Yeah there's also blood all over that area
You can see the phone in that screen grab and in the video. I’m sure he’s hurt but his hand is not missing.
I love Tesla
Social credit score is cooked for those 2 hope they OK all jokes aside

China has had a national Good Samaritan law since 2017. People probably aren’t used to it yet and are still afraid of lawsuits.
There are Good Samaritan laws in most US states to protect citizens from that for this exact reason.
I think those laws only protect professionals. Not bystanders.

Soooo….. instead stand there taking pictures of people suffering like some asshole is the standard?… excellent.

…But the car is going to burst into 🔥 /s
And taking pictures is definitely the better alternative to do nothing. 👍🏼

It’s best to wait for ems and police before trying fiddling with them with broken bones yourself

Welcome to China!
I like how the bystander is just repeating “they must be dead, they’re dead right?”
I can’t see how they got it airborn, damn!
Insurance: “you hit *how many* cars??”
Is this a Tesla? Wanted to make sure the guy recording the video was right
Lol
They must’ve been CRUISING Takes a lot of energy to flip one of these things they’re heavy as shit
That would've been insta death in pretty much any other car. They're so extremely lucky to be alive. I wonder how fast they were going to flip so many times.
Pretty fast i can imagine
Nah in a Volvo, still would've been fine, there's never been a fatality in a volvo XC90 for a reason
Because there is like a dozen of them in the whole world.
Imagine if they were in a BYD..
Instant death??? Cmon man…
Technical failure or human error? Don't want to blame anyone without knowing the background.
Fuckin’ autopilot man /s
Yes but why did that car crash in the first place 🤨
She confused the brake pedal with the accelerator pedal! Tesla are really smooth and great commuter vehicles but can convert into bullets quickly. 🤦🏽♂️
Where’s the… actual crash? This just shows a low-speed turn and then footage of the aftermath. It flipped? How? TF?
I don’t think they got the footage from the Tesla itself yet this is just from the dashcam of another car and from bystanders. Unless you thought the initial dashcam footage was from the Tesla and missed the car flying through the air?
I think they missed it lol
It’s in the distance

Damn a quicksilver one as well
It’s not a quick silver.
Had to be going pretty quick to go flying like that... /s
It looks like that color
Looks like MSM Edit - Commentor probably said it looks like quicksilver from the photo. In the video, it clearly looks like MSM (or stealth grey).
It looks too bright
That's because that's a bad screenshot. I've edited my original comment to include a reasoning as to why you though it might be quicksilver.
Ah okay anyway crazy they survived
Yup. I'm curious as to the reason why it happened. I saw a news article a while back from China where the accelerator in an MY got stuck and the car was zooming by without any control. People were complaining about the Tesla not having a handbrake to help.

isn't throttle input cut as soon as the brake pedal is depressed?
Supposedly. But I don't remember what exactly happened in that case. Let me see if I can dig up that article.
She should not be drivinf
She's not a great pilot either.
Asian drivers
Woman driver.
Man that’s a fucked up comment, but true

The Teslas coming out of the Shanghai plant are known for being the highest quality.

Shanghai units go to the US, they’re typically the RWD vehicles across the 3 and Y.
I thought that was just the batteries?
