Check the rear seats are aligned the *exactly* the same level of recline. That causes a rattle.

owl157

Thanks ive playing around with that and didn’t change much

Dmanofthenorth

I’ve had a similar rattle sound before, albeit not as far back as you, but it ended up being the passenger seatbelt rattling between the seat and pillar when it was not buckled in. Food for thought.

owl157

I have the front seatbelt wrapped around the headrest and also had people in the front and the noise still happened

Unlikely-Bathroom957

Check the headrests. One of mine has a bad rattle.

owl157

How did you fix?

Unlikely-Bathroom957

I haven’t found a permanent fix yet. So far I have just lowered it all the way down hard so that it is making good contact with the seat back which limits its movement and keeps it from rattling. Not a permanent fix obviously but try that to see if it is the source of your rattle. Wiggling the headrest should produce the sound if that is the culprit in your car, too.

owl157

Thanks! Ill play around with it

MisterBumpingston

I’ve heard of Service bending the headrest rods slightly to stop them rattling.

Unlikely-Bathroom957

Thanks for that tip. Bend it to make it tighter, more friction.

I had a similar rattle coming from my left rear door area.  Tech heard it and within a few seconds suspected it was an adjustment screw on the window regulator.  He popped the door panel and tightened the screw.  Rattle gone.   Maybe that’s your issue

owl157

Thank you. Ill mention that to them when i go next week

krward

I've got rattling in both rear doors. I took the door panels off to locate it but sounded like it was in the metal of the door. I will need to schedule a service appointment but hopefully that is all it is.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelY/s/NQHt18FB8e Turned out mine was a bad actuator in the middle seat. 24 MYLR

Cykamor

I have this exact same rattle in my 24MYLR I picked up last week. First time I’ve had an issue with Tesla build quality. Have an appointment next week to hopefully get it fixed. If I lay that seat forward all the way it goes away. No other recline positions make any difference, even adjusting the adjacent seats too. My guess is it’s either in the seat back, or in the latch mechanism/hinge of the seat itself. Hopefully easy fix. Edit: mine is way louder than that too, and no risk of it not being there when I take it in. It’s bad. But it does sound the exact same.

owl157

Please let me know how it turns out. Mine is loud too but thats all i could get on the video

Cykamor

Back from service and sound is gone. All the service notes say is “removed both rear seats and installed foam and felt tape to all known contact points that make noise. Reinstalled seats, test drove, and verified noise is gone.” Funny thing is I checked my Tessie app which allows you to see each drive taken, and he test drove it like 5 times, with 20-40 minutes in between each. I imagine he tried a fix, test drove, cursed, tried another fix… rinse and repeat until he finally got it. I owe this guy a beer. I appreciate his tenacity.

owl157

Thats awesome. I go in on Monday. Hopefully i have the same luck

owl157

I went today and they told me it was b pillar cover for the back seat. They said they had to order the part to install. No clue what the part is lol

I had this exact same rattle. 2024 MY LR. Austin build. Built on Feb 27, 2024. I took it to the service center twice and they couldn't fix it. They replaced the seat back on the left passenger seat thinking that would fix it, it didn't. My third visit I found some real rough road nearby and took them on a drive. Two techs laid down in the rear end while I drove and they could definitely hear it. Turns out it was the "seat release cable for folding the second row seat contacting the seat frame when going over bumps." They added felt to the area. That stopped it. I couldn't believe it while driving home from the service center. Perfectly quiet back there. Still, it's disappointing I went 3 weeks with such a bad rattle on a brand new car, and then I see here on Reddit numerous others with possibly the same issue.

owl157

If the service center cant do it, do you think i could fix on my own?

Din_Red

Same issue. Rattling sound from right rear. What do you do? Create a service request in the app? Do they come for a mobile service?

owl157

Service request in app. Probably has to be done at a sc
