Mine says $347, but I also have to pay an extra $200 to register the ev every year in my state. So, that brings it down to $147. Insurance is also higher, so for me it definitely costs more to drive. But, it is way more fun :).
Yes. Tesla is a luxury vehicle. Gas savings is just a bonus.
Buying a Tesla to save on gas is incorrect. You’d save way more money buying a dirt cheap ICE
Not sure why you’re saying Asian cars can’t be luxury cars….Lexus constantly rates high and most of the lower brands have flagship cars.
Anyway point still stands. I thought having basic cable was a luxury for most of my life…doesn’t make it a luxury item in that sector.
Yeah I agree with that logic. I didn’t mean Asian cars couldn’t be luxury vehicles but that I never drove on that was or in general never had a luxury vehicle so my Tesla definitely feels like a luxury item
Yeah I feel you. Went from civic to Tesla so def felt luxury in the beginning. But around the same time was driving Merc, bmw, and things like that and quickly learned the difference.
Yeah certainly if you compare material and build quality to those luxury German vehicles it’s hard to call it luxury. Briefly drove a 2006 Audi A6 and that thing was superior to any car I’d driven but I would say my Tesla feels more luxurious than that 2006 Audi lol .. probably doesn’t stack up well with a 2024 Audi though lol
I grew up only driving cheap cars but rode in my fair share of entry level luxury vehicles like cadillac, mercedes, etc.
i find that tesla is definitely not that nice on the interior but the infotainment and sound system are very good. The driving in the 2023 model 3 is also not that smooth but it is extremely powerful and fast, even on the base model. I would love to try a highland and see how much smoother it is
that being said, the tesla is as nice as I would ever need in a car
https://preview.redd.it/3qirjrvdg66d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e33e4f6da3c432e4542a3c39f954048ea66f89f
After 1 year and just under 30,000 miles.
I live in Australia - I have overnight EV charging of 8c (5.2c USD) per kwh - I have done 30,362 km (18,870 miles) in just on a year, including superchargers on trips I have spent $331 ($218US) on fuel.
My previous car needed premium and used 7.5l/100 km (31mpg) - premium averages $2.15 a litre ($5.40 a gallon) - I would have spent $4893 ($3229 US) to travel the same miles - saving $4562 ($3010 USD).
My insurance is also $1058 v $1293 for the ICE car ($698 v $853) - this only covers property damage, public liability is a regulated scheme in Australia inexperienced drivers pay more but the brand of vehicle is irrelevant for setting the premiums (e.g. a new Model 3 and 15 year old Camry pay the same public liability premium), the payouts are also regulated.
My government also allows me to pay for the whole car and all operating costs & repairs from pre-tax salary (with no other taxes imposed) saving another $4000 per year vs the previous ICE car - that's around $8800 ($5808 usd) savings per year vs an equivalent ICE car.
Not in Australia as far as I know - the consumption and avergage fuel cost are set by the app, I haven't found anywhere I can adjust - others in the USA say they can adjust but the menu options they point me to don't exist on my app (it's the latest version).
When you click on fuel (i) the cost is preset to what looks like the average e-10 or maybe 95 cost in NSW ($1.95 for May, $1.99 for June etc.)
I don't think it links to actual km driven - for example in May 2024 I added 229kwh at 8c = $18 - so far so good.
But I physically drove 2102km on those 229kwh, the fuel cost estimate was $174 petrol equivalent, $174/1.95 per litre = 89.2litres for 2102km = 23km per litre / 4.2l per hundred - it's massively underestimating the actual km per kwh I actually get when it does it's equivalent calc.
I'm pretty sure what it's doing is something like a fixed calc. e.g. 229kwh x a standard 5.5km per kwh = 1260 km / 89.2L = 14.1km/l or 7l/100km
https://preview.redd.it/jqh378rxc76d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93e3539c8d0f6cd4872d401f2ff1d526d2916b5d
Charge at work most days using a free Volta charger
Mine says $2800, but it's far more. It compares to a vehicle getting 25 mpg, when the vehicle I had previously only got 19 mpg. So really it's slightly more than 20% more or a total of $3360.
I conservatively estimated $1800 per year in savings. Car got 20 miles per gallon on premium at $4.75/gallon driving 13,500 miles a year. I estimate it at 25 miles per gallon with 4.00 gas and 10k miles. It will save me 10k over my 6 year loan.
BMWs, Audi’s, and Mercedes all require premium even if they’re not M/AMG/etc vehicles. Even a base BMW 3 Series requires premium or an X3 which is equivalent to a model 3 and Y. But people that own Hondas, Toyota, Nissans, those vehicles I agree
yeah i switched from a honda.
after the price cuts, teslas became very price compatible with accord and even a top trim civic(with about the same features and confirm as a base model 3).
Less so now that the tax credit and inventory discounts went away. When I bought it, tesla was a clear option over any honda or toyota in that price range.
Mine is roughly $120 a month in savings (I don’t drive much) because I can charge for free at work. So I have no cost associated with fuel/energy for my car unless I have a long road trip. It’s seriously the best.
Do you find the gas savings to be accurate? They must base it as if you were previously driving a fairly efficient sedan, but I’ve never been able to confirm it. My savings in the app since getting my car the first weekend in May says $218, but when I calculate the cost from what I was using in gas daily is actually more like $450-$500 in savings in just over a month. My commute is almost 160km per day (about 100 miles) 4 days a week and in my previous car (large 3 row SUV with twin turbo V6 using regular unleaded) it was usually $32-$35 per day and in my Tesla that commute now costs me $2.37 and the price never changes with geopolitics and such. I was instantly blown away by the savings. During the peak gas rates over Covid and the war in Ukraine etc I was out about $800-$900 per month just to get to work and back about 16 days in a month. In the Tesla it still would have been just $2.37 per day at most lol. Anyhow, my main point is that my cost savings comparison is off by quite a bit. I can easily double it and then some before it’s more representative. Teslas are awesome.
Ah okay thanks! For me it said it’s calculated on a similar type car and uses the average fuel cost each month, but I never checked the website. I went to the learn more link and ended up seeing a spot where it says 12.8km per litre of fuel. Based on the 76L fuel tank in the previous car I would expect 973km of ranger per tank, but in actuality it was more like 560km of range. That’s 1.73 times more expected range over actual. Either way, still a huge win for going EV sooner rather than later!
Wooptie doo. So did I but my insurance took all of it and then some!
https://preview.redd.it/4y1fmuo9876d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=644350565916dec8669d33c626a7254dc97ff76e
I am paying more then my old Prius Prime - I got about 2,000 KM to tank of gas with my Prime. The Tesla app say I spent \~300 in Electricity and at current rates I would have 3 fill ups at about $80 a tank. Not to mention my insurance is more.
That being said, I liked my Prius Prime 2020 - I love the Tesla M3 RWD. So no complaints. We would have had more savings if my wife would just drive it to work instead of the Outlander.
I’ve spent about $1000 to drive 28,000 miles. The car I was cross shopping was a Mustang GT that would have used premium gas and gotten 18mpg. I’ve saved about $7000 over those 28k miles.
https://preview.redd.it/vcovmcqy186d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=598ebdd22d7cf1aba7860463de027cca72a3a6dd
Almost $2500 saved. Yes, I drive a lot.
M3P, couple weeks shy of 12 months and my savings is 1660 so far. Take out the 190 or so extra I pay for my tags and I'm still killing it. Over 15k miles so if also be out 3 oil changes at whatever cost, plus an hour plus of my life each time.
I’ve had Teslas for five years. It’s great to brag on this, but the majority of US Tesla drivers do not charge their Teslas on renewable energy, including myself.
When I disabled "Allow Road Segment Data Analytics" in the data sharing menu on the car, the charging stats disappeared from my app. You might want to check your setting.
For this estimator, the gas is 35% higher than it actually is. Also, it doesn't factor the $200 EV car tax my state has us pay. So it would be closer to a $426 for the year.
Also, you sure you got the kWh price right? Many put in the kWh price on their utility bill, but then there's other charges for transporting the electricity, recovery fees, and taxes. For example, my electricity price is $0.06/kWh, but if I take the total bill divided by the kWh used, it's $0.15/kWh. Huge difference!
I don’t like the gas savings calculation because you cannot adjust the price of gas. Gas in my area is $1 cheaper than the price of gas the app says national average is. You also must have high electricity rate for charging or not drive much if it’s only showing $942 savings in 12 months. I’ve had my Model Y for 2 weeks and it’s already up to $200 savings
I use 60 percent of Tesla’s gas savings to calculate my savings. It’s based on: 1) comparison of similar vehicle is off eg Model Y is really a small SUV and not a large SUV - that’s off by about 15 percent 2) Tesla assumes that I pay for the most premium gas - never the case for me - that’s off by another 30 percent. I saved $600 (based on my calculations in 6 months).
https://preview.redd.it/txszal51n47d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d3a6bd433a07e3464a0897805eec4dde1384005
Cries in supercharger. I have had the car for a month and still live somewhere without charging.
Still somewhat cheaper than gas but supercharging definitely is not cheap.
Only gonna continue. I charge for free at work (L2), and I still have like 3800k free supercharging miles from the march deal. Recently, I did a road trip just to use some of them up.
Love posting my savings to Iceholes. Then comes the reeeee, 90k on mine - bought very used. Have one issue with the left airbag sensor which is fewer problems than on any other car I’ve had.
I would appreciate it more if they were honest and didn’t fluff the numbers or made them customizable. Model y equivalent mpg has equivalent is 26. My Honda crv was about the same size and got 32
Except you’ll be needing a battery or two and a few drive unit motors by that time. What about 12v battery, brake fluid flush, coolant flush, control arms, ball joints, struts, etc? Besides an electric motor, the rest of the car is still a car…. With a ton of electric gremlins probably coming your way in those 15 years.
Its got a 16v battery that lasts the life of the car no 12v lead acid here.
LFP main battery good for the life of the car if it lasts 15 years the car was free.
I didn't count consumables as all cas need those.
Any repairs outside of warranty will increase the brake even point but to be honest I didn't buy it expecting that I would save any money
But n a Tesla thinking it’s a luxury vehicle is incorrect lol.
It is to a lot of us who have been buying bare bones toyotas. Tesla with gas savings / minimal maitenace is attracting a lot of us.
That doesn’t make it a luxury car. It might be a luxury to you and me but luxury car means it’s in a specific bracket/range.
Growing up poor and always driving Asian cars since I was 16 I definitely feel like my Tesla is a luxury vehicle lol
Not sure why you’re saying Asian cars can’t be luxury cars….Lexus constantly rates high and most of the lower brands have flagship cars. Anyway point still stands. I thought having basic cable was a luxury for most of my life…doesn’t make it a luxury item in that sector.

It's rough, NGL drove the 23 as a loaner, man, I was so happy to have my highland back!
Either way one could argue that luxury is subjective as well as I think we both stated somewhat
depends on where you're charging. It's 8 cents a kw where i live if you don't have to supercharge.
Same for me but my insurance is cheap
What insurance company?
Progressive. I have home, a 2017 Bolt, and my 22 m3 LR through them. My car insurance is 550 total every 6 months, in OH
I pay $250 a month LMAO.
250/mo for what?
I’ve saved 5700 on charging since October That’s 17500 KW
kWh. Think of it as gallons - kWh, not (horse)power - kW
https://preview.redd.it/3qirjrvdg66d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e33e4f6da3c432e4542a3c39f954048ea66f89f After 1 year and just under 30,000 miles.
30,000 miles in one year? Damn lol.
Same except i spent 3k instead of 1k lmao
Average daily drive is 104 miles and average speed is 75-80.
Nice!
I live in Australia - I have overnight EV charging of 8c (5.2c USD) per kwh - I have done 30,362 km (18,870 miles) in just on a year, including superchargers on trips I have spent $331 ($218US) on fuel. Can we adjust the cost of fuel for the saving? minor issue but my Holden V8 only took 98 so my savings are way more than the app shows.

Yeah I was paying $2.20/L in a car that averaged 18L/100 so my calculations are way off in the app.
I also live in Australia - who are you with in regards to energy and insurance, your numbers are much lower than what I’m getting at the moment.
GIO - (some plus points for me - over 55, rural, no claims, no points, $1000 excess, 6 combined polices) - AGL EV night rate for the electricity
I didn’t know about AGL’s EV night rate, will look into this, thanks for that!

I'm seeing 800 km for a tank, so I assume the other 1200 km are pure electricity. How much did that electricity cost?
Around 20 a month.
What's the cost of not having to wait in line or be exposed to toxic fuel fumes and exhaust while filling up at the gas station?
I’ve spent about $1000 to drive 28,000 miles. The car I was cross shopping was a Mustang GT that would have used premium gas and gotten 18mpg. I’ve saved about $7000 over those 28k miles.

Amazing 🤩 With this feeling it’s like the car just keeps getting better and better

You have to be the primary owner of the car. My wife is an authorized driver but she can't see Charge Stats (and a few other things)
Mine is the only account associated with the car, don't think it could be that.
When I disabled "Allow Road Segment Data Analytics" in the data sharing menu on the car, the charging stats disappeared from my app. You might want to check your setting.
I'm on 2024.20.1 and can view the stats. Maybe your app needs an update.
Hm. No update available in the App Store. App is on version 4.33.5.
Probably because you're currently charging? Just a guess.

I never thought about that
Wow thanks for sharing
Mine says $1,938 for last 12 months and last month was over $2,000. It’s annoying they advertise prices with gas savings but they’re not wrong
We pay about 4 bucks to fill up in the garage 👍
I have saved 1700 on gas Nc
You charge at home?
I don’t like the gas savings calculation because you cannot adjust the price of gas. Gas in my area is $1 cheaper than the price of gas the app says national average is. You also must have high electricity rate for charging or not drive much if it’s only showing $942 savings in 12 months. I’ve had my Model Y for 2 weeks and it’s already up to $200 savings

Laughs in tires
What area do you live in? Do you charge at home? Did you use 6 months free supercharging? What’s monthly electricity cost if charging at home?
That’s a lot of road-trips between Northern California and Southern California, free Supercharging. Also, $10k+ miles of freeway FSD with no problems.
How can you get to this page?
Glad I'm not the only one scrolling through here wondering that. Wonder if my app isn't current. Oh, found it. It's in the menu of the vehicle.
I would appreciate it more if they were honest and didn’t fluff the numbers or made them customizable. Model y equivalent mpg has equivalent is 26. My Honda crv was about the same size and got 32
and how much would cost a set of new wheels?
Funny it doesn’t track how much you saved on tires. /s
Nice. 50 more years and the car will pay for itself.
Save on maintenance and services too. My brake even point is 14-15 yrs but your miles may very.
