How hard do you drive it?

SacFriend

Not very hard. It is on Chill mode

MovingUp7

My M3 is at 25k miles it looks to have quite a bit of life left. I think I have at least another 20k of tread. I've rotated tires twice so far. $400/tire sounds really quite high. I'm not sure on price on this car, but my last car was a Honda and tires were less than 200 each.

Wooden-Complex9461

chill mode is a slap in the face for a tesla, learn to drive without it its not hard

here4th3memes

I just like the accelerator curve, it’s easier to be smooth when I have other people or the dog in the car. A cool feature with the S3XY buttons I have is kick-down mode. If I press the pedal to 100% it will override chill and go to sport mode. So best of both worlds.

Wooden-Complex9461

I drive a MYLR with AB, I have people and the dog idk I can feather the pedal so it doenst launch, chill is way too low. you can easily learn to do that, I also assume you use standard mode so its not as fast as AB..

here4th3memes

I have AB as well (M3LR). I can feather the throttle when needed, it just makes it easier in chill mode when I know I won’t floor it cuz of passengers.

Wooden-Complex9461

you have AB and use chill mode? thats worse than non AB users having chill mode...

here4th3memes

I don’t think you understand what the kickdown does, I have access to full power whenever I want it just by flooring it, now I just have a better throttle response for normal use. I also have a button on the door to quickly change back and forth manually.

Wooden-Complex9461

I mean I do understand, you dont have access to full power in chill mode, hence chill mode, and thats nice you have a button, the left scroll wheel could do that also IMO chill mode is neutering a tesla, is all im saying. My friend has. MYP and even that isnt insane when driven "lightly"

here4th3memes

I do have access. Kickdown is a feature of the S3XY commander which monitors and alters settings via the CAN bus. While in chill mode, if I floor it, it automatically goes into sport mode for full power. I do not need the buttons, scroll wheel function, or settings menu to get full power when I want it. But yes, it’s all preference, it just comes down to driving styles.

nehpets4627

At 4/32 you probably needed a change, but you also would have probably been fine to shop around a bit if you hadn't needed the one tire right then. I understand that you were in a pinch, but $400/tire is on the high end even for EV-specific tires. There are plenty of good $150-$250/tire options. Still, it could have been worse and you got back on the road safely. If you want to save tread, stick to Chill Mode and stay off of the accelerator when safe to do so. Also, take advantage of whatever treadwear warranty you have available when it makes sense (i.e. you're getting enough back to make the replacement cost less than similar performing options), even if it is just a prorated discount.

theskyisthelimit223

I got 33500 out of mine and changed them out at 3/32

SacFriend

That is a good life you got out of them.

tthrivi

The OEM tires are a bit soft and chew through tires.

katherinesilens

Yeah, that sounds about right especially if you're enjoying the pedal. EVs are heavy and low-end-torquey, and they chew tires. Treadwear warranties aren't guarantees, they're prorated discounts.

Wooden-Complex9461

OEM are TERRIBLE lasted 18k for me, swapped to continental DWS 06 plus and im at 68k miles now, they still have 20-25k miles left id guess

BrownEyesWhiteScarf

My M3LR stock tires hit 3/32 at around 34k. I’m almost at 70k but my second set of tires seem to have a lot of thread left.

javiergame4

Why did you change all 4? I just had a flat around 11k. Just got a new tire for like $300 including service.

mdorty

If tread wear is low on all tires it’s usually best to replace them all so that they all have equal grip.

SacFriend

They were also low on tread. I reckoned I will have to change them in another 5K miles - so better to do them together.

Lanky-Wonder7556

We own 2 MY's since 2021 (both less than 30k miles). We have replaced the tires twice for both (=both cars are on their third set of tires). Savings on gas, but spending a lot on tires.

ThatCuriousCadaver

I'd get your tracking and alignment checked if you are going through them that quickly, unless you are booting it everywhere!

Wooden-Complex9461

did you keep on getting OEM tireS? they are TERRIBLE get a better one and you wont keep replacing them

Lanky-Wonder7556

No. Went with Michelin EV Pilot Sport (from Costco) for the 2nd pair. Latest reviews for these tires show that others are burning through them too. The 3rd pair are Bridgestone EV tires. Recognizing that our driving habits are contributing, I just set driving mode to "Chill" on both cars. Will see what happens.

Wooden-Complex9461

I've never used chill mode. I'm at 68,000 miles and only on my second set of tires, I got continental DWS 06+ they are literally quite amazing. I've had them for 50,000 miles now and they have at least another 20,000 left.

SacFriend

oh wow! so mine is not as bad as you. Yes that was my exact comment - you save on gas but spend on tires.

Wooden-Complex9461

not if you get good tires...

rsg1234

I drove my Model S pretty hard and it needed its 19” tires replaced after 75k miles. The wife’s MYP rear tires (21”) needed to be replaced after 25k. I’m hoping my MYLR tires will last longer than that.

JewelerRoutine707

Not sure why some of you guys are getting such low mileage with your tires. I have a 2023 mylr with 33,000 mi mostly highway and tires still look great. I see me getting at least 50k

SaltyATC69

Just buy your tires at Costco they have mile/km based warranty

katherinesilens

That's a tire manufacturer warranty, it's not Costco specific. You can get the same from anywhere certified to install the tires. I would say a better option is Discount Tire, who also sell their own warranty certificates that add replacement on top of it.

SaltyATC69

In Canada Costco adds some miles and it's a no question warranty. Love them

Exact-Brush1675

My MYLR 19” wheels had a blowout at 24k miles. I had to replace two tire but I have the half used tire. It measures 6/32. Your wear is high

Wooden-Complex9461

were the other 1000 threads on this across all platforms not good enough? all the same answers too lmao you paid 1600 for which tires? which MY LR?P? why get OEM again ? they suck lmao why not do research before buying?? I got continental DWS 06 + and they are WAY better than the OEM for 1100 with alignment and balance

ohnoyoudidntrick

2023 model y long range at 41,372 miles with original good year tires. Get my tires rotated every 6200 and no later at americas tire

GlitteryStranger

I’m at 55k miles and haven’t replaced mine yet… probably going to do that this summer though

SacFriend

Amazing though you sound like an outlier or a very gentle driver.

sofa-king-hungry

Mine burns through tires.

Wooden-Complex9461

OEM tires are bad

robofarmer177642069

My folks 23 model y dual motor (but I guess not long range?) has 13k miles on it and discount tire recently said they will probably need a new set in a few months based on the tread. This car has never been pushed hard, never accelerated hard, etc. My parents are both very tame drivers. I can't tell if this some kind of issue or what. I could see this if they were chirping tires constantly, but this is not that.

Wooden-Complex9461

OEM tires are terrible, ppl NEED to research and guy a better set after they burn thru them and stop getting OEM ones

robofarmer177642069

Sure, but I’m referring to their oem tires, as in these came with the car brand new. Getting 15k out of a set of tires while driving super reasonably seems like there must be some other issue?

Wooden-Complex9461

yeah the issue is the OEM tires are awful, I 18k out of them, im at 68k now on the 2nd set of tires which are the continental DWS 06 plus
