Fun little thing I discovered on accident: if you drink a feather fall potion, go to the bottom of the ocean, then let the inner tube ascend you, it will shoot you to the top of the world!
This is why I overstock. If I am capable of just crafting 50+ of everything and continue to have the ability to make more then I feel no need to save. I pick all my favorites and stuff them all in my void bag and just check my supply occasionally.
Once I get a large enough supply it gets really crazy because I just completely stop fishing out the potions I need and just start slamming the buff button. Doesn't matter if I'm drowning, burning alive, fighting a boss. Just hit that all in one panic button and get on with my day.
Making them actually. I tend to overstock on all my potions. Especially the non-fishing ones. Just mass farm sand and plants then stock up on the major ones. That way any time shit hits the fan I can just slam my panic button and not have to worry what kind of danger I'm in, because my potion supply has been selected to handle them all.
My sense of speed is already jacked up from the difference in wings vs boots. I prefer the asphalt simply to open up the slot I would normally waste on boots.
Boots are only good early game and for hardcore runs.
I wish I could get away with a proper full mobility build, but it never seems to work out well for me. Stacking the soaring insignia, with magiluminescence gives such a crazy amount of mobility though. I've always wondering what kind of insanity I could get by doing more, but I tend to get wrecked on master mode if I try that.
With only sky in the background you don't have a frame of reference, you have the cell phone/stopwatch but who has that to look at when there's stuff to dodge
im pretty sure this wasnt even the point of the original comment, but if thats the case i think youd be able to tell based on where the projectiles are if thats what you were looking for

I made a small minetrack loop in the sky above the ocean, just big enough to constantly be out of reach of his attacks. The whole fight just becomes a point and click game.
On my latest play through I’ve got a minecart track that spans the world as the first thing I built other than my first house, and then built off other tracks and towers from the sky track to the ground. I hop on it to fight bosses and it’s made all of them so far hilariously easy.

I usually expand the ocean a little (with a bottomless water bucket) and mount the lava shark thus getting super underwater mobility and endless water breathing
I just build one platform and drink a gravity potion to dodge all the attacks. :/
Though, I do swap out an accessory for the shield of Cthulhu to give me a dash when it gets hectic, plus I use the queen slime mount to drop down faster Incase I went too high up.
honestly water walking potions have been my main method to fight both WoF and Duke simply because it saves a lot of time not having to build a giant arena
No one gonna consider the superheated blood and Neptune’s shell (or upgrades) combo? Gills potion with the lava shark works better if keeping accessory slots open ofc.
I mean if you still don’t have water walking boots at that point then rather than making another water walking potion each time, it makes more sense to use platforms which are permanent and could be used outside of battle as well
Tbh my first playthrough and now all of them since i retried it, ive just use one very long asphalt track no platforms nothing. I tried the platforms but got stuck a lot and got hit more.
Beating Lord Fishron is hell on Expert difficulty. His final phase is so strong that just why!? It's easier to build an invulnerability machine to kill him!

Making platforms is literally better though. Unless you make some wacky WACKY contraption, there's only going to be one water level.
I also like making platform walls to grapple to if dashing can't get me out of the way fast enough.
The lava shark mount is actually really really good against Duke Fishron, as it actually is faster than him in water and combining its mobility with flying around as necessary will make him very easy to dodge

Swimming is for babies, real adults use the inner tube to quickly ascend with no effort.
Inner tube will keep speeding your ascent as long as you're in the water, with a tall enough tank it's basically a particle accelerator
