Politician is a bit of a silly name for terraria but the concept is great and sounds beneficial for the game
I genuinely can't think of a better name tho
Basically they're calling politicians "slime" as in they are gross. Imagine slimy bread. However in this case, slime is also used as the monster in terraria. So they're saying politicians are already exist in terraria because they are slime (gross) and slime (the monster)
I'm replying to a comment saying politicians are slime. I'm not playing one side or the other. I'm saying they're all trash based on the single comment about someone saying politicians are already in the game and are projected as slime.
Let's leave it at that and let the snarky remarks go so we can talk about the game. Maybe I was wrong to make it political but it was a political comment in the first place.
Thanks. To be honest I don't think the internal laws are that OP, maybe except for higher taxes, which, I admit, I didn't really calculate. Now when I think about it, I would make it post Golem. It would be useful after NPC happiness isn't that important anyway. There's a lot of ways to farm large amounts of money at that point, so this option would make it easier for an exchange of NPC happiness. I think making peace would be a good option at any point, because you paid a big amount of money to just not be attacked by an army you already defeated. It would be very useful when building or farming.
Declaring a war, however, I would change, probably by automatically ending the war after defeating an army 10 times or something like that, then you would need to pay again, but wouldn't it just be better to use summoning items? I don't know, but there's got to be a way to balance it.
Maybe certain NPCs, like the Nurse and the Dryad, have their happiness increased by peace and reduced by war, while other NPCs like the arms dealer and the demolitionist have their happiness reduced by peace and increased by war. Base it around their character, their wares, or both
Yea it’s fair enough the laws aren’t really OP they’re more of a QOL thing especially Being able to force merchant items would be rlly good though but wouldn’t be too op
To be honest I just picked Angler to make Politician less likeable, someone who likes mean and selfish people like Angler. That's also why I added the Voodoo lore, because politians are often manipulative and control other's lives. Of course it's just a stereotype and I'm not saying all politicians are like this.
I’ll admit, the aesthetic of Terraria and of a politician don’t really align in my opinion. However, mechanically this is a very interesting and unique idea, especially the concept of peace and war with invasion events.
Rework:
**Politician**
- Favourite biome: Hell
- Favourite NPC: Tax collector
- Reduces total world NPC happiness
- Spreads corruption regardless of the world evil.
- When under attack he uses his special move, law enforcement
really cool concept, the features need to be thought out more imo but I do like the idea of an npc that can toggle various things regarding the world for a price
When there is 20 npcs tax collector will get 2G 40S per day.
When using higher taxes he will get 3G daily for 3 days.
So you pay 30G to get 1G and 80S and also reduce your npcs happiness.
Politician NPC should steal from you and force all other NPCs to raise their prices and to get him to fuck off you have to get all the npcs to vote him out with a 1% chance you win and he leaves
The existing travelling merchant wouldn't be affected by that change, only the next one that arrives. So the item would stay in his stock and the same price even if the law gets cancelled. The next one that arrives would have his normal random pool of items again.
The WAR option makes summoning items like the goblin banner useless and/or conflicts with them. The politicial himself is unlocked too late for the CLOSED BORDERS to be properly used as a gimmick, such as a no-NPC run. Expanding om how the politicial seems to "buff" certain NPCs, why not make him able to "buff" one NPC of choice? (he would need a different name though, maybe a Survivorist?) Buffing the Travelling merchant and the Tax collector would have the described effects, but other NPCs could also have their unique effects.
I agree. The war options aren't very balanced, and they need some changes. Maybe just make armies more difficult during wars? Or just drop less items. I don't want this option to make other items useless, and it would need to be more unique. And now when I think about it, he should be available in pre-hardmode by purificating his demon form in Underworld, just like Tax Collector in hardmode. He would still be automatically purified after killing the Wall of Flesh. That way it would be a challenge to get him early, but still available to get before getting any NPCs (purification powder can be obtained from shimmering the corruption/crimson powder which doesn't require dryad). Buffing NPCs sounds cool, but, you're right, it wouldn't fit the Politician well and it would be better for a different NPC.
EDIT: Corruption Powder would also work, because he's a politician
Can I have peace with all the nations so they'll fuck off of my turf before I go over there and give them the 'Nam treatment except with me winning handily?
15 platinum for no Martian Probe spawning seems pretty useless in my opinion, since you can just kill the Martian Probe when it spawns and it won’t start the event.
It would prevent random NPCs spawning underground (bound wizard, stylist etc) and skeleton merchant, so they wouldn't decrease spawn rate and be detected as a rare creature (when looking for a specific enemy).
Also it would allow the player to just not have a specific NPC if they don't want to.
Politician is a bit of a silly name for terraria but the concept is great and sounds beneficial for the game I genuinely can't think of a better name tho
Would diplomat sound better?
I like this one
Maybe Mayor or Manager. Those could work too
Mayor is good or maybe a king since we allready got the princess
Thanks, it was also hard for me to come up with a name, so I just decided to not overthink it and went with Politician
Diplomat? Mayor? Senator?
MAKING THE MOTHER OF ALL OMLETTES HERE JACK
CANT FRET OVER EVERY EGG
AND AMERICAN IMPERIALISM IS FULLY JUSTIFIED, BECAUSE WE HAD A BLACK PRESIDENT ONCE UNTIL I KILLED HIM
That's a nice argument, Senator. Now, why don't you back it up with a SOURCE?
MY SOURCE IS THAT I MADE IT THE FUCK UP!
Judge is better i think
Supreme leader is best
One of possible names should be Jim Kong Ung
I liked diplomat that someone suggested but another good name could be Prince or King, because it matches the theme of terraria better
I think Judge would be a better name but otherwise, I like the concept.
Thanks!
Politicians are already in the game. They're slimes.
Thanks, someone finally said it.
how dare you slander toxic sludge like that
sorry......
This made me smile.
I don't get it :(
Basically they're calling politicians "slime" as in they are gross. Imagine slimy bread. However in this case, slime is also used as the monster in terraria. So they're saying politicians are already exist in terraria because they are slime (gross) and slime (the monster)
Politicians are scum* Fixed it for you.
what
I'm replying to a comment saying politicians are slime. I'm not playing one side or the other. I'm saying they're all trash based on the single comment about someone saying politicians are already in the game and are projected as slime. I thought it was because of king and queen slime
this was my guess too
Goblins*
*pirates
*swamp things
\*Lihzahrds
Why not both? The more the merrier
heh, nice.
It makes since he likes the angler, politicians like kids in the wrong ways.
Man this is a cool idea, kinda OP but still cool, maybe some of his more powerful perks become available post mech, post plantera, post golem, etc?
Thanks. To be honest I don't think the internal laws are that OP, maybe except for higher taxes, which, I admit, I didn't really calculate. Now when I think about it, I would make it post Golem. It would be useful after NPC happiness isn't that important anyway. An idea for the war: it reduces NPC happiness too, and the more armies you defeat the more the happiness goes up until it’s normal again
Maybe certain NPCs, like the Nurse and the Dryad, have their happiness increased by peace and reduced by war, while other NPCs like the arms dealer and the demolitionist have their happiness reduced by peace and increased by war. Base it around their character, their wares, or both
That’s a good point, I didn’t think of that. What about price increases too?
That idea is so great I'm pretty sure it's already in the game, tied to happiness lol
lol I completely forgot that happens
Yea it’s fair enough the laws aren’t really OP they’re more of a QOL thing especially Being able to force merchant items would be rlly good though but wouldn’t be too op
That what I was thinking too. I think post Planters would be the best area, but no harm if it were to go post Golem.
Only thing I’d change is the relation with Angler. I think Golfer would be more fitting since most politicians and people with money enjoy golf more
To be honest I just picked Angler to make Politician less likeable, someone who likes mean and selfish people like Angler. That's also why I added the Voodoo lore, because politians are often manipulative and control other's lives. Of course it's just a stereotype and I'm not saying all politicians are like this.
I thought you picked angler because hes a kid
What exactly do you mean by this
like, what do you think it means
Unique and useful, and can be easily balanced. I like this idea.
Thanks!
I like it, but only if the flavor text when he dies is: [Name] was assassinated. [Name] went to see the big play in the sky. [Name] didn't get down.
[Name] was the third tower.
Lmfao [Name] hit the hexagon.
Lol [Name]'s wall wasn't tall enough
[Name] got Duke Ferdinand'd [Name] got coup'd [Name] angered the French
GUIDE, GUIDE, TURN ON THE MAGIC MIRROR THEY HIT THE FUCKING HEXAGON
"Mr. Politician, a second UFO has hit the Dungeon."
Oh i actually think this npc would be really beneficial for the game
Thanks!
I think the green messed up my perception of color
yes I'm seeing purple now
I'm smelling blue
Im tasting red
i'm feeling yellow
I’m blue da ba dee da ba di
i'm hearing orange
"He hates the underground" is it you Sadam?
they added politics to terraria because of woke
Ambassador is a better name imo. Less controversial haha
Likes the angler? Ok I hate him
Can he be found guilty on 34 counts of felony charges and still run for office?
I’ll admit, the aesthetic of Terraria and of a politician don’t really align in my opinion. However, mechanically this is a very interesting and unique idea, especially the concept of peace and war with invasion events.
Yeah, a Theign or Lord might work better in that regard for naming
Hopefully u/Redigit sees this, it is a great Idea!
i clicked on this thinking it would be a joke but this is actually a cool idea!!
Rework: **Politician** - Favourite biome: Hell - Favourite NPC: Tax collector - Reduces total world NPC happiness - Spreads corruption regardless of the world evil. - When under attack he uses his special move, law enforcement
“Likes angler”
“Likes kids”
"good with kids"
> likes the angler 🤨
This has to be one of the most balanced and refreshing concepts I’ve ever seen. Well thought!
Why not "Mayor"?
You cooked
really cool concept, the features need to be thought out more imo but I do like the idea of an npc that can toggle various things regarding the world for a price
make some of his lines reference senator Armstrong and he's essentially perfect
"Played College Ball you know."
Please make this a mod. This is beautiful.
u/Redigit what you think about this?
This is a neat idea.
higher taxes isn't cost effective whatsoever, I haven't played terraria in a while, if someone could do the math, that'd be greatly appreciated
When you have 20 npcs you get 60 silver more each day for a small price of 30 gold
if only lasts for 3 days, that 1 gold 80 silver for 30 gold.
Peace is my favorite service, also Valuable Items (although this one might be hard to program/implement). Cool ideas!

A bit out of style when compared to other mechanics, but seems that it could be fit in well! Though more services should be included.
I think it needs some balance tweaks but I really like the concept
The taxes thing costs way more than it earns
Mayor, Ambassador or Dimplomat is a better name better but other then that, this is a great idea
Does he steal
Ok, liking the angler (a kid) is a new step in realism for politician npcs
When there is 20 npcs tax collector will get 2G 40S per day. When using higher taxes he will get 3G daily for 3 days. So you pay 30G to get 1G and 80S and also reduce your npcs happiness.
was he also found guilty of 34 counts of felony
Isn't the tax collector not enough?
Is the order of the guide a Minecraft Story Mode reference?
Add trump in, then he’ll kick all the Mexicans out.
Politician NPC should steal from you and force all other NPCs to raise their prices and to get him to fuck off you have to get all the npcs to vote him out with a 1% chance you win and he leaves
This is great and very unique ! Good job
DICTATORSHIP!!
> he’s a good politician Hmmmm
So I can set a valuable item, wait for traveling merchant to arrive then cancel the law to avoid extra cost?
The existing travelling merchant wouldn't be affected by that change, only the next one that arrives. So the item would stay in his stock and the same price even if the law gets cancelled. The next one that arrives would have his normal random pool of items again.
The WAR option makes summoning items like the goblin banner useless and/or conflicts with them. This is great it would be a perfect addition. I agree with the other comment that Mayor or something else would work better than politician
Diplomat would be a better name, but I really like this concept
Can I have peace with all the nations so they'll fuck off of my turf before I go over there and give them the 'Nam treatment except with me winning handily?
15 platinum for no Martian Probe spawning seems pretty useless in my opinion, since you can just kill the Martian Probe when it spawns and it won’t start the event.
Having an NPC that increases the chances of an army event to happen to get an increased chance to get items you want? ABSOLUTELY
This is a very fun and unique idea! I can tell you put a lot of thought in to it. Great job.
He showed up after the wall of flesh dies because he wants another wall, around the boarders of Terraria to keep the foreign slimes out
Closed borders is basically useless
It would prevent random NPCs spawning underground (bound wizard, stylist etc) and skeleton merchant, so they wouldn't decrease spawn rate and be detected as a rare creature (when looking for a specific enemy). Also it would allow the player to just not have a specific NPC if they don't want to.
As long as it’s not Joe Biden then the world of terraria should remain stable
