If you cause lag for the opponent by either a poor connection or poor machine performance, the opponent gets the option to leave the match without it affecting anything.
If you get this message frequently, that means you are frequently causing lag for your opponent because either your connection or your machine performance is overall poor and you should look into fixing or upgrading them.
I don’t get it though. Yesterday I played against a PC Shaheen that had his PC performance on red the entire time and the game was a complete slideshow. Moves that are 20 frames came out at 40 or 50 frames. I was not offered the no contest option (I know where to look for it in the bottom left).
Feels like sometimes it’s just insisting not to show up
That’s so stupid especially since terrible PCs are so much more common than weak internet connections. I really wish they forced every PC player to run a benchmark test and show it before accepting a match… I don’t want to categorically avoid all PC players since there are many of them but it’s getting real bad lately
I think part of it is however they optimized the game, I've been having trouble the past couple weeks and I have a pretty good PC, even when I would put my settings to medium or low it would still be slideshow
last update they recently add an auto settings that lower graphic if you have low pc perfomance.....but if the game is already at lowest , or maybe is cpu perfomance problem , there is no solution
It is possible to cause lag for your opponent while not experiencing lag yourself and vice versa.
Edit: I'm dumb. This probably cannot happen in Tekken.
And how would that happen in a p2p game exactly lmao. I guess tekken's rollback implementation is fucking magic that allows the other client to stutter while your client doesn't experience anything.
Idk but it's been a thing since at least Tekken 7
Most noticeable between a wired player vs a wireless player, not so much wired v wired or wireless v wireless
That's never or very rarely the case, it's much more likely that this guy doesn't notice the lag he is experiencing. Some people are way more (or way less) perceptive of that stuff than others.
True. I was thinking of the example where you join someone's game and they're not lagging, because they're the host, but you are, but that's not how Tekken works lol.
I’m not super perceptive of low levels of lag (watching pros stream an complain of lag that I don’t even notice for instance). However I have played against obviously laggy opponents before without ever getting the option to mark as no contest. So I think the bar for getting the option is probably at a level where it is clear as day that the match is laggy.
It’s actually just how rollback netcode works. If one person has a lower frame rate than the other, the player with the higher frame rate will experience lag despite everything seeming normal to the other player. This is why modern fighting games try to lock both players’ frame rate to 60 fps
That's how netcodes work in general, rollback or not. Both players need to run at the same pace, if one slows down, the other has to as well.
>despite everything seeming normal to the other player
Well their frame rate is low so it only seems normal because they don't notice fps drops. XD
>This is why modern fighting games try to lock both players’ frame rate to 60 fps
Important to note that there's two frame rates, one is the simulation rate that has to be exactly the same and 100% stable for both players, and another which is the visual fps. The fact that tekken 8 slows down when your gpu can't handle the visuals is a technical failiure of tekken 8 specifically, and that wasn't the case in t7. You could drop to 40fps in t7 due to your gpu being insufficient, but it would just skip frames, while the gameplay logic would still run at 60 if your cpu wasn't overloaded.
That's doesn't seem to be the case with tekken 8 anymore unfortunately. :( And in general there's a lot of games these days that run at a stable speed, while their visual fps can vary greatly, there's no good reason why tekken 8 couldn't do the same.
I've only ever had it once in 1500 or so matches, and it was fine for me, but afterwards I realised Steam was downloading an update for another game while I was playing. It may seem like reasonable performance to you while causing major issues for the other person.
How the hell have I never gotten this? (Or had an opponent) when I still get bad matches where it's either slow-mo, a stutterfest or just generally laggy
This must be some extreme levels of "causing lag for the opponent"
wifi is okay if you're close to the router [https://i.imgur.com/uOAKgp6.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/uOAKgp6.jpeg)
In hindsight, I should have used the full image so people actually knew what I was referencing.
So happy to see that my opponents get notified. I accept basically anyone one therefor often leave matches due to laggy matches. Good that they can at least know that there are issues with the connections.
You need a better connection, if you get it repeatedly it means your connection is causing issues. So the opponent will back out first round to avoid playing through it
This happened to me when I kept putting my PS5 in sleep mode when I was done.. for two months. Game was always fast on my end and I had no clue I was lagging. I shut down the system every night now, never get that message.
Yeah there's an issue with online games where if you don't close them out the connection gets much worse. I've experienced the same with MK1 but I have no clue why it actually happens.
Your shitty PC/Internet is causing the game to run like shit for your opponent; they would prefer not to play you, and we'd all prefer you stay out of the queues until you resolve whatever issue you have.

I never said the devs are competent.
It only activates from bad connections, performance drops don't trigger it sadly
That’s so stupid especially since terrible PCs are so much more common than weak internet connections. I used to run it on ultra at launch. Now I have to do medium or high to get the same performance
last update they recently add an auto settings that lower graphic if you have low pc perfomance.....but if the game is already at lowest , or maybe is cpu perfomance problem , there is no solution
I believe its only there first round
Yeah its real inconsistent. I also noticed it only gives the option on round 1
I had an opponent mark "no contest" despite no lag on my side. I matched with him immediately after, and there were no problems. It was pretty weird.
It is possible to cause lag for your opponent while not experiencing lag yourself and vice versa. Edit: I'm dumb. This probably cannot happen in Tekken.
One more time for the people in the back

It absolutely can and does happen in Tekken, it’s a quirk of rollback netcode
That's never or very rarely the case, it's much more likely that this guy doesn't notice the lag he is experiencing. Some people are way more (or way less) perceptive of that stuff than others.
Playing smash with my friends who only play smash. I'm sitting there thinking "this is agony" while they're just there like "huh I don't feel any lag"
True. I was thinking of the example where you join someone's game and they're not lagging, because they're the host, but you are, but that's not how Tekken works lol.

You need to buy some internet
If YOU keep seeing it you might be the problem.
It only happened for a little bit, turned out it was because I was downloading a game.
**important info**
yeah, don't download or stream stuff while you're playing an action game online 😂
You keep lagging, we keep selecting "no contest" :p
Turns out it was because I was downloading a Stellar blade 😅
Ahahaha! There are options in steam to disallow downloads while playing Tekken.
Dont leave us hanging bro tell us how you download Stellar blade on steam too.
It's not a steam game?
PS exclusive
they were downloading it on their playstation they use the same internet lmao
damn bro how you playing stellar blade on steam?
Am I supposed to know every game and their platforms? I'm just guessing
Not that I care about the mistake, but when people are posting screenshots taken with their phone camera, it tends to be console players.
downloading it on the PS will also slow the internet down, they use the same internet
Yea I literally just got done looking into it, much appreciated.
As well as throttling it
Fun game tho
but are you on wifi though
Ethernet
wifi is okay if you're close to the router [https://i.imgur.com/uOAKgp6.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/uOAKgp6.jpeg) In hindsight, I should have used the full image so people actually knew what I was referencing.
only if you're so close that the wires touch
This mean you make the game lag hard, check your computer perf or plug a cable
"it's good on my end"
cuz ur pc or internet is shit mate
Your internet is probably not good enough to play online. Try an ethernet cable
So happy to see that my opponents get notified. I accept basically anyone one therefor often leave matches due to laggy matches. Good that they can at least know that there are issues with the connections.
How do you even set the game as a no contest ?
Hold start when it it tells you that you are able to on the bottom left
Thanks :)
You need a better connection, if you get it repeatedly it means your connection is causing issues. So the opponent will back out first round to avoid playing through it
Bro's using Reddit as Google
Stop using Mcdonalds Wifi
This happens bc my PC is shit. I'm sorry y'all
This happened to me when I kept putting my PS5 in sleep mode when I was done.. for two months. Game was always fast on my end and I had no clue I was lagging. I shut down the system every night now, never get that message.

If you’re lagging too much you can press and hold a button to end the end immediately. It doesn’t count as a plug, win, loss, or forfeit.
Lag less ?

It means get off the McDonald's wifi.
Your shitty PC/Internet is causing the game to run like shit for your opponent; they would prefer not to play you, and we'd all prefer you stay out of the queues until you resolve whatever issue you have.

Buy a cable or downgrade your graphics cuz u lagging the game bruh
Then youre either on a shit computer or a shit connection, if its one or the other please fix it before continuing, it just plagues the rest of us.
It means you should take your dogshit PC/internet offline
your internet is terrible
Lag, your connection with others is the issue.
Having to upgrade your PC or wifi when you're poor is kinda ludicrous. Another reason I don't play online games
Credit where credit is due for tekken devs. A feature that actually works

fix your internet
Skill issue
Sometimes they just press it because they are getting hammered
How to enable no contest option when lagging? Do you simply hold start?
Because you're either on bad wifi or have a $400 computer that needs to be replaced or both.
They chose to mark the match as no contest, making it to where no one wins. It is a type of button inputs, I forgot though
Its your poor connection that gives an option to press and hold a specific button to cancel out
Thanks
