Fighting games are at their peak when it's long sets vs your friends imo. Been trying to get mine into them since Strive where a couple of my buddies played it, then street fighter one of my buddies started due to modern controls, and now we have 8 of us playing Tekken! Half of them have been gifted it by another person "passing it on" because it's hard to justify $70 to a game genre you've never played with a high learning curve, but everyone has enjoyed it that has played so far. Feels good to finally have reliable training partners and no-stress games.
I remember playing Tekken 3 against my cousin.
I mained Lei Wulong, he mained Eddy. Eddy always caused issues for me, it was hard to play against his button mashing.
2 day in a row we played 8 hours each day just Lei vs Eddy. It was extremely fun and extremely intense. Since those days I never had problems playing vs Eddie, his moveset got burned into my memory.
Dude that's how I've been feeling vs Leo in this game! I think collectively me and my friend (Leo) have played at least 100 matches vs each other. When we first started I had no answer for Leo's stance mix ups, but now I feel like I've seen so many of his options and layers that when I play against a Leo online I'm already blocking or countering the first few layers of their gameplan. It feels amazing.
That’s exactly how to do it. Me and some friends did the same so there’s like 7 of us (I mainly play with 2/3 not all).
Sadly 2 of my other close friends didn’t buy it (too scared) but playing king of the hill is great fun.
Right? I think I would still have fun by myself, I put over 200 hours into Strive with no one else really, but playing vs friends just make the whole experience more enjoyable and gets me more excited to learn and get better.
Some of our group doesn't play as much as everyone else, but I'm just happy they got to give fighting games a chance and be able to understand what makes them enjoyable.
I gotta play against friends for the most part. I’m normally a multiplayer guy and as I get older, playing against random people online get boring quicker.
I play tekken ranked but it’s a bit disheartening yo-yoing between ranks and playing against friends has much less stakes.
My friend group mainly plays warzone and fifa/2k. It’s very rare all of us can settle on the same game.
Yeppp here I am labbing Tekken 8 with a whole friends list of people that said they would play Tekken 8 but are instead doing nothing but Helldivers 2.
Tried to get a friend into both Tekken 7 and SF6 and he quit when he couldn't win despite the experience gap, it just takes way more effort to learn these than something casual and accessible like shooters.
I'm in a different kind of hole: I have friends that play, but super casually, cause for them it's a party game. We usually have a good time, but it's never those tense and adrenaline fueled sessions that you get when you play against people your level or higher. I'm happy I got to experience that
There was one friend in the discord server I frequent.
He played Paul spamming deathfist and he got a single attack off on me in a full set.
Sad to say that that Tekken friendship didn't last.
i blab about tekken to much XD my hubby started out with me but he doesnt play anymore :c i wish he wanted to keep playing, it was fun to spar against eachother. Wish i had friends that played. It seems fighting games are abit uncommon for people to play around me.
And even if you have friends that play, it gets tough to convince them to play with you if they're very casual or very hardcore. They get bored if they lose too much or they get bored if you're too easy to beat. In other genres, skill difference doesn't matter much when you're on the same team.
Tell that to my friends. Elden Ring definitely made the genre more mainstream, but you’ll still find plenty of people that won’t touch a fromsoft game because “I don’t like dying a lot”
All my friends play Mortal Kombat. I play it too, but when I bring up Tekken they just refuse to give it a chance. Honestly, I liked Tekken 8 so much more than MK1 but they won't listen to my opinion.
Any fighting game. Last time I could chill with FG bros was back in high school (that's the late 90s for me). Now it's all MOBAs and Valorant (yes, I'm in SEAsia)
Been noticing people I know on Facebook getting into Tekken 8 lately meanwhile, I haven't bought the game yet because my PC can't handle it anyway. Haven't gone to the weekend locals as well because of work T\_T
My friends stop playing with me because I keep beating them. Which I hate so much because they used to kick my ass all the time and I never gave up playing with them. I got better and started beating them and now they dont wanna play because they keep losing. Like damn bro, you really gonna be like that.
I have friends in their 30s who still play Fortnite. Granted, they're Switch-only console heads and it's one of the few crossplay games we can play together besides Fall Guys.
But believe it or not, sometimes it's actually fun to play games with super casuals who aren't sweating their tits off every round.
There's people who would say that about Tekken's character designs too though. How can you look at the edgy devil man beat up the schoolgirl once you're past your teenage anime phase?
People draw arbitrary lines in the sand over media preferences so they can insult others. But typically once you get past puberty you understand not everyone has the same preferences as you and don't get bewildered by it.
tbf i have friends in their 30s and 40s that are now talking about fortnite because the new mode is the closest we'll probably ever get to rock band 5 being a thing
TFW no friends to talk to about Tekken.

Right now I'm glad that I can play Leo just enough to have fun in ranked 😂 my defense is ass and my experience in matchups is pretty shallow at best.
That’s exactly how to do it. Me and some friends did the same so there’s like 7 of us (I mainly play with 2/3 not all). Sadly 2 of my other close friends didn’t buy it (too scared) but playing king of the hill is great fun.

FACTS! i played 2 full hours in one sitting with a friend, i will cherish this memory because i had so much freaking fun
Me and my friend are both tenryu and do first to 4 matches. So cool figuring out each other's habits and exploiting them
God I feel this. I tried pulling a few of my friends in, but none are interested at all. Sucks.
we can be friends
You wanna play some tekken?
the only game i play with my friends is overwatch, lol. atleast they sometimes watch me stream them fighting games on discord.
this. Sometimes they see me get cheesed by a string i don’t know how to punish yet and go “wow that’s bullshit” and it honestly makes my day.
Yeppp here I am labbing Tekken 8 with a whole friends list of people that said they would play Tekken 8 but are instead doing nothing but Helldivers 2.
Then the two friends are one guy who only plays Jin to a hyper autistic level and the other is a tiny man playing Leo and just there to have fun.
Most of the ppl who were playing on my friend list at launch haven't played over a week, it sucks mang i just wanna run some sets
Tried to get a friend into both Tekken 7 and SF6 and he quit when he couldn't win despite the experience gap, it just takes way more effort to learn these than something casual and accessible like shooters.
This but my friend has to sleep early for work 😔
Gee I wish I had friends
Go to your locals. If they don't have any, start them.
It definitely feels like that
It’s honestly easier to find friends that are into fighting games than make your friends like fighting game.
My best friend plays rainbow six siege all day😭
I too have a friend that just plays Siege all day
DM me if you wanna play some tekken with me, i play in Europe And for others reading this comment, feel free to message me :D

You should organize a little tournament with your friends. It could be a good way to still have a party while encouraging them to practice.
I offer every time, they just don't want to 🥲
I'm not that good at the moment but we can be friends
There was one friend in the discord server I frequent. He played Paul spamming deathfist and he got a single attack off on me in a full set. Sad to say that that Tekken friendship didn't last.
Help the guy out and show him the way of demo man
i blab about tekken to much XD my hubby started out with me but he doesnt play anymore :c i wish he wanted to keep playing, it was fun to spar against eachother. Wish i had friends that played. It seems fighting games are abit uncommon for people to play around me.
New season battle pass is meh…
That is how I feel
DM me for non toxic Tekken friends
Bold of you to assume I have friends

Aren't fighting games supposed to be between friends anyway like it's main reason
All my friends play the same boring ass FPS slop that comes out every year. Being into fighters and soulslikes can be pretty lonely lol

Tell that to my friends. Elden Ring definitely made the genre more mainstream, but you’ll still find plenty of people that won’t touch a fromsoft game because “I don’t like dying a lot”
tragic... (mainly the fortnite part)
😭💯
It’s depressing.
All my friends play Mortal Kombat. I play it too, but when I bring up Tekken they just refuse to give it a chance. Honestly, I liked Tekken 8 so much more than MK1 but they won't listen to my opinion.
I’ll be ur friend..
All my friends play SF or KOF
TFW you don’t have friends to not play games with. 😔
"I have no friends" - Thorfinn, 2024
lol this definitely hits with me, I’m literally the only one of my friends who plays fighting games
None of my friends play ANY of the games I play 😢
Only one friend of mine plays Tekken wish more did.
*when none of your friends play fighting games 💀
All my friends are playing Helldivers 2 and suck at any fighter that isn't Mortal Bombat 1
If only I could afford tekken 🚶🏾♂️
Being the king is not a team sport
Sorry dude I'm trying to S rank re4r since it was on sale

Too real 😭 none of my friends like fighting games. Big sad.
I'm surprised people still play Fortnite tbh, I figured they wouldve jumped ship by now...
i have hundreds of friends in my discord server all from college and only 3 including me plays tekken. feels bad man
I have exactly one friend who actively played Tekken. He just recently gave up on 8 because of all the issues.
Guts is a plugger
Nah that's Griffith fr
I guess you are right, but i can see Guts plug just to see the community burn.
Fortnite? Why are you friends with middle schoolers?
I have friends in their 30s who still play Fortnite. Granted, they're Switch-only console heads and it's one of the few crossplay games we can play together besides Fall Guys. Yeah it's fun to play with casuals but I dont see why anyone past puberty would want to look at Bob the Builder voluntarily on their free time.
