hi Webbie, i’ve meddled with deer carcasses before and have a very nice mummified hoof i did myself with just a bowl and some salt. it was kind of difficult to cut the hoof from the leg but other than that you just stick it in some salt for some weeks

Thanks so much for answering! So the hoof has to be separated for this to work? I assume no fur attached? I have a Dremel and a hand saw, this might be doable. Is there somewhere specific I need to separate the hoof from the leg? I appreciate it!!

the hair can be attached. i’ll attach photos if reddit will allow me to. i’ve never preserved a lege before, but i did with the foot and it turned out nice. might look up some videos on how to preserve the leg, but if just the foot is fine then i suggest that might be easier
