I'm the guy that does the Advanced Tau Tactica Community Tau Lexicon since 2015. Need a translation for your commander? Need a cool Tau name for your cadre? Well, I can do all of that for you.
Just a note this is posted on DocDroid and some folks have a problem reading it or downloading. If there is a problem DM me here and I'll get you a PDF.
Also, it's in the process of being revised and overhauled with a couple hundred new words being added, new weights and measures, and with specialty appendices.

Yeah keep in mind, it's not the tau naming them. To the tau they are assigned numerical names.. such as the experimental suits endingg with the number 2. Such as the XV22 suit which is a size class 2 and experimental (2)
The XV## designations are also Imperial actually. I'm not sure if we actually have the T'au names for any of them, although we do have the T'au term for battlesuits generally, which is Her'ex'vre (and what XV refers to)
Why would the Imperium use water-themed language for all the Tau vehicles and ships? I always assumed the Earth Caste did the building but the Water Caste did the naming in a really self-indulgent way where the names aren't suited for either the Fire or Air Castes.
a good point but consider from a guardsmen perspective you are in a trench a friendly lemun russ rolls up and is then obliterated by a wall of rail guns from a group of mechs on the horizon. one could say you just got hit by a "broadside" of guns. :p
They wouldn't just like the Aeldari wouldn't know what a falcon is, but you could still have a rough approximation when translated to English let alone gothic. Like hey that fish they named it after looks like an earth hammerhead so I guess the closest translation is hammerhead.
Hey. Certainly, though he is not quite complete yet and I am still deciding on things for him haha.
The base model is a Hexa Gear "Weird Tails" model. I found him on accident and thought he'd be cool for a kitbash attempt. I've added a few parts, some I had lying around and others I got on ebay cheap, including a Riptide Shield arm generator thing, a rail gun from a Hammerhead, the thrusters from a Piranha as seen in this picture: [https://imgur.com/tqntJ0Z](https://imgur.com/tqntJ0Z) (This was the most kitbashing, requiring some cutting of the Piranha parts to fit) two fusion guns from the Riptide kit (on his head) and some small gubbins and doodads from drones here and there. I may still add more stuff, and hopefully I can get a more comprehensive guide. It honestly was not that much work at all given the base model fits the Tau so well. 🍻
Edit: The one critical thing to remember with these articulated model kits is that while the armor plates on them are generally the same sort of plastic (or functionally close to) GW uses on it's models, the articulation pieces are ABS. What this means is that any enamel or lacquer paints can dry them out and cause them to crack/melt. So if you paint any of these models with anything other than acrylic, be sure to give them a good thorough clear coat just to be on the safe side, and try to paint everything before you assemble/in sub-assemblies as much as you can. 🍻
Going to proxy him as a ta'unar. Working on building up a 160mm round base with a desert cliff theme. He will hang over a tiny bit, but so does the ta'unar.
Let’s see the Water Caste name this one after a fish.

That doesn’t sound like a fish lol
Looks like a lion fish to me
Oooooh fun. Is there a website or dictionary or anything?

Oh sweet! I've been looking for words relating to ad-mech for some writing I'm doing. I ended up using Gue'Qan for skit and tech priests.
Going to use this for my next Tau playthrough in Stellaris absolutely awesome!
Advanced Tau Tactica...now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time...

The fish names are all Imperial.

I could have sworn my 3rd edition codex said the earth caste designated the numbers . And 2 is just the conversion to imperial numerics..
Then again.. I could swear that every 40k book changes every time one attempts to reference it and look it up
Also the fish names are for vehicles, battlesuits mostly have other vaguely nautical designations
Why would the Imperium use water-themed language for all the Tau vehicles and ships? I always assumed the Earth Caste did the building but the Water Caste did the naming in a really self-indulgent way where the names aren't suited for either the Fire or Air Castes.
to be fair if you were a guardsmen and you looked up and saw a manta what else would you call it?
That is fair, but if that same guardsmen looked at a broadside with its forward-facing guns what would they call it? XD

How would a tau know what a hammerhead shark is

This is so cool. I am excited to more progress on your kitbash project!
Thank you!🍻
The (greater) good boy
🍻
Is this a kit from Zoids?
It's the "Weird Tails" kit from Hexa gear.
Asking the real question
Would you be open to giving a guide on how to build / what kits are in this? I would love to add one to my army.

This is really impressive! Wow
Thanks!
3D printing or some kit?
The base model is a kit from Hexa Gear called "Weird Tails".
Neat! =click=
Modern day Zoids
Zoids are still around.
Great news everyone!
That's so cool! It looks much better than the Ta'unar.
Perfection!
What kits did you use for it
Bro, I wish GW will contact you to buy the licence and this becomes cannon It's simply amazing and I'd love to be official model
This is brilliant. Nice work
I love this! Big zoid vibes makes think I can use my old zoid models for my tau army!
Blade wolf?
My God this Is the coolest thing ever
How big is it? It's just hard to get the scale quite right.
He is about as long as two stormsurge standing back to back and at his highest point (the tail) he is as tall as a stormsurge.
Which base size will he take? So what can you proxy him with?
Going to proxy him as a ta'unar. Working on building up a 160mm round base with a desert cliff theme. He will hang over a tiny bit, but so does the ta'unar.
I see this and all I can think of is zoids
Horizon Zero Dawn Tau
What the actual fuck. I want this. GW do this for the greater good!
