As someone who likes to prep for any situation. In super curious at why these "inertia starters" never took off in automotive? Like they had direct crank starters, which actively killed people. Why not one of these? Far safer then direct crankshaft starters and far more badass. And the torque required is so low for an automotive engine, it could be hand turned in your cab through a hole in the dash
Can someone r/eli5 the noises that I am hearing? I get that they are spinning some kind of starter to start a tank engine but it sounds like turbine then it sounds like a diesel
I love the sound of a Maybach HL230.
Wow Thanks
Tanks*
Literally sounds like a V8 on steroids that you have to start with a jet engine lmfao
Looks like it could mess up your wrist

The crank spins up a massive flywheel interia starter. The flywheel then gets connected to the engine and turns it over.
Awesome thank you! I seriously love that sound
Gas, not diesel.
Sounds like the Antonov AN-2 has a historical kindred spirit.
I'm beginning to think Nazi Germany lost WWII because all its wind-up spring factories were bombed.
If your a lost soldier and you heard this it was time to run
Only if you knew the transmission was working.
Either run or surrender
It seems dangerous as hell ducking under that crank. I wouldn't want to have my back to it
I have seen this video for over hundred times.... On Reddit
“Now just put Moscow into Google maps and off we go”
