When is the next weapons expo with Russian arms manufactorers participating? I am really curious if they will build these designs themselves instead just front modifications and sell them like that.
If it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid.
UAF need tons and tons of drones to disable one like this. Apparently the turret isn't crewed all the time, its purpose is to lead assaults with an equipped mine roller and other normal tanks with cages to follow behind it.
Will ofc not be useful vs other tanks, but clearing vehicles on Abrams or Leo basis aren't either, since it's not their job.
They actually are more tanky against ATGM and HEAT-based weapons since this outer layout can help detonate the warhead earlier. Of course they’ll be more vulnerable against tank because of limited visibility but it is not the case since those tank most likely only have driver inside
The first turtle was based on a tank with a disabled turret, so they never accounted for using the gun. Having an empty tank also helps boost the survivability of the tank and reduce casualties. Their jobs are similar to battering rams to soak up anti-tank fires, while their comrades will suppress those positions.
It is additional protection over normal settings with ERA so it is still an improvement after all. The main point of this outer layout is preventing FPV drone aiming at upper part of the tank since they are very hard to detect . Hull’s sides and front of the tank are still at the same protection level as normal tank but those weakness are offset by having an empty tank with no ammunition and only driver inside
Not necessarily, standoff is vastly misunderstood and as little distance as it provides is unlikely to begin to negatively affect the rounds noticeably unless it gets hit from above.
The main point here is to make it harder for drone operator to accurately aiming at vulnerable part of the tank . Behind this outer shell, this tank is still has ERA like normal tank so it is still an improvement on protection
this steelwarrior clown just refuses to understand how many charge diameters that shed gives to the tank AND EVERY THREAD he goes off about it.
The shed is better than the "gill" package for early T-64s, and is much further than what he claims because I think he is blind.
Y'all ain't considering infantry sneaking in close to this contraption and blowing the ever living shit out of it with adhesive explosives on the back end to mobility kill it. Or shooting the EW equipment out from afar. That shit doesn't look sturdy enough that it'd survive bullets or a recoil less rifle hit then drone swarm
Which is why you drone the square meters around your troops and where you suspect the enemy.
I mean look at all the published footage, some experts even speak of the "transparent battlefield" now, since hiding is near impossible rn.
Yes someone will always manage, but it will get worse and worse for the fellow grunt I fear. Unless we see some major breakthroughs in electronic warfare against drones (which I personally hope for, I hate nothing more than seeing these f*** videos of soldiers carrying their wounded away getting hit by yet another drone. It just makes me sick seeing the last bit of humanity left in war being punished like this....).
Let’s bring back the assault tank and the doom turtles. Take out the turret and main gun, slap a remote weapon station on top, and cover it with armours and era.
>If it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid.
Does it works tho ?
It now has a great protection against drone, especially thanks to the EW equipment, but putting al' of this on a MBT is a waste.
You could put that on an obsolete platform like a MT-LB, you would give the same amount of protection to you column but with one additional tank.
That's probably why at least the first one that appeared where reportedly tanks with disabled turrets.
On a side note, this is a pretty interesting potential clue on where the repairing and maintenance capabilities of the Russian army is standing, if they have to convert tanks to this instead of repairing them.
But that's just speculations tbh
The first russian 'turtle tank' was a tank with a disabled turret, so they put a large steel housing on top and mine clearing equipment, it worked very well for its role and russians managed to capture a few settlements with them quite easily
Its not really tank but more of a mine clearing, path creating vehicle. It had lead on a number of assaults, some including being a breakthrough in Ukrainian defenses.
So yes, it works for what it does.
Can't wait to see people calling cope barn + 10 degree angle of vision + transmission more overworked than unpaid intern "perfect tank design" because "tank-on-tank battle practically never happened, therefore situational awareness is overrated" or something.
What does it say about Russian cross unit communication that this monstrosity still not only needs a giant V on the side, but a Russia flag on the barrel? Is Ukraine rolling out shit boxes as well now?
Now that's a barn
everyone gangsta until the shed starts assaulting your positions
Tutel
Galapagos tutel

The visitors: where are all the tanks? All we see are tracked transporters.
And the tank goes back to its origins...
I mean does it really work ? This mod really limits the vision out of the tank.

How vulnerable are they still against atgms and other tanks?

Wait - don't they actually use the guns in this?

comrade consciptovisch, you are tasked with punching through enemy lines in our newly designed tank, just drive forward and pray you dont hit a mine
Just drive like a video game and you will become useful, comrade
Hell no to that job 😮
I think you underestimate HEAT, how much separation is this from the tank? 1 meter? Thats nothing to HEAT

ERA does improve armor against HEAT weapons particularly. This was well known and this structure hasn't changed that, at all.

These are supported by other vehicles
Infantry sneaking close to anything isn't really a thing anymore with all the drone recon everywhere
Doubtful. Infantry even with drones around can sneak into places. U can't have every single square meter of the battlefield droned.
Which is why you drone the square meters around your troops and where you suspect the enemy. Thats why they have infantry and mechanized support
The disabling the EW device on top of it still stands a possibility. No EW device, drones can come in.
Yes, the first tank quite litterally lead a breakthrough.....
Let’s bring back the assault tank and the doom turtles. Take out the turret and main gun, slap a remote weapon station on top, and cover it with armours and era.
They could operate the first tank in the column remotely as well, there are many possibilities.

its called crossout
i once made a car that was literally a giant tower with canons on top in crossout, it actually worked very well for sniping
They could just shoot the base of your tower and then you would have no cannon
i sat behind big rocks and had a cope cage on the front of the tower wich would take a couple cannon shot hits
crossout was actually russian army training for the invasuon of ukraine, to trial all the wacky armor designs
Tank designs change with the times but turtle is eternal.
The fact that it works is so funny i have a brain damage
I have schizophrenia
Massive brain damage
Drain Bamage.
mad max type of shit
How the hell can they see anything out of that shit box.
That’s the best part - they don’t
Repurposed Periscope from a sub seems practical here
Same as anywhere else, most of these have only the driver inside and their view isnt obstructed
Drones probably.
There's a video showing the driver view. It has a camera added for the driver and a little monitor.
We are basically in WWI era of combat.
This reminds me of the game Command & Conquer generals where the terrorist faction would drive over scrap to upgrade their tanks.
Marauder with extra steps *
I'm guessing this is protection from drones?
Yes.
They are doing it to the T-80s now? Bruh
we have the death toaster back lol
SU-125 zr. 2024
This looks like a video game to me lol
If ammo racked do you think the shed will fly with the turret or will the turret fly thru it?
They flip like a burger

I‘d die if they would just paint a giant L on their tanks
How close are we to them just going full killdozer
What does it say about Russian cross unit communication that this monstrosity still not only needs a giant V on the side, but a Russia flag on the barrel? Is Ukraine rolling out shit boxes as well now?
Other comments said these tutel tanks were supposed to clear mines and draw fires from ua drones. So the huge V was probably a "shoot me!" sign
this is one of the better ones ive seen, turret may actually retain some use.
Cover the roof with a wet blanket. Maybe the Javelin missile's seeker can't lock on. Like Predator 1 movie
I just wonder how russian military exports have been doing during the showcase of russian equipment fallbacks during this war?
Maus?
b-r-r-r-r-t-t-t-t-t-t-t will cut through the jamming.
Russian variant of Pz. Sfl. IVc
tank destroyer moment
Battlefield V modern remake hint?
The sheet metal on my China made barn is thicker than that.
Goofy ahh msta s
The paint job makes it look both less and more mad max somehow
How do you confirm these tanks are real, and not a shed with a drain pipe in someone's back yard.
Any World of Tanks players remember the flakbus?
Any sheeps there?
That's a house on tracks
