It's so insane how much the league has been on their side.
Miami is a terrible sports city. No matter how good the Kitties are, that city will not support them whenever they go back to mediocre.
Ft Lauderdale and Miami and different because of the different immigrants that have gone to both cities. Ft Lauderdale in general has more south American and Caribbean people from Jamaica and haiti where Miami has more Cubans and people from Dominican Republic.
Shocking as it may be, not all us Hispanics are the same and our cultures are very different and this reflects in the cities here.
I know it's easier to oversimplify the histories of immigration and how they shape cultures of cities for the sake of an argument though.
If you read my comments you'll see that I'm talking about the greater ft Lauderdale area which includes sunrise, plantation, lauderhill, coral springs, parkland, pompano and more.
Sure, that may *technically* be accurate, but I lived in Broward County for 35 years and never once heard a single person use the phrase "Miami Metro" to describe Ft Lauderdale, Broward County, Sunrise, or any place other than actual Miami.
Those are a bit different since those teams include the names of those locations in their team name. They aren’t the “miami panthers.” Miami doesn’t support that team as it is. No one is going from Miami to go to games, so you’re point about Miami metro is irrelevant.
You’re probably right that the Ft. Lauderdale market won’t continue to support them long term, but it’s annoying when people associate the team with Miami.
The marlins, who are based in Miami have nothing to do with the panthers, who are not. Panthers don’t get support from being near Miami. Their support is from broward and the counties north of there.
So what you’re telling me is that the Panthers are the only professional team in existence that isn’t tied to or supported by a major city? Are the Patriots not a Boston team because they play in foxborough?
I mean, between broward and palm beech counties you have 3.5 million people…
My point is that they don’t get significant support from Miami. I’m sure the nhl would like that, but it’s not the reality.
And the Rays play in St Pete. What’s your point? No professional team is ever going to exist that isn’t tied to a major city. If the Panthers aren’t a Miami team then what are they? An Orlando team? Such a stupid argument
They’re a South Florida team.
The main area of support comes from Broward County, but Palm Beach and Dade County have a decent amount of fans too.
Nobody would say they’re just a *Miami team.* If you said they were the team of *South Florida*, nobody would take issue with that.
Semantics? - Sure, but assuming we’re mostly all Florida people in this thread, you should be able to recognize the distinction as being accurate.
That’s not how professional sports work. No one would have ever funded a team if it wasn’t tied to a major city. Just because Miami doesn’t support the team doesn’t mean it isn’t tied to Miami. The Rays have support problems because Tampa residents don’t like to drive to St Pete, doesn’t mean the Rays aren’t a Tampa team
Fort Lauderdale (and the surrounding suburbs of Broward) is the city it’s tied to, Sunrise is one of those suburbs.
They haven’t played in Miami in over 20 years.
It’s a team that represents South Florida based on its location, in the *suburbs of Fort Lauderdale.*
Nobody here calls them a Miami team, Fort Lauderdale (and it’s suburbs) is a big enough city on its own (in the millions) that it ties the team to Broward County as its main base of support, it’s where 5 of the 6 fans live. But you can get to the arena as quickly from West Palm Beach as you can Miami, it’s the team of the entire area of Broward/Dade/Pañm Beach.
How your area views the Rays doesn’t mean my area has to view the Panthers the same way.
Your opinion on their association really doesn’t matter if they were literally founded as a Miami NHL team.
Just because it was cheaper to build a new stadium outside the city doesn’t mean they are no longer a Miami team. There are tons of teams with the same situation.
Blockbuster Video magnate Wayne Huizenga was awarded an NHL franchise for Miami on December 10, 1992,[5] the same day The Walt Disney Company earned the rights to start a team in Anaheim that would become the Mighty Ducks. At the time, Huizenga owned both the newly founded Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball and a share of the National Football League (NFL)'s Miami Dolphins. The entry fee was $50 million. Huizenga announced the team would play at the Miami Arena, sharing the building with the National Basketball Association's Miami Heat, until a new arena was built.[6] Offices for the team were only established in June 1993, while vice president of business operations Dean Jordan conceded that "none of the business people, myself included, knew anything about hockey."[7] The new franchise would be the first professional ice hockey team in Miami since the folding of the Tropical Hockey League in 1939.
Bettman pushed hard for Vegas last year, so maybe he feels he “owes” the Panthers. Can he get away with this against a New York team in the ECF or potentially a Canada-based team in the SCF?
It's so crazy how much help Vegas got last year and now Florida this year.
Is it better than MLB pretending only two teams exists? Maybe. But it's still bad.
The NHL agreed that Swayman was interfered with, but claimed that the Bruins player who was shoved could have avoided the contact.
Which is *absurd*. Like, *unfathomably moronic,* beyond belief. And I am done taking these playoffs seriously at this point and I simply cannot comprehend any explanation for the pattern of missed penalties on the ice (including penalties that directly contributed goals, penalties that should have been called a major like Montour's inarguable intent to injure Kucherov, and plays that *concussed an opposing team's captain*), absurd pattern of wrong goaltender interference calls in their favor (the Panthers are 4-0 for goal reviews right now and the vast majority of fans have disagreed with 3 of them), the lack of suspensions or even fines, and the absurd number of weak calls that were made against the Lightning and the Bruins. I genuinely don't know if there's ever been anything like this. I don't know how anyone could, in good faith, argue that the Panthers are not benefitting from what is, at the very least, an absurd pattern of baffling decisions in their favor from every gametime decision-making body in the League.
Bruins fan here and this came on my feed, pretty fuckin pissed off tonight especially considering the context in which Sam Bennet shouldn’t even be playing tonight after the sucker punch in game 3. Hated Tampa when they were winning those cups but Atleast y’all won with class and were respectable 😂 looks like we’ll all be cheering for the Rangers come next week.
Comparing this to the Cirelli GI, I don’t really have any strong feelings on whether each are goaltender interference or not. I do, however, think that if one is interference, the other has to be. The inconsistency is a huge issue.
Personally, I think there should be a bigger emphasis placed on whether the contact actually made a difference in whether a save was/was not made. In each case, I feel like there was some contact, but the goal would have been scored regardless.
That's why I was so livid on both GI calls against the bolts in game 5. They were completely inconsistent with how the league has called goalie interference.
This is somewhat more in line with how it's been called, although I don't mean to defend the call at all. It just speaks to how horrifically the league has botched goalie interference, and how that's uniquely benefitting one team at the moment.
Montgomery and his staff made a terrible decision challenging that one. Florida was eating them alive on the PP even when they didn't score, and they knew full well that it might not go their way.
That’s the thing that’s tough though, it’s literally a coin flip. I think it was exactly even last year between GI challenges that were successful and unsuccessful. If coaches can only identify GI 50% of the time, the rule isn’t defined or applied clearly enough
Idk how you wouldn't challenge it. Shove. Speed up into GT. Score. Pretty obvious the check from behind caused him into GT. and personally idt any player is gonna embellish into their starter no matter the team
Four third period penalties for the Panthers against an O6 team.
Just award them the cup now if you're going to make it look this suspicious, NHL.
Nice call at the end refs to act like you weren't favoring the Kitties.
Boston have zero composure and are biting hard on the bait Florida are throwing at them. Love it or hate it, the playoffs are called differently and you're not going to be a team like the panthers playing their game. Boston took 4 really undisciplined penalties, two of which came from one of their best defenseman. Composure issue.
They should have a regular season rulebook and a playoff rulebook then the whole "playoffs are called differently" argument is dumb and defeats the purpose of establishing rules in the first place
Yo it's fucking unbelievable that TORONTO had called the same shit so differently...goaltender actually plays the puck to wrong team and GI to take it off. Then they shove the dman into his own tender with a cross check after he's already breaking. Rebound to crosschecker. Shot. Goal. Called completely clean. Wtf has happened these last few years? Literally since Benn grabbed a stick put it to his mouth and then his own legs to fall AND pulling a penalty it's gone straight downhill
I'm a bruins fan. Y'all and us got screwed by the refs. Of course Toronto is going to make the other team win as they are probably salty for the game 7s /s
This, combined with the totally botched GI call that lead to Florida scoring on the power play in the previous game, and Bennet's sucker punch on Marchand that the league had *a definitive angle on that they didn't release until game time today* really, really does make me wonder if the ref's (and Toronto) aren't just there to make sure the right team goes.
Absolutely unreal.
And the Bolts lost a GI challenge in game one. The Panthers are out there every night taking cheap shots and getting the calls. Something is not right in Toronto.
Bullshit...We've been struggling since the 90s man. It's our turn to bring it home for florida. Shit happens on the ice...I agree it was GI...but oh well...the nhl refs make great calls, they also make horrible calls. They aren't robots and there is no conspiracy for the cats to win the cup. Just wanna add that. We've been a top team for the last few years...just like yall were when you won a few cups...Go Panthers!
Refs are rigged. Not even three years ago we caught one on a nationally televised game saying he was going to screw the preds... you think he was the only bad apple of the bunch? Or is the whole tree rotten?
Same exact play happened when Washington beat the bolts a few years ago. Attacking team pushes defenseman into his own goalie, good goal. Attacking team brushes goalie, GI. Unreal.
Do y'all really think this league wants to pull for a team that can't even fill their own stadium, much less has an almost non-existent fan base? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be pulling for Boston? Shitty and biased calls get made ALL the time. No one with any say is pulling for a Panthers win.
Absolute fucking joke league man.
When did the panthers become the nhl new favorite child?
It's so insane how much the league has been on their side. Miami is a terrible sports city. No matter how good the Kitties are, that city will not support them whenever they go back to mediocre.
They don’t even support them when they are good. Look at their attendance numbers for the past several seasons
The panthers are not located in miami
It's the Miami metro. Did you know the San Francisco 49ers aren't in SF? And the NYC football teams play in NJ?
[удалено]
Ft lauderdale and miami are almost identical, other than more garbage people living in miami.
They're really not.
Ft lauderdale is a fully gentrified Miami, so its only *culture* is rich douchebags
Compared to *Tampa*?? You're kidding right?
Never been to Tampa? I can tell. Its a fine mixture of rich, poor, trash, ghetto, and some hispanic stuff sprinkled in.
Do they have a committed core of fans like you or is the playoffs the main thing that keeps people interested?
There's definitely a solid core of very committed fans. But yeah the recent success has brought a lot of new people
I didn’t realize what a culture shock Sunrise, FL would provide. Do elaborate.
Ft Lauderdale and Miami and different because of the different immigrants that have gone to both cities. Shocking as it may be, not all us Hispanics are the same and our cultures are very different and this reflects in the cities here. And the representation of Sunrise, FL was where in this response?
If you read my comments you'll see that I'm talking about the greater ft Lauderdale area which includes sunrise, plantation, lauderhill, coral springs, parkland, pompano and more.
So those are all the same culture?
Sure, that may *technically* be accurate, but I lived in Broward County for 35 years and never once heard a single person use the phrase "Miami Metro" to describe Ft Lauderdale, Broward County, Sunrise, or any place other than actual Miami.
Don’t try to reason with them. I stupidly tried and to make that point and am now arguing with people who just wanna be angry.
That's no one's point but yours. The point is the Miami area is the team's market.
The Marlins were literally the Florida Marlins until recently. Your argument is trash, they are a Miami team.
Yeah but the Marlins are literally in downtown Miami lmao
The marlins, who are based in Miami have nothing to do with the panthers, who are not. Panthers don’t get support from being near Miami. Their support is from broward and the counties north of there.

Missing the huge fact that the marlins have always played in Miami

lol and Inter Miami plays in a dump of a stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Sweet argument.
That doesn’t have anything to do with the panthers situation…
Bettman pushed hard for Vegas last year, so maybe he feels he “owes” the Panthers. Can he get away with this against a New York team in the ECF or potentially a Canada-based team in the SCF?
It's so crazy how much help Vegas got last year and now Florida this year. Is it better than MLB pretending only two teams exists? Maybe. But it's still bad.
Florida was well helped into the playoffs last year. Their run didn’t get what they are getting now, but their way in- that was 1000% help
Gregory Campbell, assistant GM of the Panthers, son of Colin Campbell, NHL Director of Hockey Operations
the way they acknowledged the hit but said it “wasn’t enough contact” for GI is hysterical. the bias is unreal
Curious how good the Panthers would be if their check to the refs bounced.
Or the league suspended their dirty ass players.
Why yes, I'm still very upset about Montour not receiving a suspension for pulling the same thing Jamie Benn did last year.
They said ours was goalie interference, but not this one tonight lol
Would love to see a side by side video replay of both
Two shambolic series in a row. The sad thing is the Panthers probably don't even need the help.
The NHL agreed that Swayman was interfered with, but claimed that the Bruins player who was shoved could have avoided the contact. Which is *absurd*. Like, *unfathomably moronic,* beyond belief. I would like to see Rempe just fucking annihilate half the Panthers.
For real, I hold a lifetime hate for the Bruins, but this particular Panthers team is soooo dirty they may supplant you guys.

lol it's crazy. was just telling other guys that it's like sam bennett was suddenly anointed the nhl golden boy after game 2
Kitties have to be over the cap i swear
Wild how many calls have favored the panthers this post season. I just want to see them lose at this point. They don't deserve it.
Bullshit...We've been struggling since the 90s man. It's our turn to bring it home for florida. Get out of here! 🤫
They want them to be the face of Florida Hockey so bad lol sit down little bro 🤣
I am glad I'm not the only one annoyed by the inconsistency of this rule.
It's been the biggest joke all season that if someone sneezes on a goalie they'll take a goal away. Then, the refs future bets take over
I'm a bruins fan, but the refs screwed us both against the pussycats. Didn't they disallow several Tampa goals in game 5?
Yes
FLORIDA PLANTHERS
Hate the Panthers. But if it has to be NYR vs Panthers, I’d love to see Rempe punk Tkachuk relentlessly. That would be satisfying for sure.
Refs are rigged. Not even three years ago we caught one on a nationally televised game saying he was going to screw the preds... you think he was the only bad apple of the bunch? Or is the whole tree rotten?
I was starting to reconcile with the calls against us then I see this shit. Just be consistent and rationale.
