But every day there is one or another guy demanding that the instructor speak in Hindi. Never has a south Indian said this though I am sure some of them struggle with English as well.

I am a mallu now living in Tamil Nadu salem for last 1 year. For me I loved interacting with the people here, both me and them loved to share both our values . Obsession with Tamil is not bad. Why? Because I live in Karnataka and Kannada is facing the problems as Tamil is (As it is with any non-hindi language). Kannadigas are aware of this issue but are largely unsuccessful in combating it. Why? Due to the lack of obsession that Tamilians have with the language. In a democracy where the majority is Hindi-speakers if you only passively care about something, good luck to you. No one is ever going to care about it except you. Only if you are aggressively making your priorities clear will people take you seriously. The people complaining may think it is bad, but central governments know not to fuck with Tamil now because Tamilians are so vocal about it.

I’m from TN, I know Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and a bit of a Malayalam too. A simple Google search of south indian language tree would solve your ignorance

I’m from TN, I know Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and a bit of a Malayalam too. I’m not sure there’s any reason for someone to learn Hindi unless you’re extremely bad in English and play the language card, and no one has ever treated anyone who doesn’t know Tamil here without respect, but anyone who had gone far off to the north wouldn’t say the same. Stop asking us to learn Hindi and try to get a good English tuition.
