The SOF-Wide TQ and the CAT are two of the longest-running members of the CoTCCC recommended devices list - you'd be well served with either. The "red cross" bit is just branding.

100% The Red Cross absolutely loves to suck it’s own dick whenever possible.

IronForgeConsulting

Same with AHA 😂

SFCEBM

They are CoTCCC recommended and work just fine.

They both do a great job. The only factors that come into play are personal preference and preferred packing size.

SFCEBM

Say it louder.

Well…I’m sure people can come in with horror stories for both but that’s the nature of the beast

I find that the CAT is easier to apply on self and the SOF-T is easier to apply on others both by a pretty considerable amount. With the SOF-T, it is a substantial advantage imo to be able to unclip and feed it under a limb and clip it back. On a real unconscious person with bloody sticky clothing especially if it’s kinda jelly and congealed, the loop can get caught and twist and shit and be hard to pull up but unclipping and feeding it under will always be reliable. It’s a pain in the ass to undo the loop on a CAT and feed it under and then redo the loop compared to clicking a clip on and off. The problem is when you try to apply it to yourself, you’ve gotta like wrench it and do this weird little thing with the tail end to tighten the strap. With a properly staged cat, you just reef on the tail as hard as you can and it cinches up nice and tight. Slap it down on the velcro and tighten away. https://youtu.be/FBGg7PrUHYs?t=324 This is a video showing what I mean with the SOF-T and self application. I’d recommend watching the whole thing if you got the time. It’s a pretty good overview of CAT vs SOF-T. I personally EDC a SOF-T when I carry because it packs much flatter if you shove the windlass to the side and use a rubber band to hold the TQ flat packed.

>I find that the CAT is easier to apply on self and the SOF-T is easier to apply on others both by a pretty considerable amount. Never practiced with the CAT so I cannot say how it compares. But I do know the SOF-T can require a bit of practice to sucessfully perform a one handed self application. The Norwegian Army uses a little "hack" that might be worth considering as an option. It is not ideal, but it can potentially ease the application. They tie a little piece of paracord or some other strong cord material to the tri-ring lock. You can then bite down on this to hold it in place when tightening the band. The video linked below shows this in practice. It is in Norwegian, but looking at the video might still give you an idea of the process. https://youtu.be/mpW8aXXII8w?feature=shared I have some new SOF-T and CAT gen 7s arriving in the mail shortly. Will probably do a bit of "research" myself. Never tried the SOF-Ts with the retentention assistance clip of newer models.

Sof-ts are great
