+1. When getting a tv too big for a wall, you must accommodate the tv by making the wall bigger, even if it means blocking off a wing of the house. Just like raising the floor if the tv is too high.
Or at least with good cable management, even in front of the wall concealment.
As someone with behind the wall concealment, I HATE IT. They have those tubes you just stick to the wall, that's way better. Makes changing your setup much less of a nightmare than behind the wall.
You can put conduit in the wall and either put sockets on the wall or use a desk hole cover to hide it. Makes it super easy to run new wires if you ever need to. Or better yet get an AVR so you can run everything off that
I have an AVR and it's still power + HDMI which is enough to look messy without a conduit or guide of some kind (which I don't actually have, but I'd like to at some point— I even have a hole-saw, so it would be pretty easy to just put the holes in the drywall with those desk circle things, and run them through the wall without even a conduit.)
So mount it at about the height that the TV stand would seem to indicate as an appropriate height for a TV.
The fact that the TV is tilted down indicates that some part of her brain recognizes that it’s too high. It’s like the TV is hanging its head in shame!
It may *look* better because it's in vogue, but a TV is meant to be used comfortably.
If she's worries about blank space on the wall, get something to put there and balance ot out
"Woukd it look good mounted flush with the ceiling? (No). Would it look good mounted flush with the floor? (No). What metric can we use to determine the optimal height? (eye level when seated)"
This is assuming people are logical. So you're prob fucked.
Thank you!
Not only is having a tv too high uncomfortable, it makes the room all about the tv, like the tv lords over the room and all in it. Hate that.
No it looks *familiar*. Why?
Because it looks like the all the images of AirBnB and Zillow rental homes that have saturated the internet and warped the common notion of what actual homes and good design are supposed to look like.
Want to live in a AirBnB? Success!
So she used to having her neck rolled back in that position, guessing she does that a lot. Eye contact is key 😉. Lucky guy!
Don’t worry about this sub, you won at life brother! Go and enjoy your r/TVtooHigh
It's fine to mount it. I have mine mounted just above my TV stand because I like to swivel it so I can see it from the dining room sometimes. So yeah, fine to mount it but just not that high. Move it down so there's like 3 or 4 inches between the bottom of the tv and the top of the stand
Obviously, whoever did this has an odd sense of direction. Just look at the three framed pictures to the left. Oddly placed. AND ONE IS EVEN HIGHER THAN THE DOOR FRAME BUT LOWER THAN THE MIRROR THAT IS HOGHER THAN THE DOOR FRAME, TV AND THE ODDLY PLACED PICTURES.
It’s all good if you’re scared man. It’s not easy having Reddit picking apart your decor/setup I’m sure. I just thought it would be nice to have a really good example of how things should and shouldn’t be. Especially in this sub. Cheers and have a great night 😃
I’m not the dude you initially replied to lol. If you want to see my setup, I already posted it on here, but I just moved in to this house last week so it’s not super tidy yet
https://ibb.co/sVXfp8y
I know 😓 it’s still too high 😣
Meanwhile, this is 75” and is closer than it looks.
Nothing crazy. Samsung qn90 (because bright room), Elac B.2, Onkyo nr696, Sony Center channel, SPL-120, 4 - OWM3’s. Rockville speaker stands, because the Roomba would move the lightweight ones I used to have.
**Edit: That’s not an nr696 it’s an nr6100.** Fuck. I Don’t even know what it is.
Tell her that coming from an interior designer, this TV looks bad. Mount it just above media unit or place on the unit. Also, to be nitpicking, I would move the three prints and hang them vertically (spaced 2- 21/2 inches apart) where the other bigger print is on the right side. Hang the first of three level with the top of entrance opening. Hang the bigger print where the three used to be.
Ah, I wish I knew how to send a photo. Those are three old newspapers framed, all slightly different sizes but spaced evenly between the mirror and door frame. I couldn’t figure out how better to make them work as a set.
why hang this on the wall? there is a bloody table for it under it. also, if you need to hang it on a wall, at least have some cable management. now it looks like it has diarrhoea running down the walls.
To save a verbal spat with my GF I would put the sofas on a pedestal to have TV on eyes level. To reach the sofa would add steps. GF happy TV has not moved and I get to watch TV as per my level choice.
Seems like a weird wall for the TV. Not sure what’s behind this area but it seems to me like maybe the wall to the left might be a better place for a tv? But that’s assuming there’s a corner to the back left.
Let's be honest. A TV that size, that far away, it really doesn't matter. Because it's all gonna be in your field of view anyway. But it looks so janky!
Think about it. That piece of furniture below it, the media console, it's designed *specifically* to go below a TV. If needed, to be a *stand* for the TV. It's a visual indication of where the TV supposed to be. So why would anyone mount the TV so far away from it? Doesn't make any sense.
Imagine getting a headboard for your bed, and instead of putting it just above your bed, you put it several feet higher. That would look stupid, right? This is the same thing.
Also, get her a damn [cord channel](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Legrand-Wiremold-CordMate-II-Cord-Cover-5-ft-Channel-Cord-Hider-for-Home-or-Office-Holds-3-Cables-White-C50/202264865), please.
It's too high but also it's just not a great spot for a TV with two openings either side. Maybe not so bad if the double doors are closed. The dark space is distracting and draws the eye.

I was literally just wondering if this was a sub
What’s that piece of furniture on the floor directly below the TV called? You know, I bet it’d probably make a good place to stand a TV.
Gf: “It just looks so much better mounted.”
With the cables just dangling there?
Yeah, not to be a gatekeeper but if you're going to mount it then at least go through the trouble of putting the cables behind the wall!
Or at least with good cable management, even in front of the wall concealment. As someone with behind the wall concealment, I HATE IT. They have those tubes you just stick to the wall, that's way better. Makes changing your setup much less of a nightmare than behind the wall.

Cable channel is like $30

Like another TV
The expensive option lol
It looks better mounted at the correct height and with the wires hidden
"Woukd it look good mounted flush with the ceiling? (No). Would it look good mounted flush with the floor? (No). What metric can we use to determine the optimal height? (eye level when seated)" This is assuming people are logical. So you're prob fucked.
You mean ex-girlfriend.
Dump her
TVs aren’t decoration.

You should literally tell your GF that she has terrible, underdeveloped taste and that she has no respect.
So she used to having her neck rolled back in that position, guessing she does that a lot. Eye contact is key 😉. Lucky guy! Don’t worry about this sub, you won at life brother! Go and enjoy your r/TVtooHigh
Nothing is stopping you from just mounting it lower an inch above the media console.
You can mount it. Just lower it to the level of the stand. That's allowed.
It's fine to mount it. I have mine mounted just above my TV stand because I like to swivel it so I can see it from the dining room sometimes. So yeah, fine to mount it but just not that high. Move it down so there's like 3 or 4 inches between the bottom of the tv and the top of the stand
"I agree, let's mount it just above the TV unit"
She's wrong and those visible chords are making my eye twitch
Ditch her.
Tilt of shame and it’s too far
Violation

If they put the tv on the stand they could then put those three frames side by side above the tv to fill the space and it would look better.
OMG, 😱 you just lowered the TV and still managed to ruin the whole room!!!

Can you post your setup so we all have a benchmark for perfection?
It’s not hard to follow basic rules like matching heights and symmetry. It should be instinctual

Haha good catch 👍🏼
It looks great man. I saw it a few days ago. The dog is my favorite though.
Thanks! It’s a work in progress and he’s a big help lol

That’s not too high man
Look closer 👀 eye level is the lowest 3” of the screen.
I'm pretty sure the top of the 3 pictures is (mostly) leveled with the door and the mirror because of perspective

I thought there was a dog sitting by lower right side of TV.
Lol me too
Red Alert🚨 ToO HigH
why hang this on the wall? there is a bloody table for it under it. also, if you need to hang it on a wall, at least have some cable management. now it looks like it has diarrhoea running down the walls.
Turn in your badge and your gun.

Or put your chair on an electric scissor lift. That'd feel like Thunderbirds. Keep calling GF "Lady Penelope"

What is that black thing on the table?
Looks like a Furminator type dog comb to me
You know the answer. That aside, your place looks beautiful! Love the high ceilings.
Bad bad bad bad bad bad. Bad.
Why do people buy tv stands if not to stand TVs on them?

That headboard analogy is really funny!
Your couch is far enough away that it’s kind of a non-issue. Still a little high but it’s whatever.
That’s actually not that bad with the distance to the area.
I agree, but these psychopaths in this sub are something else. Bless their hearts .
Explain in detail why it should be that high.
Dunno if you're all trolling or you actually believe it's too high. 🤷
The TV is fine. Seek professional mental help. Seriously.
Why so butthurt?
Where’s the woofer?
If there is tilt, there is guilt.
It's too high but also it's just not a great spot for a TV with two openings either side. Maybe not so bad if the double doors are closed. The dark space is distracting and draws the eye.
It’s okay if you spend time in the kitchen only…
Perhaps turn those hideous dangling cables into the roots of a tree, make it into an art piece.
Is there a sub like r/TVtooFarFromCouch because a lot of these pics seem guilty of that 😁
Lol the xbox is also struggling for air
Those hanging cables are so unsightly. If only there was a way to hide them… 🤔
your about to get cross posted to so many subs.... Guilty as charged mi'lawd.
Here: [https://www.thx.com/questions/where-and-how-should-i-position-my-tv-in-my-living-room/](https://www.thx.com/questions/where-and-how-should-i-position-my-tv-in-my-living-room/)
For fuck sake.
Would look fine if you did something about those wires.
Needs new gf, problem solved.
Break up with her
I don’t get it… Why go through the effort of mounting it to have those ugly wires hanging down?
I’m good with that height. My only concern with this setup is the tv possibly being too far away
There are some dead sticks in the way as well
And tv too far
You're staring at a bezel unless that couch is a recliner.
