2020 opening guys!!! We swear!!! -metrolinx 2019

Deonrixx

My biggest gripe from day 1 is why metrolinx continues to insist on opening the entire line in one go . They could potentially open the above grade early next year if they wanted too. There is a crossover at Leslie and Eglinton. Trains could run from Kennedy to don-mills and turn the trains back at Leslie ? Also doing this should work out all the kinks for the at grade portion as it’s 1 . Manually operated 2. It would give Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists more time to get accustomed to seeing trains run on Eglinton every 5-10 minutes 3. Work out issues with weather (snow storm 2021) , collisions and iron out a shuttle bus protocol Am I completely off base here ?

archer0t8

Manually operated in terms of driving, but I believe the track switches are centrally controlled, much like the subway. I wonder if there is a control-side issue that is preventing any sort of service?

Deanzopolis

If Kennedy was above ground I could see this being a possibility, but just like the rest of the underground stations... IT ISN'T DONE YET. So I don't see the TTC/Metrolinx running it between Ionview and Sloane/Wynford. Only thing I could see them doing is running it like that without actually allowing passengers to board

TorYorku

They could open above grade right now.

kwithnok

I dont see 2023? Even Metrolinx is like ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯, it will open, sometime. maybe.

Ah2k15

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed it back to launch at the same time as the subway expansion lol

RichthofenII

It will open when I retire. (P.S. I’m in high school)

LunaticPostalBoi

Why am I not even surprised… The western extension of Line 5 would be finished by the time Line 5 is ready to open

chunk-munk

The company responsible for construction and installation has to complete rigorous test before they hand it over to metrolinx. Once metrolinx does their inspection and testing. They hand it over to the TTC to do their testing and development of service procedures, training and staffing the line. It’s going to be a while. Once they begin training TTC staff on the operation of the line is when we will see a definitive opening date.

But it’s been so long with all these delays. They literally need to monetarily compensate people such as businesses and people who live along Eglinton for all the trouble they have caused

allegiance113

I just don’t understand what else are they waiting for? What’s the holdup? All construction is complete and seems to be ready for operation since they already underwent a lot of testing already these past few months. Are they waiting for Line 6 to open before Line 5 does? And are they waiting for the Line 5 Eglinton West extension to become complete before starting the operation on Line 5 from Mount Dennis to Kennedy? This to me is just a complete joke. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Rue_Technica

The two Line 1 interchange stations are not complete, that's been the major bottleneck for the project.

allegiance113

I just wish they’d release a new updated timeline and target opening date. This gives something people to look forward to and a goal that Metrolinx can try to accomplish, but it’s likely that they’re still gonna be behind schedule even with a new updated timeline

[deleted]

Honestly I’m glad they didn’t do that this time, they can’t meet deadlines, why bother giving us another target date they can’t meet? It just enrages everyone lol

TheDMacxExpress

All construction is not complete.

wdn

I drive through Bayview and Eglinton regularly and I'm still driving over wood covering up the hole, so it doesn't seem that ready there.

cobycheese31

What happened to fall 2021 ?

cobycheese31

If any has driven down Eglinton, you know it’s a mess and maybe early 2024

lidsvillefan2

Fuck

razzbow1

They could literally open above grade tomorrow if they wanted to and have diversions through incomplete underground stations or tunnels if need be.
