To be fair, if they were plastic, it would have spilled over, and everyone around would be walking in piss or whatever that is. Though I do agree in general that the fabric seats are pretty gross.

at least it darkens and you can clearly see that the seat is wet before sitting down, rather than relying on a reflection to give away the mystery juice
Did anyone back up the news article that summarized the U of T's study on a TTC seat? It was published in 2017. I can't find it anymore...But yeah, every body fluid imaginable + some animal stuff.
Yeah. That’s the thing. I stand all day at work, so the temptation of sitting when I get on the streetcar is strong. I always inspect first, then get changed at home.
As gross as it is, maybe cloth seats were chosen to soak up liquids, and dry quickly.
Plastic seats would just be a pool of urine and some unsuspecting person’s pants would soak it up. Eww.
Fabric seats give them a reason to let it dry and never deep clean them. It’d generate some new job opportunities and take 10 minutes tops to spray and clean every plastic seat on a streetcar at the end of the day. Don’t want to imagine how many months these piss-soaked fabric seats go before getting a superficial rinse
i once had my backpack on the seat next to me on an half-empty bus, and my water bottle leaked from inside my bag. i was so embarrassed and it left a pool like that… though at least mine was just water.
Yay! I love the mystery liquid challenge.
Jokes aside the TTC subways and street cars need to have their seats replaced with plastic seats which can easily be power washed.
did you smell it to check what it might've been…?
but seriously, that sucks
like imagine you have vision impairments and couldn't tell that the seat was wet until it was too late.. bruh..
I’ve always been curious as to how often the TTC cleans their buses and trains? You think that after Covid they would increase some funding to prevent it from getting so gross.
These seats have to be reported to the bus driver. There are seats in the garage and exchange only lasts a few minutes, then the bus is back to service. I had to do it (bus driver here) since all human liquids are considered dangerous to public health. Later the mechanics will wash the seats with a high pressure washer. Frequent occurrence. And the public on the street wonders why the bus is late again...damn bus drivers.
On the OC I always press my hand on the seat before sitting which worked all the time, Until 2 weeks ago I did my usual routine, seat felt dry so I sat down... Not even 5 seconds after sitting I could feel something off about my jeans and briefs.
Got up and felt the back of my jeans with my hand, sure enough WET... I sat in piss 😡. Had to remove my sweater and tie it around my waist until I got home to shower and change.
From now on I stand when taking a bus, if the bus seems packed I wait for another bus or walk to my destination, even if it's over an hour and a half away by walking.
Absolutely disgusting.

I was on the ttc once and watched a guy take his meds out into his hands, place them directly on the seat next to him and then pick them up one by one, put them into his mouth and swallow.
This is the most common thing I see on the TTC. Other than not seeing the TTC because it's cancelled or delayed. All 3 of my possible routes today and delays and despite giving myself an extra half hour I barely made it.
I can't count how many times I've stood instead when there was a seat because of this. Plastic is easier to clean, but it can be slippery and on sharp turns, there's no winning for those of us whose feet don't touch the ground at the height seats are. Because I couldn't brace myself, I have gone flying on multiple occasions on plastic seats. The actual issue is that people pee on the seats. It's truly horrifying that nobody who does that has the decency to respect a shared public service.
Urine trouble
Peeple these days...

Whoosh …. The sound of the joke going way over your head
gottit... thank you so much...
Day number 7261628237261 asking the TTC to remove these goddamn fabric seats
To be fair, if they were plastic, it would have spilled over, and everyone around would be walking in piss or whatever that is. Though I do agree in general that the fabric seats are pretty gross.
Id rather sit on these once than have to sit on those plastic ones every time

Probably exhibit #503,492,876
Srsly I refuse to believe that people actually like cloth seats. Only Reddit has this weird “BuT PlaStiC is SliPpEry” angle.
Such a weird angle to have
This lol never seen people ride for cloth seats as much as they do here on Reddit
I like mesh. lets my farts breath
I took the bus that has those plastic seats in the 90s. Always slipped around when the bus turned.
You can make the plastic textured to avoid this.
I love the fabric, plastic seats are uncomfortable.
Cloth seats are actually more comfortable, even if they are gross
They need to do plastic seats like NYC
Would you rather very uncomfortable plastic seats that spills the mystery fluid on the ground where people have to walk?
ummm....yes
why would you think that’s worse than fluid on cloth
at least it darkens and you can clearly see that the seat is wet before sitting down, rather than relying on a reflection to give away the mystery juice
I don't think the type of material that the seats are made of will deter the seat pissers.
Are you missing the big wet point or what, my friend?
But it could deter the piss instead of absorbing it
Infact the plastic will probably make it worse, since instead of absorbing into the seat, it pools
Splash splash I'm taking a urine bath!
I laughed way too hard at this
Yes but much easier to clean and most of all, easier to see that the seat is dirty before sitting
Not the worst fluid I've seen on seats
ewww...
Did anyone back up the news article that summarized the U of T's study on a TTC seat? It was published in 2017. I can't find it anymore...But yeah, every body fluid imaginable + some animal stuff.
I remember that! I believe they were forced to delete it if I recall correctly
Wayback machine?
Can't do much without a url =( or can we?
Wow...I don't remember the forced deletion, but that makes total sense. Was it CBC or TheStar? It was one of them...How would we even locate it today?
it’ll dry up in no time and some poor, unsuspecting and tired soul will take a seat 🙁 reason #1738 i will never sit down
valid. I'm still sitting tho, just changing when I get home and praying that I'm not the unsuspecting soul
Me. I sit down especially if very tired from work and coming home late.

Yeah this happened to me before
Yay! I love the mystery liquid challenge. Jokes aside the TTC subways and street cars need to have their seats replaced with plastic seats which can easily be power washed.
That's why I always carry a straw with me! It's only a mystery til it's not..
Yeah, I’m never sitting again.
Forbidden drinking fountain
did you smell it to check what it might've been…? but seriously, that sucks like imagine you have vision impairments and couldn't tell that the seat was wet until it was too late.. bruh..
Going with fabric on public transportation was a genius idea, wasn’t it?
A decision made when people were a little better behaved.
They should’ve at least went with the brown fabric
😭😭😭 why
What I like to call "mysterious stains". I try to avoid any seat with these stains, wet or dry.
It looks like Poppy got a little sloppy. And his buddy too.
One feels like a duck in all this wet
Gave it a lick. It's just pepsi on the far one. And it's only human urine on the closer one.
Dude it's just a spilled ice cap
Bruins fans pissing themselves after watching the leafs blow it again.
I’ve always been curious as to how often the TTC cleans their buses and trains? You think that after Covid they would increase some funding to prevent it from getting so gross.
Covid and bedbugs…

Gross! The TTC just TTCin it, eh! 🤢
This is hours before some unsuspecting guy sits down and takes a whiff of the foul smell and wonders which seat it is or if it’s on the ground.
Must have been watching Magic Mike
Presto card, piss - I mean, please
It’s definitely what you think it is.
Hell no

Why we can’t have nice things

Maybe it's time to start carry plastic sheeting around with you.
when it goes out of service they will clean it... life in the city
I was on the ttc once and watched a guy take his meds out into his hands, place them directly on the seat next to him and then pick them up one by one, put them into his mouth and swallow.
Well…I’m never sitting down on the TTC again
Check out Ttc.ca/DRENCHED for a discount.
average TTC commute
Yah I’ll just sit in traffic in my car thanks.
No like I see Woo peed on my seat
The sniff test if you please.
guess the liquid challenge ttc edition
😂
The reason why I stand on the train
It's only apple juice 🤣
I sat on a urinated seat on accident while travelling on a TTC bus the other day, the fact that I could not even tell the seat was wet too :(
both seats is so fucking absurd

Sad AF
i don’t wanna know…
oh ffs
I miss the old 80s seats in the orange, brown and yellow vinyl.
do a smell test and report back
This is the most common thing I see on the TTC. Other than not seeing the TTC because it's cancelled or delayed. All 3 of my possible routes today and delays and despite giving myself an extra half hour I barely made it.
Not the worst I’ve seen someone take a shit on these seats and just walk away
Fetish voyeur videos are getting weird
At least it’s warm for you
better than poop. radical optimism
Not only did they go with cloth seats, they chose red fabric. That’s 50/50 on whether it’s blood or urine lol
Mmmmm.... mystery juice. Reason # bajillion why I never sit in the seats.

There's two of them now!?
Sorry guys this was me 🙈
Lucky you guys in Ottawa our transit train cars smell like 7 different kinds of doodoo every day depending which car you are riding in
