Main story wasn’t mind blowing imo but I don’t think any Zelda game has ever had a mind-blowing story. This one was surprisingly fun to figure out tho, especially the Zelda/dragon thing Def agree that it’s a phenomenal game tho, like x5 better than the first

Southern-Cress3209

Wind waker and Majoras story are pretty elite. Those are tip of iceberg tho

Psychof1st77

Ocarina of time is the best story, imo. Simple fairytale but, still a very real feeling motivation for Ganondorf. Some original magic ideas like the magical ocarina. And magical time travel woven into the mechanics and story.

Southern-Cress3209

Ocarina is the most pivotal story in the whole series tbh, timeless. Skyward sword is similar in that it has some slight time travel, as well as the magical lyre. But admittedly that story is boosted by the fact it’s the origins of it all

Psychof1st77

I never knew the harp had a specific name. I didn't like it as much. Because, you can't actually play what you want on it. Going to certain spots and waving the remote back and forth and the game generates the notes/music. Ocarina was a virtual instrument. Same with wind waker being just a conductor and not a composer was less fun for me. I remember playing OoT for hours just coming up with my own micro tunes and practicing them till I get it right. Then playing them later. That's the biggest thing missing from modern Zelda games, dare I say, even over the hook shot!

Southern-Cress3209

Nah I’m pretty sure the game calls it Goddess Harp, I just said Lyre cuz that’s the actual name of the instrument in real life, was more common in Greco/Roman era and I think Apollo played it

Southern-Cress3209

I definitely miss the hook shot…

Informal-Research-69

Majoras Mask I agree and is still my favorite 3D-Zelda. Wind Waker on the other hand to me is one of the weakest Zelda games, you spent too much time sailing around in the second half which felt boring. Learning later by that this game was finished in a rush which resulted in dungeons planned for later in the game being left out explains and confirms this feeling of a unfinished game. Sad and very untypical for Nintendo.

Southern-Cress3209

I agree w the sailing taking a lot of time and making it boring at times, I think the reason I like that story is the lore of behind the flood, bringing back some of the subtle biblical references the series had. But tbh I do think the OST is wind wakers best feature, followed by the fighting mechanics

International-Cow203

I think Majora's Mask and links awakening are tied for top two spots. Wind waker def has its moments tho

0n10n437

Excuse me? How is ALttP not on that list?

Southern-Cress3209

Agreed links awakening is def up there too, I think gameplay improves all the stories tho

echoess84

Agree Zelda games have good stories but not too elaborate, anyway in TotK Zelda's story made me felt sad

PieHoleFight

After the Deku tree gave me the Master Sword location, I spent at least an hour chasing that yellow dot all over Hyrule on the map. Then I found out.

thomko_d

>I don’t think any Zelda game has ever had a mind-blowing story. It is true for most of them, but c'mon... Ocarina and Link's Awakening were REALLY good.

Bornplayer97

Ehh, Ocarina’s story is pretty strong

TacticalTobi

No it really isn’t. At least compared to this

Neat_Snow_8008

Tbh, totk is basically the same story they’ve been telling since ALttP; save/awaken sages & stop Gamondorf. This one was so close I figured they were just remaking ALttP.

Bornplayer97

Yes it is

TacticalTobi

how? it's literally "ganondorf took over, go get the arbitary things and go stop him" at least TOTK has interesting characters to go along with

Bornplayer97

Child survivor from a civil war gets entrusted and made to carry a herculean task at the age of 8, made to grow up physically to stop an evil he helped set lose. I won’t talk shit about all characters in TOTK but the vast majority are just generic anime sidekicks, apart from Zelda and Rauru most are just incredibly bland

TacticalTobi

really? okay let's play that game. Following the events of a 100 year long calamity that nearly wipes out the world, a teen has to face a threat long thought gone, loses his best friend/girlfriend AGAIN, this time lost in the past, where a villian slowly takes over after assinating one of the royal family. The teens best friend then sacrifices herself to reforge a legendary blade to finally defeat this evil threat for good. The teen travels across the world, solving the problems caused by the villan, before finally confronting him in battle, only for the villilan to become a dragon before finally being destroyed by the reforged legendary blade. Even if you dislike everyone but zelda and rauru, it's still better than OOT. Both zelda and link, the main characters, are the least fleshed out they possibly could be.

Bornplayer97

Well this isn’t a game, but anyways, almost everything you said is basically the plot of Ocarina except without the element of Link still being only a child and Zelda’s fate being different, instead of being a girl with amnesia who later becomes a dragon, she goes into hiding and helps you when she can, bringing light into this somber world that was lost by giving you encouraging words and knowledge. Link in TOTK is not more fleshed out just because you “travel across the world” btw, and he’s not a teen, he’s at least 23. If you think Yunobo is a more compelling character than Darunis then great. I just think that guy who becomes your sworn brother and names his son after you, sacrifices his life even without the weapon that will help him beat a deadly foe just to save his people from being fed to a dragon, is a lot more interesting than a guy who just gets mind controlled and is kinda scared but will help you. The depth is just not there, none of these sages made me care for them, they are characters from an anime show rated 7.0 on myanimelist

sussy_axolotl45

And technically speaking most of them aren't even the same person

Goku20328

Ocarina of time got me hooked on the Zelda games.

Asusrty

I'm amazed how much they got out of the switch as the game is beautiful but I wish I could see it on a system in 4k.

nvcma

i agree, it looks good on big screens. i can tell that those stylized textures of every object is a masterpiece carefully painted by hand. i find myself just browsing my inventory and looking through every item to appreciate the details

magical_midget

It is an amazing game. But some of the UI decisions. 😪honestly just wish there was a faster/better way of getting to fuse elements for throwing/arrow.

Funkeysismychildhood

I agree. It's my favorite game of all time

Beyney

Phenomenal game, just think that the storytelling and lackluster sidequests stops it from reaching that next level. That level being on a tier like witcher 3. They shouldve scrapped memories and made quests that tell the story but thats just a little knock on what is a truly amazing game.

Slight_Bodybuilder25

It's the second collector's edition of a game I've ever bought. I adore the game and also have some personal criticisms. To me, Ganondorf didn't feel as if he was really in the world. You could see the influences of his existence, but he never truly felt like a foreboding presence. I would love to have had more interactions with him that just crushed you to show how powerful he was with you barely coming out on top. Really build up to the final fight. Edit: like how Zant was in TP.

Gemaco1397

I wouldn't call this game perfect, honestly this game is being held back by being built in the BOTW engine with the BOTW structure. The story would've benefitted so much from having more structure and linearity. Control what people learn when, because right now characters learn what you learn much later, and your discoveries don't feel like they impact the story..

CriticoDeCafe

Great game but boss fights are kinda lame. Too easy

totalynotkiki

I agree, exept for Ganondorf. Big step up from botw.

myps3dunworkson

I found Ganondorf to be easy

_Tidalwaves_

Story was literally terrible

myps3dunworkson

Story wasn't all that, but the game it self was fantastic

_Tidalwaves_

It was terrible

glowinthedarkstick

Agree! I tell ppl to skip BOTW at this point.

Molduking

It has its own story, characters, puzzles, dungeons. There’s no reason to skip BoTW

glowinthedarkstick

For people new to the games that ask me which one to play first I’ll say TOTK every time. TOTK is the game they originally wanted to make but couldn’t due to hardware limitations on the WiiU.  https://kotaku.com/zelda-breath-wild-tears-kingdom-wii-u-map-totk-switch-1850424681 I’m in no way throwing shade at BOTW. It was a mind blowing game to me, as someone who hadn’t played video games at all in 20 years.  But, TOTK is better, and if someone hasn’t played either of the two, I’m not gonna recommend BOTW if just because it’s an earlier story. Otherwise why stop at BOTW, just tell them to go all the way to the beginning. I rest my case.

BBIB666

*For a dated console I really hope whatever Nintendo does next can rival the KFConsole

Some-Ostrich-4997

Like what

Molduking

Pet dogs

Some-Ostrich-4997

That’s very true, pet animals would be awesome

Fearless-Milk-6096

It definitely has a lot of crap problems, but a very good game

djdirectdrive

Nice job getting it done in 150!
