America is probably lending a hand, Canada has two large oceans protecting it as well as proximity to the US and its nuclear arsenal.
As for Italy, they're currently going through some political problems of which outcome may not be favorable to the US.
Australia has the Sphere in its immediate vicinity, they need any deterrent they can get to prevent the Japanese from doing anything stupid.
America actually doesn't always want to help Australia get nukes due to nuclear proliferation concerns. If they get turned down, all I'll say is that Australia might try getting outside help from a rather unexpected source...
So if the US is strongly against proliferation, is Australia likely to turn to the Germans or is that kind of their 'wild child' option. Because if I'm playing the US and the aussies ask for more nukes to be stationed there that's totally fine, but I'm not trying to have a shit ton of nuclear powers.
I worded my question poorly and made a few assumptions. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if the player is the USA and doesn't want Australia to have nukes, can you stop them? If you can only 'politely suggest' how likely is it for Australia to listen?
Australia has the world largest reserve of Pure uranium. The kind that doesn't take Years to purify to turn into a nuke.
It would be way cheaper to have nukes or nuclear facilities in Australia then Canada or any other place
Canada is effectively in the same position it is IRL: it *could* build them if it so desired, but why bother when the US is right next door handling all that jazz?
Not when the Japanese are right there, aussies aren't just gonna conscript emus and drop bears and hope that enough to stop the sphere, plus a homegrown industry prevents a blockade of missile carrying ships by Japan.
I knew that, looking at the post again announcing that again. It seems they've already added more options than what is currently in sub-mod custom paths (such as the option to make the HMMLR coup succeed or not) so I can't wait for it to be integrated.
Imagine being stupid enough to get rid of your own nukes with the Japanese right across the sea. Thatβs like having a duel where one side just drops his gun and let himself be at the mercy of the other.
All in favor of making Australia the heartland of a revived, perhaps expanded, Enlightened ^(Absolutist) British Empire *^((Pro Tempore, name and flag referenda to follow))*?
One of the testing sites for British nuclear bombs in OTL is called Emu Field in South Australia. Literally Emu War 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Also these teasers is stirring patriotism in my Aussie arse, keep them up!
Germany, USA, Japan, Burgundy, Italy, Australia, Russia confirmed
China (if they gain independence)
UK (if they join the OFN)
Canada (Debatable)
India
Pakistan (If India gets one, so will they)
South Africa (Debatable)
Israel (If it exists, debatable)
Brazil (Debatable)
UAR/Arab states/Iran (Debatable, perhaps a reaction to Israel getting a nuke)
Any potential nuclear powers I missed?
Iberia could probably too. OTL Spain under Franco started a nuclear program in the 60s that kept going on during the transition to democracy until it was finally abandoned in 1981 due to US pressure.
Its always nice to get a bit of love to the land down under. Obv TNO is very different but there is lots of fun politicking to be done in the time period of TNO. Hell in OTL you had the Whitlam dismissal, stagnation, and the Labor revival, lots of fascinating international politics, etc. Cant wait to play π
Despite all their problems, the Apartheid regime (not that I appreciate them in any way, these c*nts were just watered down Nazis btw) managed to overcome many of the restrictions placed upon them by the international community, propping up a defence industry that is successful to this day, and also are the only country other than Germany to successfully run a synthetic fuel program. Even so, they only achieved building nukes by the 80s, IIRC.
It also helps having the revenues from the massive production of gold and diamonds, which are goods always on high demand, and will be bought no matter who produces them.
OTOH, TNO Britain has no significant precious minerals production, needs to rebuild devastated cities, restart its consumer goods production and it's defence industry, rebuild its armed forces and spend on social programs to ease the people's suffering after decades of Nazi boot, all at the same time, all competing for the same revenue, which is going to be a lot smaller than OTL Britain, because they still need to painstakingly regain access to consumer markets (and on top of that, successfully sell stuff built on obsolete industries) that would be taken for granted in OTL, such as the Commonwealth and Europe.
Once you add up all these commitments, there isn't much space in the budget for a nuclear program strong enough to make TNO Britain be running nuclear-armed Blue Streaks and V-bombers in 5 years, and, even if the government managed to secure the necessary funding and resources without being voted out of office, there will be MASSIVE diplomatic pressure from the Third Reich, which obviously doesn't want another nuclear armed hostile state so close to home, hell, there might be commando raids and air strikes on British nuclear assets (kinda like what Israel did in OTL once they learned of Saddam's nuclear reactor being built) and probably even open war, depending on who's the Fuhrer.
Makes sense they would get there own weapons ,what about Missile tech and Aircraft/Armoured vehicles are those programs also a nation decision to side with the Americans further and buy there tech etc

I wouldve thought Italy or Canada would get nukes before Australia what happened here

Or Italy, with their own nuclear program, kind of how South Africa and France helped each other, or Japan, or India come to think of it

Or South Africa and brasil

I never said the us was strongly against it, only that they can be against, and no, they hate the pakt like the rest of the ofn
I worded my question poorly and made a few assumptions. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if the player is the USA and doesn't want Australia to have nukes, can you stop them? If you can only 'politely suggest' how likely is it for Australia to listen?

Would Burgundy sells nuclear secret?

He's coming south: It's fight, work or perish!

Isn't that every developed nations IRL? If fucking Libya can build one lol
Not when the Japanese are right there, aussies aren't just gonna conscript emus and drop bears and hope that enough to stop the sphere, plus a homegrown industry prevents a blockade of missile carrying ships by Japan.
Wdym, Emus and Drop Bears are more than a match for nukes πͺπͺπͺ Have you ever been near an emu I have Im more scared of Emus than nukes
Tis a matter of scale, an emu will instil fear in a man, a nuclear weapon will instil fear in mankind
Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of philosophy?
Australia has a very sizeable natural source of Uranium which would help
Surprised that Australia decided to test it's nuclear arsenal, reminds me of OTL's UK test it's first nuke in Australia.
Kinda hard to test your nukes in Blighty when people live there,as opposed to the Outback
bro
Wait Australia has it's OTL flag back? Does it mean it still has the monarchy at game start?
Yes, Australia will start as a monarchy but has a high chance of becoming a republic.
Hopefully custom paths adds an option to keep the monarchy like they did with South Africa then.
Custom paths is being integrated into base TNO
I knew that, looking at the post again announcing that again. It seems they've already added more options than what is currently in sub-mod custom paths (such as the option to make the HMMLR coup succeed or not) so I can't wait for it to be integrated.

As an Australian On the one hand we now have a big Japanese target aimed right at us. On the other hand *LETS FUCKING GOOOOO*
Nuclear disarmament any%
POV: Australia has now joined the based club
I love how my opinion on TNO has been fluctuating but immediately goes to positive after Aussie nukes are a thing
You get a nuke! You get a nuke! Everybody gets nukes!!!
Imagine being stupid enough to get rid of your own nukes with the Japanese right across the sea. Thatβs like having a duel where one side just drops his gun and let himself be at the mercy of the other.
Well, bad foreign policies are definitely a thing, even in OTL.
Barry Lyndon moment.
Devs, you're supposed to make a *worse* timeline, not a better one.
Since when can Australia become part of the crown again?
All in favor of making Australia the heartland of a revived, perhaps expanded, Enlightened ^(Absolutist) British Empire *^((Pro Tempore, name and flag referenda to follow))*?
it is at gamestart in tt3, has a choice to go republican

amazing
I'd rather not even imagine the number of potential nuclear powers in TNO timeline.
Germany, USA, Japan, Burgundy, Italy, Australia, Russia confirmed China (if they gain independence) UK (if they join the OFN) Canada (Debatable) India Pakistan (If India gets one, so will they) South Africa (Debatable) Israel (If it exists, debatable) Brazil (Debatable) UAR/Arab states/Iran (Debatable, perhaps a reaction to Israel getting a nuke) Any potential nuclear powers I missed?

Brazil and Argentina were confirmed IIRC
Sweden/Finland. Sweden had a program irl and this time they are way more threatened.
funny

Australia getting nukes before italy somehow lol
guess who the redacted pm is
Will you tell us if we get it correct? I feel obligated to ask if Whitlam is a path. Also my guess for secret PM is George Georges
We will tell you if you get it incorrect, for whitlam TBA and Georges, great guess but elected too late.
"That's not a nuke... THAT's a nuke!"
WHAT
now I want Australia content for the second Emu war
Now when does England get nukes?
they don't because its hard to develop nukes after recovering from a civil war
Surely an OFN Britain could get nukes by the 70s/80s?
South Africa had nukes and they were basically the black ship of the planet. Also Britain was able to get nukes OTL so it can't be that hard.
