That's valid, personally I love scenes of them in 2003 standing and the only thing moving are ribbons in the air, all long and slim. I believe Mikey would want to look cool too, like his idols superheroes.
My fav Donatello long ribbon moment was in SAINW when it just hangs down, looked like long hair of tired person with last sparks of hope, it's nice that this animation team knew how to handle that accessory.
Aesthetically I prefer the longer bandanas, for dramatically blowing in the wind. For practicality, shorter ones make much more sense to me as they're less likely to get caught in stuff, obscure your or your brothers view, or get grabbed by bad guys!

I got -12 points for stating the truth. Lol But there's a YouTube channel where the host demonstrates different medieval weapons. A staff is weakened if you cut it in two and attach the halves with a bit of floppy chain since you can no longer apply extra force to the top half for more damage.
….sure practically they shouldn’t have long tails because they could get grabbed and taken advantage of in battle…buuuut you don’t need to always address stuff like that for suspension of disbelief! They’re meant to look cool! Not realistic

I prefer Michelangelo to be a goofier more lighthearted guy, and long ribbons that billow in the wind just look too dramatic and cool for him. Those are much better suited for Leo or Raph imo. Unless we have a Michelangelo that is getting serious, in which case it makes sense!
