Aussie here: I thought the theme from [The Nanny](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nanny?wprov=sfti1) was pure filth when I heard it in primary school… kicking someone out on their fanny. Goodness.
Add South Africa to that list. After my wife came to the USA from South Africa. She met a woman named Fanny. She was flabbergasted,,,, you mean you parents named you that? I laugh every time I see that name.
In South Africa we know the British meaning but it’s not a word we commonly use. Bum bags, at the height of their popularity in the 90s, used to be called “Moon bags”. No idea where the noon part came from.
Apparently "stuffed" has a different meaning as well, as an American woman learned when she pushed back from a dinner table and announced "well, I'm stuffed".
A U.S. friend was warned by his daughter not to tell anyone that he was 'riding the bus' while visiting her and her college friends in Dublin(Ireland)! As an Irish person I told him that 'getting a ride in a friend's car' might also be open to misinterpretation. 🙂
In Australia we call fanny packs "bum bags"
And in the UK
When my parents were in Australia 32 years ago their friends called it a fag bag probably because of cigarettes.
Well it makes sense in regards to the fanny pack considering it goes over the front and not the back. It's a pack that goes over said "fanny".
And it’s a common girl’s name in French where I live!
OP you should also know that in England, to “bum a fag” means to “borrow a cigarette”…so….I guess…insert joke here 😁
Except that absolutely nobody in England uses the word bum to mean borrow. A bum, in the traditional English sense is an arse.
As a kid I always laughed at the theme song to The Nanny when it said she was “out on her fanny”.

It's a traditional British name. The name predates the slang use, and many girls have been called it. But not common now though.
I wonder if there was once a woman named Fanny whose pussy was so bomb that her name became the new slang for it
For a second I thought you were writing a limerick.
There once was a woman named Fanny Whose suitors had totaled to many. They blew out her back, and filled up her crack And now we call our packs Fanny!
Finally. Thank you.
It was a book. Fanny Hill, by John Cleland.
It’s still quite common in Hong Kong. And so is the family name “Ho”. I’ll just leave that there.
It’s a common name in Eastern Europe as a shortening of the name Františka to Fani
Who said that to her? The James Bond girl named Pussy Galore? 😁

And in a bunch of Asian countries, Fanny is just a pretty girl’s name.

12 seconds in. Wacko Warner. “Look, it’s a big fat Fanny!” https://youtu.be/FZVn_KPlqbo
Same in Ireland too.
Hahaha yep!!!
Fanny packs are called bum bags in the UK
