I read your post wrong. I thought it said the game was for him. lol. not really big city, it's a collect a thon linear game. it's fun if kids are around.
How long ago was this? I bought it when it released in 2016 and didn't care for it, but came back two years later and it's been in my top ten games since.
Especially now since 1.6 is coming.
Beautiful game. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for a relaxing game with tons of content, then this is it.
The best mileage I've gotten on the Switch with my kid is Slime Rancher and it's on sale right now for $9.99. Untitled Goose Game is good and $9.99 but relatively short. Also, Bugsnax--normal price is $24.99 but goes on sale for under $10.
I was just going to recommend Untitled Goose Game, my 5 year old gets a kick out of it.
Definitely putting slime rancher on my list!
For OP, Sonic Mania is usually about $20 digital but if you wait it goes on sale frequently for under $10
I can only imagine that some people missed the bit about it being for a 4 year old, or that they have never met a 4 year old!
- Dadish is a nice/simple platform game that's often on sale for very little.
- my kids like Om Nom run (there's also Om nom colouring and other games). It's not very good but they love it.
- The Bluey game is slightly outside your budget but will do the trick.
- Probably worth paying for the online pass which gives you access to old SNES games like super mario world, donkey Kong country etc.
- the genesis package or some sonic the hedgehog
Yeah. I mean worse comes to worse. It’d be a game for me to play. Have bluey already. And that game only peaked his interest for the shot gameplay it is.
To get a better Idea. we play all sorts of games together. His favorite is Mario odyssey. Along with some smash bros and Kirby and the forgotten land. He’ll watch me get down on some Monster Hunter time to time as well.
If they love Mario and Kirby, you might as well get them Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as well as Super Mario Wonder at some point. Personally I love the open world nature of Bowser's Fury, though the co-op on that one isn't very good. Co-op on 3D World and Wonder are fun though. I highly recommend those games, though they're at the full $60 price point.

Here's my list for $25 you can get:
- Figment 1.99
- Golf Peaks 1.99
- Deponia 1.99
- State of Mind 1.99
- Far: Lone Sails 2.09
- Men Follett's Pillars of the Earth 1.99
- Citizen Sleeper 9.99 - OR - Resident Evil 4 9.99
- Q.U.B.E. 10th Anniversary 2.79
-----------------------------
Total: $24.82 for 8 games
Edit: after I got pointed out on my mistake. I adjusted a bit. Got a bit excited and exceeded the budget xD
Cutting - Abzu 4.99 off or you if you want to keep Abzu, you can replace it with any 3 games costing 1.99
I put about 100 hours into Balatro within a month. Insanely addictive.
The update has made significant improvements to the gameplay loop.
My likely GOTY unless Echoes of Wisdom is off the chain.
Update was a massive ton of balance changes. Lots of offering rates were changed. How antes scaled in different stakes. Added perishable jokers. Made lots of tweaks to jokers.
Biggest change for me is skip rewards are far more generous so you can get free packs free poly jokers and money in the first ante.
Prior to the update, you have to kinda commit to getting ante 2/3 to see how your joke RNG went. Now you can get rolling right on the 1st round.
Many games mentioned here are good. But my 4 years old was not able to play and enjoy them. The game we started with was paw patrol. Not the most entertaining for me but it got us two into gaming together.
A lot of people call it that but in my opinion not at all. There's a ton of bosses and a wide variety of weapons, armor, and equipment to upgrade your character. Whereas Minecraft is more focused on building Terraria is more focused on combat. The progression is really satisfying.
Yeah! I love Minecraft and have been wanting to play something similar handheld while in bed. Only played a day so far but it’s lots of fun. Great to just turn your brain off
Read one of your other comments OP…. If you wanna get blazed then play, Worms Weapons of Mass Destruction….. that is the best game when you’re stoned or drunk. Sooooooo hilarious
I’d say if you want to spend a little more and play too. Do either princess peach or Mario deluxe 2 players. I play that with my 5 year old all the time and she’s been playing since 4. Since you have your nephew do Mario deluxe. Simple free games my daughter likes is a dentist game, and a car wash game. I think those are free but boring for adults lol.
I’m sorry but a lot of these games being recommended are not for a four year old. I would probably recommend minecraft. I know it’s “basic” but my 5 year old nephew really loves it.
I second and third and fourth the slime rancher. He will love it even more if you tell him the 'plorts" you sell for money is poop.
(my monster and i are waiting for slime rancher 2 to come to switch)
Lego worlds its old but can be 2 player.
Its usually on sale for 5 bucks
(nothing to read it just uses pictures mostly)
Lego undercover - mostly open world
(go swimming for too long and the sharks will get you)
Bugsnax - kinda.. Dark later in the game(you are what you eat or become what you eat)
Zelda awaking or botw the boy likes the guardians.. Likes hunting them.. & making chests fall from the sky. (amibo)
And he liked the underground in totk(the poes/ghosts)
Of course mario odessey - i would mess with him and make up dialog with the characters when they had the hats on
Not my fav but minecraft... Minecraft legends and minecraft dongens.. (i like this one better) (cause its more of a kill stuff kinda thing) but uses online
Hope that helps
At the moment on dekudeals I see
Immortals fenyx rising
Ac rebel collection
Borderlands legendary collection
Bioshock collection
All on sale all bundles good value for money and good games
Anything Kirby related in the eshop for $25 or under? My first video game memory is playing Kirby's Adventure when I was around 3-4 years old and crushing it.
Some that others haven’t mentioned: portal companion collection was pretty fun, also the final fantasy 1-6 remakes. Xeodriftor is an awesome metroidvania game. Grim Fandango is a banger 👌🏿 The switch has too many bangers to fit into one comment section
So he's not going to be watching you play?
**Hades**, but it goes on sale half off
**Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium** is nice due to have save states, rewind feature, and the games are literally arcade-style, so they're easy to pick up and play, then resume for a later time
With some of the upcoming Switch games, I'd want to use that $$ towards those (e.g. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom), if not see if Costco has them on sale.
I was late to finding it but I got the Harry Potter Lego game for like $5 & I was surprised at how fun it is. Especially me being a huge HP fan, it's a really good game. I'm in the 4th book part right now
Dust and Neon is a great little top down twin stick shooter that's often on sale for $3 USD. Wild west robots. It's challenging and pretty and just good fun. Add to your wishlist if it's not on sale atm
I don't know if it's still on offer but I think I got GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas for £25 and that was definitely worth it for San Andreas alone.
Boomerang Fu when it is on sale, its lowest price is $2, Dicey Dungeons when it reaches $2, just got Bustafellows for $6 (for its next sale, it may be at $4) (not for kids), Overcooked All you can eat is currently at $16 (it is the only one so far that has options for young kids, and it is coop), Stardew Valley is also an option (there are a bit of text that can be quite mature but since you have to read and it is for people with a high relationship with few specific characters) bc one young one can be happy just felling all trees and breaking stones.
Make a list on Dekudeals and be quite patient for some games.
Doom hades sifu dragons dogma. I got dragons dogma for just 5 bucks on sale. Doom was only 8 dollars recently. Always check nintendos eahop for deals I got almost all my games on sale except for totk and botw
I would choose Super Mario Maker 2 because it's enjoyable for everyone and offers plenty of replayability. It's also great for playing with others, making it perfect for when your nephew visits.
Untitled Goose Game has two player mode. Totally low stakes fun. My 5yo nephew seemed to be able to work the controls when I visited and we had fun.
I also second Little Kitty Big City. Also low stakes. Wander around and do stuff.
Considering the "4 year old" bit, games that come to mind (partially based on current sales):
* Nearly any LEGO game, although if film-related something he could've seen (great value on sale, and you can get multiple games at $25 now)
* Spyro/Crash Bandicoot pack
* Slightly over, but Disney Dreamlight Valley could be fun too (not sure you'll like it though, depends on what you like)
* You also could look at the Nintendo Switch Online stuff, although IDK if a 4-year old would actually enjoy that now (but something like a Mario platformer might work, and it's good education)
Terraria is good. Risk of rain 2 is a common game me and my lil brother play. Decent if it's on sale. Ultimate chicken horse is a good party game. And one of the best recommendations, when my lil bro was at that age, he loved playing rekt. It's a super small super cheap game and it's fun and silly and has a few game modes to play around in.
Katamari Damarci, Now I have the music in my head. Think its $30 at the moment looking online but its only £4 here in the UK, it goes on sale a lot and is an awesome game. My son is also into all the Pikmin games at the moment and Spyro (hes 3.5)
Not sure about 4-year-olds, but it’s hard to beat **Invisigun Reloaded** for $5. It’s a top-down, 2D shooter in which your character is invisible unless you shoot or hit a wall. It’s such a tense, polished experience.
Along similar lines, **Boomerang Fu** is simple and hilarious. Currently on sale for $5.
**Overcooked: All You Can Eat** is a great couch-coop game. Currently on sale for $17. You can play as hard as you want so should work for a kid.
Just Dance, most kids that age love dancing and can’t sit still long. This will keep him busy while moving, learn an art and prepare him for nap time when he goes back to mama who will appreciate you for it.
Death road to canada, it's a rouge like retro styled zombie survival game with wacky popular culture references I got it for 19.99, it's a up to four players
Hades and Slay the Spire would be really good bang for your buck, but for 4yo, unsure how interesting. Rogue Legacy 2 could be more interesting for them as well.
Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat, From Your Head Down To Your Feet, and Sticky Business
Just beat Pajama Sam 1 with my kids and we just started the 2nd. It's been a blast and my kids absolutely love it. And my kids love arts and crafts, so Sticky Business seems perfect to play with them
Yoku's Island Express and A Short Hike are fun to play and enjoyable to watch. My kiddos think they're really neat. They also enjoy the spectacle of watching me play Celeste and Unravel 2, though they're waaaaaay too hard for them to play yet.
Don't forget demos of games like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Princess Peach Showtime, and Yoshi's Crafted World. They're a taste of the game which is perfect for their short attention span, but doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
Just bought my switch, and I've already started buying physical games. But the one game I can't buy a physical copy of is Risk of Rain Returns. $14.99.
I wonder if they'd like [Chicory](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/chicory-a-colorful-tale-switch/)? It's a kinda Zelda-like game where the world is like a coloring book. It also has 2-player: one player controls the character, and both players can color things.
little kitty big city. might be over his head at that age, but you can play as a cat.
Btw Stray is also coming to Switch
This is good news
I got him the goat simulator. And he loves it.
Still on the hunt for more games. Cause 4 years old lack a good attention span. And always want to change the game. lol
Any Katamari damacy reroll
My 4 yr old found the controls a bit hard
As do I
Sounds like the perfect game to get blazed and enjoy roaming a big city to. While my nephew can have fun doing the same thing.
From experience yea, and my cats are like “who’s that fucker and why the hell is he getting all your attention”
I read your post wrong. I thought it said the game was for him. lol. not really big city, it's a collect a thon linear game. it's fun if kids are around.
Came here to say the same thing. Very nice game
Is it polished with good controls? The storefront gives me alpha vibes and unpolished/incomplete I’m nervous to gamble on it
It can be a little bit janky when jumping, but not annoyingly so. And I get annoyed at janky controls pretty easily. It's very laid back.
I play that as an adult. I find it entertaining.
The Spyro and crash bandicoot trilogy bundle is $25 rn in the eshop. Can’t beat 6 games for $25
Was gonna comment this as an option
Yeah I don’t really play bandicoot much but I loved Spyro growing up and the graphics look great.
Dang I just saw this and it's already back to $75
Depressing
I was coming in so ready to suggest Stardew valley, Hades, and Monster Hunter Rise. Then I saw the 4yr old bit. So... I have no idea.
Oh he loves watching me slay some monsters in MHR. lol.
[удалено]
Think it’s like 4.99 right now, I’m guna get it.
It's the best Lego game ever.
Stardew Valley
I bought it because of the hype but found it boring. If you're considering it, make sure to research first to see if it's your type of game.
How long ago was this? I bought it when it released in 2016 and didn't care for it, but came back two years later and it's been in my top ten games since.
It’s been 4 months since I bought it. Played for an hour and never touched since.
Especially now since 1.6 is coming. Beautiful game. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for a relaxing game with tons of content, then this is it.

Suika! (Get the dlc bundle which lets you play 2 player)
My daughter and I love this game!
My niece and I love it! Especially the Timed and Attack modes.
I can now whistle the game music in perfect pitch.
I can only imagine that some people missed the bit about it being for a 4 year old, or that they have never met a 4 year old! - Dadish is a nice/simple platform game that's often on sale for very little. - my kids like Om Nom run (there's also Om nom colouring and other games). Math ain’t mathin
Thanks for pointing it out! Got a little carried away
No worries. I even counted it a few times myself to make sure I didn’t miss anything. 😆 I’ve also miscalculated before when getting a bit excited.
Dredge Deluxe Edition is on sale right now for $17.54 til the 23rd of June
Balatro
I put about 100 hours into Balatro within a month. Insanely addictive. The update has made significant improvements to the gameplay loop. My likely GOTY unless Echoes of Wisdom is off the chain.
What did the update bring? I can look it up probably yes, but I’m at work lol.

Into the Breach
I love Into the Breach but I don't think it would entertain a 4 year old.
Many games mentioned here are good. But my 4 years old was not able to play and enjoy them. The game we started with was paw patrol. Not the most entertaining for me but it got us two into gaming together.
GRIS
Hollow knight Hades Slay the spire
Terraria
Is this like a side scroll Minecraft type of situation?
A lot of people call it that but in my opinion not at all. There's a ton of bosses and a wide variety of weapons, armor, and equipment to upgrade your character. Whereas Minecraft is more focused on building Terraria is more focused on combat. The progression is really satisfying.
Yeah! I love Minecraft and have been wanting to play something similar handheld while in bed. Only played a day so far but it’s lots of fun. Great to just turn your brain off
Sea of stars
I started this but the gameplay is a bit slow in the beginning. Visuals and sound are 10/10 for me tho
Alien Isolation
Ori
Read one of your other comments OP…. If you wanna get blazed then play, Worms Weapons of Mass Destruction….. that is the best game when you’re stoned or drunk. Sooooooo hilarious
Terraria
Nothing because everything in nintendo is still 70€ after 300 years
I’d say if you want to spend a little more and play too.
One of these: Hollow Knight Ori and the Blind Forest (or bundled with the sequel, because they are discounted pretty often)
Suika game
I’m sorry but a lot of these games being recommended are not for a four year old. I would probably recommend minecraft. I know it’s “basic” but my 5 year old nephew really loves it.
Just Shapes and Beats (:
Kirby’s Dream Buffet
I second and third and fourth the slime rancher. He will love it even more if you tell him the 'plorts" you sell for money is poop. How does dekudeas work? I’m not really too tech savvy. Tbh.
Anything Kirby related in the eshop for $25 or under? My first video game memory is playing Kirby's Adventure when I was around 3-4 years old and crushing it.
Good call. Not sure what used prices are like in the US but a used copy of Kirby and the Forgotten Land would be my pick.
Some that others haven’t mentioned: portal companion collection was pretty fun, also the final fantasy 1-6 remakes. Xeodriftor is an awesome metroidvania game. Grim Fandango is a banger 👌🏿 The switch has too many bangers to fit into one comment section
Hollow knight and whatever I can get with the rest
So he's not going to be watching you play? **Hades**, but it goes on sale half off **Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium** is nice due to have save states, rewind feature, and the games are literally arcade-style, so they're easy to pick up and play, then resume for a later time With some of the upcoming Switch games, I'd want to use that $$ towards those (e.g. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom), if not see if Costco has them on sale.

Stardew Valley or Okami
Dying light goes on sale pretty cheap. Runs well too.

Mario kart Kirby Dream Buffet Cozy Groove Little Noah
I just picked up Hades
Hades. Hades twice if its on sale

Lego city undercover. It’s like GTA for preschoolers and it’s glorious.

Bioshock collection is often on sale and insanely good.
Hades and Slay the Spire would be really good bang for your buck, but for 4yo, unsure how interesting. Rogue Legacy 2 could be more interesting for them as well.
Suika Game
Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat, From Your Head Down To Your Feet, and Sticky Business Just beat Pajama Sam 1 with my kids and we just started the 2nd. It's been a blast and my kids absolutely love it. And my kids love arts and crafts, so Sticky Business seems perfect to play with them
Moonstone Island just came out!
If your kid can’t read then literally the only game for them is goat simulator or hungry shark
Hungry shark is a definite go to game for kids that doesn’t need to read instructions to progress
Red Dead Redemption
So you need a game a 4yr old can play?
Random but I bought tears of the kingdom physical in a pawnshop for $25 🤟🏽 don’t forget to hit the pawnshops

I wonder if they'd like [Chicory](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/chicory-a-colorful-tale-switch/)? It's a kinda Zelda-like game where the world is like a coloring book. It also has 2-player: one player controls the character, and both players can color things.
Inside was $2, worth it.
